It's the only real campground at Canyon de Chelly. The official one (Cottonwood) is just outside the actual park and is near a stream on a field, which means zillions of mosquitoes. It's really pretty disappointing that there is no campground, especially a simple primitive one, on the rim of the canyon. Instead there are lots of hotels outside the... More

Very satisfied with this campground. Was looking for a place away from town and this was perfect. Campsite adequate. The hogans look good. And the owner, Howard, was great. It rained hard the first night, and Howard came to see if I wanted to stay in a hogan that was open, in case the rain was too much. He also... More

Ignore those 1 and 2 star reviews, if you aren't a prude wussie sitting on their high horse expexting the taj mahal, the toilets aren't THAT bad (ever hear of making a tp next on the rim?). Its far from town, there is no running water, so don't get your hopes up and deal with it. We stayed in the... More

Great rustic location, be sure to take Howard's Speaking Rock tour of Canyon de Shelly. Howard gives you such personal voice of the Navaho people and the beauty of the Canyon is beyond words. Be sure to venture out of the campground and walk the 3 mile trail to see the view of Howard's canyon. Also Monument Valley is awesome... More

We stayed in the medium hogan and took very worthwhile jeep tour of the Canyon with our host Howard. I had originally booked the small hogan for my husband and I but it was a little too claustrophobic for me so Howard graciously moved us to the medium one. There is a little potbelly stove inside which you will need... More

Left the hustle and bustle of our connected world and completely disconnected: no electricity or running water (solar showers) no phones (there is internet near the hosts place but I opted to completely disconnect). We stayed in medium hogan- room enough for two tall people and also the large hogan- for two had plenty of room to walk around in... More

This was my 5th and certainly not my last camping experience at Spider Rock Campground. The Hogan is always a special way to camp out. Howard is just awesome as the camp host. This is basic camping at its finest. I highly recommend the jeep tour with Howard as your guide. I see this added amenity becoming very popular, advanced... More

A wonderful camping experience from the first contact to the end. We were able to stay in a hogan that was awesome. If you're looking for a true camping experience, Spider Rock is the place to go. While you're there, be sure to take the Speaking Rock Jeep Tour into Canyon De Chelly. This jeep tour will get you up... More

We decided to stay here in our motor home after seeing the Cottonwood campground near the visitor center. Good stuff: Large campsites, remote, low noise, considerate neighbors, BEYOND AWESOME NIGHT SKIES!! This campground is BASIC, if you're car camping it's as primitive as it gets. Almost backpacking. The toilets are iffy and the shower is rustic, but frankly, I'd rather... More

My husband and I spent two nights at this campground. The owner, Howard, was a wonderful host and tour guide through Canyon de Chelly. There are no hook-ups at this campground, but that's what holding tanks are for:) We utilized our generator during daytime hours. The night sky is AMAZING as there is no light pollution and it's incredibly quiet... More
