Sofia hotel is an old building of the twenties but refurbished to modern times. They serve a five-star hotel and the rooms are cozy and comfortable. It's near the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter where are the main bars of the downtown area.

We stayed overnight as it was near airport. Excellent location near lots of restaurants and bars. Would be great for a couple on a getaway that wanted something different with character. Had to pay for parking $30 dollars but valet was great. Rooms are small for family but doable. Staff was very welcoming and professional.

Stayed overnight after a late flight into San Diego. Was really disappointed in the rooms, which were so small that only one person could pass by the beds and the closet/drawer area. Walls are very thin so you can hear people next door and in the hall. Only nice part of the stay was the friendly staff, particularly one person... More

As could presumed in a historic hotel, the rooms are definitively too small when travelling with a family of 4. Better leave your suitcases in your car, because there is no space to open them in the room. You can only put them on the beds, which are also rather narrow. You can barely walk around the beds. When using... More

My friends and I got a great rate on this hotel, which served as a good home base for our San Diego weekend. I wouldn't call this hotel trendy. There isn't anything special about the decor or atmosphere, and the bar closes really early. Additionally, while it's within walking distance of the night life of the Gaslamp District, there is... We enjoyed our stay at the Sofia Hotel. We love hotels with character and history as we travel. The hotel is on the edge of the gaslamp district so it is quieter than being right in the midst of all of the noise. The room was small but we expected it in a city hotel. The room had a modern... More

I stayed here on a conference trip with the discounted rate. I found the hotel to be in a perfect location but I am a city-dweller used to walking. It is a bit outside of the crazy tourist trap area but is still an easy walk to the convention center, restaurants, and waterfront. The hotel itself is lovely and has... More

We stayed at The Sofia over the 4th of July weekend, and had a fantastic time. It was our first time in San Diego, and although we heard the Gaslamp district was very touristy, we were being tourists anyways, so it was conveniently located. It's two blocks from the train station (which we took from L.A), one block away from... More

We stayed at the Sofia Hotel for three days in July and were so happy with our experience. We upgraded to a suite for a nominal fee, and were so pleased with the room. Plenty of room, and enjoyed having the sitting room area. The staff was extremely helpful, and the gentlemen in the valet area were exceptional! The area... More

We stayed at the Sofia for a night. The location is great. The room is very small, but b/c of the layout, it didn't feel suffocating. The decor is nice. Parking staff was very helpful as they found a nail in our tire when they brought out the car for us. Phew. The free tour group was fun. I would... More
