There is great potential for this property to be something special. However it needs to be updated. The motel property is confusing because the sign says Thunderbird Motel. It is now called Sacred Canyon Lodge, but the sign on property has not changed. The rooms are rustic, but very outdated. New bedspreads and new TVs could make a big difference.... More

This is the only hotel located in Canyon De Chelley. Though under the same management of the View Hotel Monument Valley (recently taken over), this place seriously needs an upgrade and renovation. Earlier it was known as The Thunderbird Lodge. The rooms are small and are a tight fit with 2 queen beds and a tiny bathroom. The room also... More

Canyon de Chelly is something of an undiscovered gem, if you enjoy outdoor destinations. The hotel is the only one in the park and, at the time, was run by memers of the Native American tribe there. Service was good, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. A little tight if you get a rollaway. The restaurant food was nothing... More

Sacred Canyon Lodge is a Motel. Nice shower, a desk, TV was not HD, WiFi and the heating air conditioner unit could be a little loud. We went in January and had the place to ourselves. There were bars on the windows in the front section of the Lodge, but not were we stayed in the back. Don't know why.... More

This is a funky place with a lot of atmosphere, fantastic location and even its own trading Post. I wouldn't stay anywhere else visiting Canyon de Chelly. But not all rooms are created equal - ask for a renovated room.

Didn't stay here, nor did we try the cafeteria (looked unappealing) but the trading post is great! We were impressed by the high quality of the jewelry at the Trading Post, the wide variety of items, and the friendly service and reasonable prices for quality silver jewelry, made by local Navajo artisans.

If you are looking for an out of the way place that is friendly, comfortable, but rustic - this would be it. It is well maintained, clean and nice, but not a 5 star lodge. This is lodge travel like the 50's - but still wonderful. The cafeteria serves great food. Youre in the park, great for a night hike,... More

The location is the best part about it. Cafeteria and rooms need to be brought into the 21st century We thought because they are linked to The View in Monument Valley they would be of the same quality, we should have read the reviews on Tripadvisor before.

We visited Chinle in August, 2015 and stayed at the Sacred Canyon Lodge. The rates were higher than we expected them to be, but not prohibitive. The entire complex seemed a bit rundown, but our room was very clean. The front desk clerks were satisfactory, but not overly friendly. The attached restaurant is a cafeteria style establishment, and the food... More

We were very disappointed in our stay here and would not stay here again. The lodge was rather deserted but the woman ad the front desk who barely greeted us could still not find our reservation at first. There is no coffee maker, mini frig or hair dryer in the room. Coffee is available is the reception area. There is... More
