Was extremely hesitant in booking our vacation at the Lafayette Hotel after reading some of the reviews. It's no Hyatt, that's a given. But our stay was wonderful! We had a pool side suite named the Fred McMurry Suite, all the rooms are named after "Old School" celebrities. The Hotel has so much history and charm. And it's a bargain.... more

I dont even know where to begin! From the main street, the hotel looks lovely, and kind of cool with a taste of the south. Large pillars, brick building, and huge circular driveway. I over shot the driveway and made a right onto the street that parallels the hotel and was shocked. Its a total dive hotel! I had booked... more

As we drove up to the hotel we could not believe it was the same place we saw on the hotel website. We checked in and were told to pull around to the back, this is when we discovered it is not a hotel, but a motel. From the outside back we could see paint peeling and crooked windows. We... more

My fax says it all. And the heated pool wasn't heated. Ventana Hotels Fax [--] E mail [--] Last Sat nite (Apr 25), we stayed at the Lafayette in San Diego. When I made reservations, I asked for a quiet room. I was originally assigned a 1st floor room right on the corner of 2 busy streets. The only other... more

Arrived at the hotel reception while the receptionist (Marianna) was arguing with another dissatisfied couple staying there. I checked in to my room while my cab waited outside. The security guard(Howard Abdul Kabir) saw me coming out of my room before i ran back to my cab to an event. I returned to the hotel at 1am and could not... more

As a local resident I've wanted to stay here for some time. It has a great pool area that attracts a great local crowd. The plusses stop there. I requested one of the poolside lanai rooms thinking it would be a step-up from the main building. Wrong. The inside had bad motel written all over it. Both queensized mattresses were... more

We were slightly worried due to the reviews, but had a great time. The hotel is older, but the inside is modernly decorated. Our room was nice, had a fridge and a microwave. The pool area was very nice and the staff was wonderful. The hotel is centraly located and has ample parking. The only thing was the walls are... more

I have seen some of the reviews, I thought I would add mine. It was a gorgeous, spacious room. No bed bugs, no roaches. The steakhouse was good. Everything we came in contact with was just right, and for the price, it was unbelievable. Ask for the Carmen Miranda room. more
