This was my 5th and certainly not my last camping experience at Spider Rock Campground. The Hogan is always a special way to camp out. Howard is just awesome as the camp host. This is basic camping at its finest. I highly recommend the jeep tour with Howard as your guide. I see this added amenity becoming very popular, advanced... More

A wonderful camping experience from the first contact to the end. We were able to stay in a hogan that was awesome. If you're looking for a true camping experience, Spider Rock is the place to go. While you're there, be sure to take the Speaking Rock Jeep Tour into Canyon De Chelly. This jeep tour will get you up... More

We decided to stay here in our motor home after seeing the Cottonwood campground near the visitor center. Good stuff: Large campsites, remote, low noise, considerate neighbors, BEYOND AWESOME NIGHT SKIES!! This campground is BASIC, if you're car camping it's as primitive as it gets. Almost backpacking. The toilets are iffy and the shower is rustic, but frankly, I'd rather... More

My husband and I spent two nights at this campground. The owner, Howard, was a wonderful host and tour guide through Canyon de Chelly. There are no hook-ups at this campground, but that's what holding tanks are for:) We utilized our generator during daytime hours. The night sky is AMAZING as there is no light pollution and it's incredibly quiet... More

We had a rented 31 foot motor home and this would not ordinarily be the place to take such a vehicle--no electric, no water, and no sewer hook ups. Generator shouldn't be run at night. But, we wanted to be near Canyon de Chelly, and we wanted to see the big sky at night, and we wanted to stay in... More

Staying at Spider Rock campground in the large Hogan was an awesome experience. Our kids (9 and 6) loved the Hogan and running wild around the campground. I expected the Hogan to be a replication of the traditional but it was the real deal. This was a beautiful structure, well built by Howard's grandfather maybe 100 years ago. You could... More

You will either love this campground or hate it. This campground is for the adventurer. We were a group of 5 hikers that do a LOT of outdoor activities, who enjoy taking in breathtaking scenery, but don't mind getting a little dirty to do it. If you like clean, comfortable beds and require a shower 1-2 times a day, you... More

We stayed here for two nights in July, camping in our travel trailer. It is very peaceful. The surrounding desert is beautiful and the night sky is incredible. Howard is a gracious host. It is primitive camping, with pit toilets and no showers, so if you need all the amenities of home it might not be for you. From the... More

I wanted to like this campground. You drive around and you can pick whatever one you want. It's a dry and basic campground, in other words, what car camping should be like. But, alas, the bathrooms. I get primitive campgrounds, but what I don't get are the ricketty plywood structures around the toilets, which are pit toilets btw. I was... More

Yes it is rustic, so if you want 'glam' camping this might not be for you. The campground was clean, the bathrooms cleaner than some we found in our National Parks.. We picked our own site even tho Howard had assigned us one, which was no problem. We had a tent shower and were able to fill the shower bags... More
