Kimptons are great hotels because they represent a different approach from the cookie-cutter high-end chain norm. I have stayed at several and the Solamar is better than average. It has a fantastic pool/outside bar area complete with firepits and wonderful drinks (I highly recommend the pear martini). Even if you don't stay here, it should not be missed. The room,... More

This hotel is beautiful and to be experienced. It is one of the very creative Kimpton hotels -- the difference here (as explained by the staff) is that this hotel was built from the ground up instead of being a rehab in cool old buildings like most Kimptons. The result is a super-cool pool on the fourth floor that has... More

We booked the hotel at $105 through Priceline. Location was great and many great restaurants are within walking distance. The other major hotels (e.g. Marriot, Omni) are just couple of blocks away. We parked our car in the next block (which has a big "PARK" sign, after the Marriot hotel) for $8. This rate is applicable only when you enter... More

Spent three nights here, September 23-25. Never again! I had read all the reviews about the noise from the 4th floor pool area and called in advance to be moved to a higher floor facing Petco Stadium. That solved one problem, but many more surfaced. The minibar had been emptied at the request of another guest with the same last... More

Great boutique hotel, the location was the best right at the Gaslamp Quarter. Tip, check in then park a block away it cost $12 per 24 hrs. compared to $24 for 24 hrs at hotel. Fantastic room, beautiful lobby and very nice staff. I paid $100 at Priceline, Hotel website at $250.00 It never hurts to bid low and see... More

I booked this hotel on Priceline for $125/night which is decent considering the time of year. I was excited to stay at a Kimpton property in one of my favorite cities, but as soon as entered, my excitement vanished. Immediately after getting my bid accepted on Priceline, I called to make sure we would get two beds since we would... More

When I checked into the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by the modern, yet understated decor. After remarking the same to the check-in staffer, he smiled, shook his head, and said, "You saw the Tripadvisor reviews, didn't you?" Then, to avoid late night noise (as noted in these reviews), he was able to quickly and efficiently give us a room... More

Stayed here for 5 days on business during Sept. First off, the weather is superb in San Diego during this time of year. I highly recommend going at this time because the touristy attractions are less crowded (Zoo/SeaWorld). The Solamar is in the gaslamp district of SD. The valet parking is only $20 per night which I thought was a... More

Stayed for a long weekend earlier this month (Sept. 2007). This hotel has major management issues that began at check-in. Arriving 15 minutes after check-in is supposed to begin, we were told that there were no non-smoking rooms available yet as housekeeping was not finished cleaning rooms. We were told to wait in the bar and come back later. An... More

This hotel offerred the smallest room of our 4 hotel trip to California, and it was the most expensive. I can accept that being in the city was a part of that cost, but I had expected more. The first few upper floors of the hotel are a parking lot for the guests, controlled by valets. There is parking on... More
