This place is ridiculous. On many web sites they show you photos taken from strategic angles to accent the positive. At the GDM, no photo can do it justice. Everything gleams with solid elegance. The furniture is museum quality, the amenities are just THERE, in reach, just what you need when you need it. The people are so nice you... More

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend and it was absolutely wonderful. The rooms are large and beautifully appointed, the spa was excellent and the grounds are very well kept. We only had breakfast at the hotel, but the food was just fine. Take advantage of the beautiful grounds and the hiking trails.

We had a great stay at the Grand Del Mar earlier this month. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, the bathrooms are amazing but what really stands out is the service. They couldn't do enough for us! From the room service guy who asked if he could help us with any plans, the room service guy!, to the valets who... More

We shared a weekend at this hotel with out of town friends in the "off-season". I rank this resort in my top 3 in the world - equal to Mauna Lani Bay Resort and Inn at Spanish Bay. The scenery is better at the other two resorts because of their ocean-front setting, but this is an inland resort in the... More

We stayed here in early August. We were on a trip with no kids, and we enjoyed some meals at the hotel. Our room was near the adult pool and one day I managed to lay by the pool and read an entire book, which is unheard of for me, very relaxed! Had a nice massage and a great jacuzzi... More

I stayed with my family (who frequents the hotel) in one of (if not the) best rooms in the hotel. The top floor presidential suite offered every amenity - including those nobody needs. With two spacious rooms with absolutely enormous bathrooms (three of them,) and every detail down to a science one can not help but feel pampered by their... More

Great service...very accomodating. We were here in mid September, it wasn't crowded but there is plenty of property if it were. The three walking paths offer light, medium or strenuous workouts. If walking is not your style, there is a fabulous gym. The rooms are luxurious with grand bathrooms and inviting beds.

Outstanding service - staff is very professional and caters to guests needs. Very personable. Facility grounds are beautiful. Rooms large and comfortable. Food is fantastic. Golf course is also outstanding.

This hotel sets the bar for all hotels. Luxurious rooms, excellent service and the food at the hotel restsurant was delicious (something that is unusual for a hotel restaurant). This property is pricey but worth every penny!!

We are well traveled and this is one of our favorite places to stay. It was our 2nd stay with our girls (5 and 12). We were a bit lazy and ate most of our meals at the hotel. Pool food is qood quality and inexpensive for the kids ($6). Drinks are resort pricey, as expected. Ate at Amaya a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Serenely nestled amidst San Diego's Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and a mere five miles from the Pacific coastline, The Grand Del Mar seamlessly combines the old-world charm of a Mediterranean estate with the modern luxury of an elegant resort. The result: California's premier triple Five-Star destination and TripAdvisor's #1 Hotel in the United States. Little wonder, given the sun-drenched climate, stunning natural beauty, championship golf course, one of only 41 Five-Star spas in the world, and irresistible dining - epitomized by Addison, Southern California's only Five-Star/Five Diamond restaurant, helmed by Relais and Chateaux Grand Chef William Bradley. From the completely relaxing to the downright invigorating, you'll find a variety of ways to fill your days (and nights) at The Grand Del Mar. Engage in a seasonal mixology class. Take a dip in one of four heated pools. Enjoy an afternoon hike or horseback ride amid the pristine nature preserve. Or, sip signature cocktails at the resort's enticing lounges - all before retreating to your thoughtfully appointed guestroom. Welcome to The Grand life - just east of the Pacific and slightly north of expectations. ... more   less
