Considering our group was at this location for one night, the 'troubles' at this hotel weren't enough to ruin our trip (thankfully!). Check in was quick, but very unprofessional. Being a front desk clerk myself, I know the level of courtesy a hotel employee should keep and I feel like this wasn't carried out here. The gentleman in the front... more
The hotel is a 10 minute ride by their free shuttle from the airport. It is a short block and a half to the marina, and it is on the western edge of Little Italy. The Sicilian Festival was going full swing the weekend that I was there. Check-in in the modest lobby was quick and easy. The staff were... more
Drove down to Hampton Inn for my wedding anniversary. This is were my husband and I stayed for our honeymoon, as well. Because I had indicated in my online reservation that it was my anniversary, we were greeted with "Congratulations" and there was wine and chocolate in our room. Our parking was also comped during our stay. This is a... more
We had read about noise problems so when we checked in we asked for a quiet room. The room was clean comfortable and just around the corner from the pool. We were in town to cruise with holland america to Hawaii. The hotel shuttle service took us to the restaurant picked us up, took us to the zoo and the... more
Right next to railroad tracks with freight trains going by and blasting their horn at least once per hour. This definitely kept me awake despite wearing earplugs. On the bright side, the breakfast was good and this is walking distance to some good bars and restaurants in the gaslamp as well as the SS Midway and other ships in the... more

Before the cruise we were toward the back and the big trains like Amtrak do come in loud and clear especially when they blow the whistle whilst crossing streets. On Sunday night after cruise we were in the front on the street and the noise was barely noticeable. The value and location... more
I hate to complain as the hotel is clean and the staff is wonderful but the trains - oh my god the trains. We were on the 5th floor, looking over the tracks (friends were in the front, still a problem) and could not sleep because of the constant freight trains going by. Every hour, at about 10 past, loud,... more
I stayed in this hotel DEC 16th-20th. Hotel has good location with close proximity to heart of San Diego and is actually located in Little Italy, on Pacific Hwy in city centre. I appreciate high quality services : 1) warm and friendly welcome 2) complimentary shuttle 3) delicious, rich breakfast 4) nice equipped room 5) business centre with free internet... more
Hampton Inns are rapidly becoming my travel hotel of choice: they're usually predictable, clean, and have free wireless (plus *ahem* a 10% AARP discount). This one met all the requirements. One caveat, though: they put a $10 automatic parking fee on the room. They do warn you about this at check-in and I opted out, finding street parking right around... more
