Very tired from traveling for three days, we arrived to find that our room was upgraded to a suite at no extra charge! David, Len and the rest of the staff practically treated us like family during our three-day stay. We are relocating from the Pacific Northwest and these people gave us an amazing first impression to San Diego. We... more

We choose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. Staff were very helpful and friendly, the rooms very clean with comfortable beds. There was a good selection to choose from at breakfast, especially the waffles. The only thing we missed was a fridge and safe in the room, although they do offer safe deposit box at reception. more

An oasis.

The Lamplighter is an oasis near the San Diego State. My wife and I stopped in here for a night and found chocolates on the pillow - what a tradition long gone. more

After researching the many over priced hotels in San Diego my partner and I decided to give this spot a try. The reviews spoke highly of the staff and the cleanliness of the property and boy were they right! We truly enjoyed our stay there. The room was absolutely spotless and the staff was happy to accomodate our needs. Some... more

We asked for a quiet room and were allocated a room on the second floor [US term] right at the end of the site, next to the recreation field behind, and this was ideal for us. This is a good value motel on a long narrow site on two levels with enough car parking space. We felt quite safe walking... more

I chose the Lamplighter based on proximity to business I had in the area and the Tripadvisor comments. I had limited expectations based on the price and ended up being pleasantly surprised. Had a standard room and it was absolutely spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows soft. There was a comfortable chair to sit in with an... more

Stayed here during a 2 month roadtrip around USA & Canada with my girlfriend. Saw this motel on Tripadvisor & gave it a go as it looked good value. The motel itself is just above average i would say, nothing extra special. The fact it is No.6 on Tripadvisor says more about the rest of the places available to stay... more

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review about your recent stay at our hotel. We appreciate hearing from all of our guests. TripAdvisor measures only one thing, guest satisfaction. It is not a measure of luxury or location. On TripAdvisor, an economy hotel can score very well and a luxury hotel can score poorly. It is clearly displayed on...

I travel to San Diego several times a year on business and have stayed at many hotels to qualify my contribution . And, by far the Best Western Lamplighter Inn was the nicest and most comfortable hotel meeting travel expence limit of less that $100/night. The office manager Len went of his way to make sure that I was dialed-in... more

I wanted to take my wife and 2 young boys to the San Diego zoo, and was floored by the hotel prices. A historic place like Hotel del Coronado might be worth $250+, but I couldn't understand why so many regular places were $180 and more? We just needed a safe/clean/pleasant place to rest our heads for a night, and... more
