We spent one week in San Diego and we stayed at La Pensione. The location is wonderful: right in the heart of Little Italy and very close to Downtown San Diego. The room and the bathroom were big and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Few negative comments: 1) our room was facing the street so on Friday... More

Pros of this hotel: -Clean -Staff is nice and helpful -Location. Located in the heart of Little Italy, and a short walk to the Green Line rail station. On Saturday there's an awesome farmer's market right outside. Cons: -Rooms are very small. We did not mind so much, because we were out and about for most of our trip. However,... More

Hello Natalie, Thanks for staying with us and for leaving us a review! Good news - we are going to start offering FREE WiFi in August 2014! I'm happy that in the meantime you were able to get Caffe Italia's connection and hang out in their coffeeshop. That place is a local favorite. I'll look into the air conditioning and... More

I spend 6 days here while in town for a work conference - great location AWAY from the Gaslamp district but still close enough. As others will tell you, the rooms can be quite small - mine was no exception but so what? The location was great, the room was clean, the vibe was outstanding. Close to dining, shopping, the... After reading the reviews, I was a bit worried but we will be back since we loved it so.... The good: After arriving by train, we walked to 8 blocks to the hotel. Safe neighborhoods and relatively easy walk, even with my difficulty walking. The area surrounding the hotel was incredible, even at first sight. Check in was a breeze.... More

Thank you so much for your review and for the insightful feedback, both good and the bad. (glad to know there was no 'The Ugly'!) We're glad you enjoyed your stay, but sorry you didn't sleep well. July 4th was definitely a raucous night - it was noisy even in the usually quietest parts of the county. Either way, I... More

This hotel looks very nice from the outside and the rooms are modern with a nice finish and very clean. The bathroom was also very nice with a great shower. The rooms are very small, however I was expecting this from reading other reviews. The hotel is in a great location in Little Italy with loads of restaurants close by... More

Hi Natalie, First off, thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to leave us a review! Sounds like you had fun exploring Little Italy and San Diego Bay. Yes, parking is definitely at a premium here, as it is in several parts of downtown San Diego. I know how you feel about running out often to pay... More

This is a great hotel with friendly staff in a great location which we spent 4 very pleasant nights in. The Saturday market is right on the doorstep and runs for about 4 blocks, the only down side is that it is quite noisy when they are setting up but not too bad. The rooms are modern with good showers... More

Hello - thanks for the review! Saturday mornings are some of my favorite times of the week - only because of our awesome farmers market. I agree it gets a little noisy at the very beginning as all the vendors bring in their wares and set up their booths. But, all the cool food finds, local people watching and neighbor... More

A very attractive hotel but one of the smallest hotel rooms we have stayed in, and we have stayed in some pretty small ones travelling through Europe. No wardrobe, but plenty of drawers; no coffee facilities in the room or lobby - but there is a café downstairs where you can buy. No breakfast - again, the café. There is... More

Thanks for the feedback and for choosing to stay with us. We're aware of our small rooms, and that's why we're able to offer some of the best prices you'll ever see in downtown San Diego, not just in the summer, but throughout the entire year. Locals know as being 'cheap and chic!" Also, our smallest rooms only make up... More

Arrived in San Diego and checked in early in the morning the gentleman at the reception desk was very helpful. Impressed with the decor but size of the room was a bit on the small side. Lighting at mirror was a bit dim made it tough to shave. Beds were so comfortable. We had a room facing the south street... More

I have reviewed this hotel before, it was better when I was alone and came back to the room late at night and just slept there. As I said before , the smallest rooms ($119) ) are small, very, very, small. This time around I had luggage and there were two of us, it was pretty hard to navigate, kinda... More

First off - thanks so much for trying us out a second time and bringing a guest! We're aware of the intimate size of our standard rooms, and are actually pretty happy with them, as they are considered one of the best travel deals in downtown San Diego. And, as you mentioned, we do have larger rooms available at a... More
