We had a rented 31 foot motor home and this would not ordinarily be the place to take such a vehicle--no electric, no water, and no sewer hook ups. Generator shouldn't be run at night. But, we wanted to be near Canyon de Chelly, and we wanted to see the big sky at night, and we wanted to stay in... More

Staying at Spider Rock campground in the large Hogan was an awesome experience. Our kids (9 and 6) loved the Hogan and running wild around the campground. I expected the Hogan to be a replication of the traditional but it was the real deal. This was a beautiful structure, well built by Howard's grandfather maybe 100 years ago. You could... More

You will either love this campground or hate it. This campground is for the adventurer. We were a group of 5 hikers that do a LOT of outdoor activities, who enjoy taking in breathtaking scenery, but don't mind getting a little dirty to do it. If you like clean, comfortable beds and require a shower 1-2 times a day, you... More

We stayed here for two nights in July, camping in our travel trailer. It is very peaceful. The surrounding desert is beautiful and the night sky is incredible. Howard is a gracious host. It is primitive camping, with pit toilets and no showers, so if you need all the amenities of home it might not be for you. From the... More

I wanted to like this campground. You drive around and you can pick whatever one you want. It's a dry and basic campground, in other words, what car camping should be like. But, alas, the bathrooms. I get primitive campgrounds, but what I don't get are the ricketty plywood structures around the toilets, which are pit toilets btw. I was... More

Yes it is rustic, so if you want 'glam' camping this might not be for you. The campground was clean, the bathrooms cleaner than some we found in our National Parks.. We picked our own site even tho Howard had assigned us one, which was no problem. We had a tent shower and were able to fill the shower bags... More

We camped there on May 2nd and 3rd for two nights with our truck camper and really loved it. While there are many mixed reviews of this campground we found it to be just what we were looking for. We knew that the campground would be primitive and rustic but that is what true camping is all about. We enjoyed... More

We are experienced tent campers and are used to roughing it. But we were very disappointed by the facilities at Spider Rock Campground. Although it was quiet as advertised, when we were arrived we were told by Howard that there were no showers available. He assigned us a campsite that was fine - but the toilet facilities were disgusting. Very... More

While there are mixed reviews for the campsite, I couldn't turn down an opportunity to sleep in a hogan. I didn't book ahead and managed to get the last hogan available. The manager was friendly and efficient - he even offered to help light the fire in my wood stove. The hogan is rustic, which means it's a dirt floor... More

We stayed in a tent on loop D in April. The tent sites on either side of ours were vacant, so we had a quiet and secluded site amid junipers and pines--really lovely. As a tent camper, I hardly saw and RVs. A couple of other reviewers complained about the outhouses so I was not sure what to expect, but... More
