The Sacred Canyon Lodge is as close as you can get to Canyon de Chelly, the Navajo Tribe's sacred canyon. This lodge reminds me of the hotels built by the railroads at the National Parks. It is classy, clean, and beautifully decorated. The rates are reasonable, the grounds invite strolling, and the rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. The gift... More

The first room they assigned me to looked like an old storage building. It was halfway underground, and very dark and dingy. After I requested another room, they gave me one in the old section. It was better than the first one, but not desirable by any means. I was very disappointed.

We loved everything about this place...the adobe building style, its history within Canyon de Chelly, its location off the main drag in Chinle, and especially that it is now managed by a Navajo company. Our room was spacious, with a high ceiling and sitting area, and furniture that matched the building style. Coffee and tea are provided in the office... More

This was my 3rd stay at this Lodge -- which used to be called "Thunderbird Lodge". It is NOT fancy, but it is not meant to be nor does it set out to be. It is comfortable, perfectly located and clean enough. You stay here for the experience and location. You can't beat this place for sheer tranquility. If you... More

spent 4 nights here..quiet setting outside of the dust and trash laden Chinle. All constructed in classic "pueblo" style; many rooms around the cottonwood parklike center; a few nice places to relax outside in the warm mountain sun. Good food in the cafe. we had the small suite and liked the comfort a lot. Holiday Inn is ok but not... More

We were not off to a good start when we arrived in Chinle to explore Canyon De Chelly as we were accosted in the supermarket car park and entrance by people following us and asking for money. The staff on checkin and check out at the lodge were surly as were the restaurant staff. The food on offer was basic... More

Reminded me of motels my family frequented along old route 66 in the late 50s and 60s. Room was large, with two double beds, table and two chairs, and an old-fashioned TV cabinet, (complete with quite adequate old-fashioned TV). Room was quiet, bathroom was "tired", but clean. Believe I had one of those "memory foam" mattresses, (not a fan, too... More

You have to know upfront that when you visit the incredible Canyon de Chelly you are not going there for food or lodging. Your choices are three in both categories, not counting on the food side Burger King and the ever-popular Church's Chicken. Sacred Canyon Lodge (formerly Thunderbird) touts itself as the only lodging inside the park, but it makes... More

Canyon de Chelly is an awesome experience. Not to be missed if you are anywhere near NE Arizona. Our guide actually grew up in the canyon and his family is still farming there. Enjoyed the authentic Navajo food in the cafeteria.

This lodge was the right place to stay when visiting Canyon De Chelly. The location was perfect to hook up with guides. The rooms are plain but comfortable and clean. The showers had good pressure with plenty of hot water, a nice feature after hiking or riding motorcycles all day. After checking around two other hotels, Sacred Canyon Lodge was... More
