After a plumbing problem put the kibosh on our weekend stay aboard a relative's motor yacht, we ended up at the Sofia. As much as there is no comparison between a hotel and sleeping at sea, the Sofia acquitted herself very well. We arrived after dinner, so we could not experience the restaurant, but we did avail ourselves of the... More

My wife and I usually prefer to stay at boutique hotels and more specifically the Kimpton hotels in San Diego when we travel but The Sofia Hotel has a special place in our hearts. We love the location as it is a convenient 10 minute drive to Balboa park and a 15 minute walk to the Seaport Village. Within a... More

This was my second stay the Sofia Hotel, with the last being 4 years ago. I stayed in the larger junior suite, which was large and comfy with nice windows and views. The sofa and chairs and extra tv were also very nice. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom small but clean. The small resort fee included little... More

The staff at this hotel could not be more helpful & welcoming. Rooms are small and didn't have a tub, but the shower was great. The room had everything we needed (& more). They offered lots of extras like free walking tours & yoga but we didn't make them - great touch though. Loved the decor and everything about this... More

Very well located next to the Gaslamp District, excellent restaurant and service, with a breeze of the past. I think it's the best hotel to enjoy San Diego, next to local public transportation, so you don't worry about driving and parking. We really enjoyed staying at this Hotel

For me, I don't really need much more than what Sofia provides. Clean and comfortable in a central location. Note that there is a $8ish fee to use the facilities and for the 2 bottles of water and coffee in your room. There is also a complimentary walking tour of downtown San Diego which i am about to go on.... More

As you approach the hotel the whole building looks like a painted set. All around are new buildings and this old block sits in the middle of them. We had a bigger family room (628) which had two doubles & a double pull out sofa and was plenty big enough. The hotel was clean and stylish and in keeping with... More

I've stayed here before and it sits the needs of someone going to comic con. The room is the size of a large closet. From the bed you can hear EVERYTHING that's bathroom in the bathroom and heaven forbid someone has a stinky, cuz you'll be smelling that for awhile! Good news is that there is a microwave and fridge.... More

We stayed in the Sofia for 3 months in May and really enjoyed it. It's in the older part of Downtown in an area that if you love meticulously maintained older buildings you will really enjoy. There are blocks and blocks of restaurant, pubs and shops in walking distance. The hotel is quiet and has nice rooms with comfortable beds.... More

Service here is unparalleled - from booking, to check-in through check-out. Friendly and classy. Rooms are very well designed, comfortable beds, and great amenities. I stay here every year for Comic Con. Very convenient - walkable to convention center yet far enough away to have a quiet place to stay.
