Had the "best room in the hotel" and it was a sleepless night. Train whistle every hour and could not sleep. Okay folks, this is a very simple motel, in a most remarkable location. The room was large, furnished about as I would expect for an older (35 years or more) property. Bathroom is quite old as well. It happened to be the coldest days of the year in Del Mar, but a room should still have a heater. Ours didn't work, there were no other rooms available for us to stay in, so their solution was to bring in 2 space heaters. This property has a great location and we were pleasantly surprised with the accommodations. The management is in the process of refurbishing the rooms and enhancing the exterior of the motel. We also experienced great customer service. The staff was very friendly and willing to assist in making dinner reservations for us. more

You'll either love it or hate it! If you're willing to put up with anything and everything that could be negative about a motel just to be directly on a great beach, then this place is for you. On a roadtrip (visiting from the UK) I stayed at this place on the basis that it would be OK based on the room rate. Their website certainly makes it look way better than it is. Incredibly basic, the room was more basic than staying in a caravan. Use it only if you can't get in anywhere. more
