I was having a miserable stay at the Hyatt Manchester - terrible room, poor service - and decided to spend my last night in San Diego at the Hotel Solamar. I'm so glad I did! They single handedly saved my trip. They were gracious enough to accomodate my requests for early check in and late check out, provided a complimentary... More

This is the place to stay for walking distance to all the restaurants and bars in the Gaslamp. Beautifully decorated and so accommodating, we enjoyed the social happy hour in the evening before dining out.

We chose this hotel as we had stayed in a kimpton before in Vancouver , and thought it was a nice hotel group. It was not the same experience I would say this time. The "happy hour" is still the highlight though and a good idea to get travellers together. The morning we left a drilling and construction noise sounded... More

San Diego locals, coming to downtown for a comedy show. We decided to make a mini vacation out of it and stay there instead of getting a taxi. We picked a Kimpton Property to earn nights with the reward program. We just booked a basic room with a AAA rate. The hotel is a little outside the Gaslamp area but... More

My husband and I stayed here for our annual little Thanksgiving getaway. We stayed in a "Virtuoso Suite" and really liked it: spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed, great work station (wi-fi is free if you join the Kimpton Karma Awards program), and beautiful bathroom with one of the largest bathtubs I have ever seen. The staff was... More

valet- prompt and courteous the moment you drive up. Desk staffs- friendly and efficient in check in and checkouts. Great front desk service. Room service- food always arrived hot and correct with all the necessary items needed to enjoy the order: all sauces, utensils, etc. Rooms- spacious and modern. Beds are comfortable with downfilled comforters and pillows. Bath robes are... More

My wife and I stayed here for an anniversary trip we took Nov 13-20. I booked this hotel on Priceline 8 months ago for a 4 night stay. First, the hotel is in an area that has a lot of construction going on. The parking lot people referred to using across the street is gone. They are now building on... More

Solamar is my favorite place when staying in downtown San Diego. Calm, easy going, comfortable rooms, sneaky great restaurant - and never seems to be fully booked or crowded. Rooms are spacious (at least mine was) and comfortable, quiet, and hotel staff has always been very friendly and responsive to questions and requests. Why isn't this place more crowded? It's... excellent location. Many reviews complained about construction noise but we didn't have any problems, perhaps because we specifically requested a quiet room and ended up on the 9th floor overlooking the pool. My only gripe (very minor) was the poor lighting in the bathroom and lack of a bathroom fan.

This is a must do in SanDiego. Minutes from the airport, and steps from the Gaslight district ,it holds some of the best museums and dining establishments next to it. Exceptionally clean, knowledgable
