I was okay, a little worn, but clean. Close to the Canyon Entrance. Loved the mornings, with coffee, under the big tree in front of the gift shop. more

Staff at cafeteria and those outside were nice and everyone we encountered we said 'hello' to responded in kind. Food at the cafeteria was just that- from a cafeteria. Both my wife (teacher) and niece (high school) said it reminded them of food at school. But it was convenient to rooms in morning for coffee and in evening to take... more

OK, so the staff is a little aloof -- may be a defense against too many demanding tourists -- but the rooms are large and clean, the beds are comfy and the internet connection is fast. The site itself is like a park, with a nice blend of adobe and traditional structures. We did not try the cafeteria, but went... more

This was a very big room, food was pretty good in the dining room. There was not many options in town for eating. The day we visited was cloudy and rainy so we didnt get to experience the Canyon but we will be back and would book a trip into the Canyon. My aunt ended up leaving her jacket and... more

The Thunderbird turned out to be a wonderful gem of a place to stay. The room (Adobe, 2 queen beds) was clean, comfortable, quiet, and had a real Southwestern feel. The photos on the web site are 100% accurate. The area is nice for walks on the road, by farms. And although we didn't get to it, there is a coffee... more

The Thunderbird Lodge is a charming old lodge inside of Canyon de Chelly National Park. The rooms are rustic and no blow dryers in the room but they had internet! The beds were either comfortable because they were hard or because we were dog tired. The staff was less than friendly and seemed to act as if we were troubling... more

There is only one reason to go to Chinle, to visit Canyon de Chelly , a marvelous experience. The lodging options are very limited, and dining even more so. After staying at the Thunderbird Lodge, I'd say try the Best Western or Holiday Inn. The TL reminded me of a cheap 1960's motel; thin towels, sheets that need replacement, lumpy... more

We researched quite a lot before deciding to stay at the Thunderbird Lodge, so we did not have unrealistic expectations. Yet we were disappointed in our stay. We had requested a particular location, which they did not honor. The room they placed us in was clean enough, but quite run-down. However, the beds were comfortable, and we would have enjoyed... more

This is an extremely basic motel. Despite descriptions we'd seen describing it as historic, and beautiful, we'd say "old" and "shabby". While it is in the boundaries of Canyon de Chelly, you don't gain much by being in the park versus right down the road. The most disappointing aspect was the cafeteria style restaurant. Surly service for dinner when we... more

Arriving after dark, we had a bit of a problem finding the hotel, but once there were quite pleased. The reception was warm and helpful, with coffee available. Our room was small but clean with comfortable beds. A spring storm was blowing and in the morning snow flurries were in the air. We had a good breakfast in the cafeteria... more
