DH and I stayed here for 3 nights July 2009. the room is small, but comfortable, tastefully decorated and charming. I would give it a 5 but the bed pillows were small squares and not standard or queen sized pillows. I made a call to the front desk, but I was told that they don't even have regular sized pillows... more

My 9 year old daughter and I went to San Diego for a quick get a way weekend. We picked this hotel because of the price, location and type of hotel that it was. We were very pleased with our choice overall. The rooms are very small but very comfortable and had all the amenities that you would expect a... more

Well priced pleasant hotel in walking distance of Gaslamp, Horton Plaza and seaport. Rooms nicely decorated and comfy, though airconditioner a bit noisy. Hotel staff friendly and informative. Great bar and bar staff and nice restaurant. Really good value for money. Kayc63 more

We caught the flu our last day of vacation. I had to extend a day and the front desk brought us up pop and crackers. The hotel restaurant does not do room service, but when I told the gentleman that answered the phone I was extremely ill and trying to get some soup (after a VERY long day of being... more

I believe that I have stayed in every major chain name hotel. After numerous trips to California, this was my first visit to San Diego. We found this hotel through Expedia and were willing to give this "boutique" hotel a try. Wonderful beds, lovely rooms, perfectly clean and a front desk staff that went out of their way for us.... more

This May we traveled to San Diego. The first two nights we stayed at the Tower23 Hotel in Pacific beach. We had a great room with a balcony for $269 a night. The third night we moved to the Sofia hotel downtown and payed $249. $28 for parking. This hotel is nice and clean, but the rooms are very small,... more

We stayed at The Sofia Hotel for a week in september 2008 and enjoyed it very much. The room was very clean, and restocked every day - as can be expected by a professional and well trained housekeeping staff. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. The location is within walking distance from the action in the Gaslamp Quarter.... more

Staff was very friendly and genuinely hospitable. Check in/out was very easy. What made this stay great actually started out as a bad situation. After letting the hotel know that the noisy college students were keeping us up, they did everything they could to make our stay better. A manager followed up and compensated us for our trouble. This is... more

My sister and I stayed at The Sofia for four nights. The staff was very helpful, the rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, and the location was perfect for our needs. Walking distance (but not in the hubbub) of the Gaslamp area, walking distance to Little Italy and Seaport Village, great location for catching the bus or trolley. I found... more

I choose the Sofia because I wanted a hotel in/near the gaslamp district and it was the only one I was able to find for a reasonable price that wasn't a total dump. While the hotel is located right near the gaslamp there are definately some scary-ish homeless/crazies wandering around over there. But then again, they are also all over... more
