Stayed at The Crowne Plaza for three nights while touring San Diego. While it is an older property, the rooms have been recently updated and are very clean and comfortable. The location is terrific for getting around and seeing the sights. We asked for a room away from the highway and were given one that overlooked a golf course. We... more

I see now why you have to pay up front for this hotel. It is simply not up to the Crown Plaza standards. It is an older property, it is right next to the freeway and with the old windows and single pane sliding doors (ours was off the track) you can hear the cars all night long. The trucks... more

My wife and I stayed here twice during a recent visit to San Diego. We found the hotel very nice and comfortable. It was centrally located in a clean safe area (hotel strip) near the highway junctions. Its not a new hotel but it has been looked after and is in good condition as well as has had some modern... more

The hotel was decent; the room was in fairly good condition, altho the property/ambiance felt a bit old and could use some upgrades. Had no problems with the reception or cleaning staff as both seemed efficient. However, during my stay i had gotten quite a few red, itchy bumps on my arm. On the morning of my checkout, i noticed... more

My husband and I stayed at The Crowne Plaza in June 2008. We arrived early-around 12-and our room was ready around 12:30-Wonderful! Check in was a breeze and very friendly. Room had everything you need and the bed was a king leisure bed-extremely comfortable and our room was very quiet-faced the golf course. Everyone was very friendly. Food in the... more

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a work related conference & found the hotel a nice place to stay for business. It is close to the airport (As someone else stated, lots of airline staff stay here.) and easy access to highways, downtown San Diego, Old Town, and Torrey Pines. The US Open was being held the week we... more

My wife and two daughters who are 5 and 7 years old stayed for a week at the Crowne Plaza and had an exceptional stay. Clean room, very friendly staff and great pool made for a very enjoyable time. We would go back again without hesitation. more

I have been staying at this hotel (since 1997) before it was a Red Lion. It was a Best Western. Then they remodeled and it became Red lion. Now it's a Crowne Plaza. I have never had a bad experience. They sometimes pipe in wonderful Hawaiian type music into the atrium located between two buildings. There are two large Coi... more

Well if you are thinking of booking this hotel do so through Hotwire - it comes up as a 3.5* - that is the clue. I paid $110 (inclusive) per night and that was a real steal. They get you back by charging $12 for car parking and $10 for the internet but its worth it. The hotel itself is... more

I traveled with my partner and his family to San Diego back in May 2007 (we actually flew into Los Angeles and made the long drive to save some money on airfare) and stayed at the Crown Plaza (formerly Red Lion Hanalei Hotel). Although we had a bit of trouble with our room reservations at first (my sister-in-law didn’t get... more
