The Grand Del Mar in the hills above Del Mar is a luxurious getaway. The grounds are beautiful, great for strolls . . the rooms are well appointed . . the food in the restaurants is amazing, adaptable to your particular diet, and the live music in the evenings is very relaxing. The resort offers a top notch spa and... More

This was the 5th time we stayed at the Grand Del Mar, so we were not surprised at the level of perfection we experienced. This time, however, we were there for a family reunion with 19 of our nearest and dearest, ranging from age 6-71. It was a very expensive splurge for us, but we are so glad that this... More

We stayed at this property as we wanted a luxury hotel that also offered golf. What a pleasant surprise to find a beautiful property, superb service and fantastic dining. We stayed in a suite with two luxurious bathrooms and a lovely sitting area with a balcony overlooking the pool. We had the pleasure of eating at Addison...right up there with... More

My wife and I had a work project that needed some solitude, and this looked like the perfect place. We holed up in room 325, a beautiful room overlooking the adult pool for eleven days. the location was perfect for the work and the hotel lives up to its reputation. If you look at previous reviews, we have been very... More

This place was a perfect 4 day getaway for my hubby and I. It's a great location to see San Diego and also explore other beach towns in the area. The hotel itself is amazing. Great staff, great rooms and incredible spa and swimming pool. It was very relaxing and you feel pampered the entire time. Loved it.

The staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is 1st class. The property was beautiful and elegant. No details were left out when they built The Grand Del Mar. Having never been there before my only disappointment was that they were not on the ocean but a few miles away. However they had what appeared to... More

We stayed here 5 nights - my husband, my 4 yr and 2 yr old in a two bedroom suite. We were in SD to take the kiddos to Legoland, Zoo and celebrate my daughter's 2nd birthday. My husband and I like to splurge and be "relaxed" since we knew the days walking, swimming, chasing was going to be exhausting.... More

This hotel reminded us in style and elegance of our stay at the Four Seasons in Florence. They have old world charm even though they are relatively new. We stayed for 12 days working on a project and throughout our stay the staff was consistent, attentive and pleasant. Of course, some are more so than others, but overall, the staff... More

This is the only hotel I have stayed at that I really liked in S. CA. The rooms are beautiful, the area is serene, they have service down. The food is okay but at least there are various choices right there at the property. The pools are great, the water temperature is good, it is not too busy, they don't... More

We were placed in a room that only had a twelve inch, "standing room only," balcony. They called it a, "Juliette," balcony--- too small for any table, chair or bench. The only way to enjoy the California sunshine from the room was to keep the French Doors wide open and pull the desk chair up to the railing. Not the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Serenely nestled amidst San Diego's Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and a mere five miles from the Pacific coastline, The Grand Del Mar seamlessly combines the old-world charm of a Mediterranean estate with the modern luxury of an elegant resort. The result: California's premier triple Five-Star destination and TripAdvisor's #1 Hotel in the United States. Little wonder, given the sun-drenched climate, stunning natural beauty, championship golf course, one of only 41 Five-Star spas in the world, and irresistible dining - epitomized by Addison, Southern California's only Five-Star/Five Diamond restaurant, helmed by Relais and Chateaux Grand Chef William Bradley. From the completely relaxing to the downright invigorating, you'll find a variety of ways to fill your days (and nights) at The Grand Del Mar. Engage in a seasonal mixology class. Take a dip in one of four heated pools. Enjoy an afternoon hike or horseback ride amid the pristine nature preserve. Or, sip signature cocktails at the resort's enticing lounges - all before retreating to your thoughtfully appointed guestroom. Welcome to The Grand life - just east of the Pacific and slightly north of expectations. ... more   less
