Stay away from this hotel! My husband recently stayed there for two nights during Comic Con 2014. He was moved 3 times within the 2 days. Room 1: No working A/C and room was super hot with no opening windows. He was moved at 1:00am and then room #2 had roaches! Room #3 had roaches AND a dirty bathroom. Manager... More

As a longtime "Zonie," I've visited Pacific Beach almost every August for 25+ years. Pacific Shores is simply the best value for the buck. Quiet, helpful staff, wonderful location. This August will be at least 4 straight years in a row. Just wish I'd reserved early enough to get Saturday night....

We had a nice room with a partial view of the ocean. A patio set to sit at in front of the room was nice so we could listen to the waves in the morning and before bed each night. Coffee was available for free all day in the office. The staff was friendly and attentive. The room was clean... More

Let's take an excellent location with a newly renovated room a few hundred yards from the Pacific and make it average. Here's how: do not replace the old A/C unit which is not just a noise-maker but a wall shaker! Then add a host of loud, perhaps intoxicated, patrons and a mgt. staff that cares little about noise. Finally, mix... More

I just got back from my stay there. The room was clean and roomy. It's a two minute walk to the beach and close to lots of restaurants that are within walking distance. The pool is well maintained and crystal clear. I will definitely go back. This motel was recommended by a coworker and I would recommend it. Hopefully this... More

The property has been around since 1947, and there are still guests that come back from the beginning, or their relatives who have continued their tradition! I originally placed coffee makers in the rooms to accommodate those guests as they kept requesting coffee makers for the coffee they would bring with them. I think I will improve this aspect of... ROOM: My family and I stayed here in late september 2014 and we were fortunate enough to get one of the newly renovated rooms on the 2nd floor with the white plantation shutters and the wood/ laminate flooring at the entryway. The decor was beachy and light, very welcoming and spacious for our family. We arrived in the evening but... More

I tried to convince the owners of a Jacuzzi when we redid our pool four years ago. That would have been a nice touch, and maybe something we will do sometime. I just had a meeting with the ownership this past week, and I was informed that we will be renovating the remainder of the rooms this winter. I really... More

If you're looking for a budget-friendly place just steps from the beach, this place is the way to go. However, it is not the most comfortable room I've ever stayed in. We were there during an unusually hot week in May, so after hoping to chill out for a bit in an air-conditioned room, we were disappointed to find out... More

We are definitely sorry about the a/c. It seems that about every month, one goes out. The salt air really affects the lifespan of our compressors. I hope we were able to do something for you to help you want to stay with us again. We just ordered all new tables and chairs for every location at the property, so... More

The hotel is only a short walk to the beach. Free parking in this crowded area is a terrific plus. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is meager and they should not charge for wifi. Lots of places to eat nearby.

I completely agree about the charge for WiFi, and that will be going away very soon. Thank you for your review!!! More

Me and my husband spent there 2 nights. Rooms look old and need renovation, furniture are outdated. Also the liquid they use to clean the room is so smelly. We had to open doors wide for hours to breath. Unfortunately, you cannot get rid of this smell totally. WiFi is not for free ($10 a day). At least parking is... More

Sorry you didn't like us. Yes, the location is fantastic! But, the new rooms are just that, very nice, and modern. We are scheduled to renovate some more rooms this winter. This should make all of the rooms new then. I hope you will stay with us again. More

I compared pricing for many hotels in the Pacific Beach area and you can tell the prices reflect the proximity to the ocean. I really wanted to stay along the beach for my first night in San Diego. We were just steps away from the sandy shores, however it was much farther to get all the way down to Mission... More

Thank you for staying with us! If you decide to stay with us again, the rooms with two queen beds are much larger than our singles. I think you find the experience to be much more pleasurable. Thank you for your comments! More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Pacific Shores Inn is a quaint inn located at the north end of Pacific Beach. Many of the rooms offer some views of the ocean, and restaurants and shops are just a couple of blocks away. The boardwalk is a 2.5 mile stretch that will take you from the north end of Pacific Beach all the way to the south end of Mission Beach. As you stroll down the boardwalk, you will find ocean front shops and restaurants as well as the famous Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Bike, and surfboard rentals are located within two blocks so there is no reason to pack those items when visiting us. And, every room has a microwave oven, refrigerator, and a coffee maker for your convenience. Some rooms also have full kitchens for those who require that. Parking, and a continental breakfast which includes juice, coffee, and danish are always free. ... more   less
