Stayed at BB in August 2011. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay next to the pacific beach then this is perfect. Some of the staff were friendly but others were pretty rude. The staff sleep in dorms just like the guest. I was being shhhed at by a member of staff by talking to my mate at... More

I stayed here in January with two friends(20 and 21 years old) and had an awesome time. This hostel has a great location(right on the beach) and a great atmosphere. The staff here are very friendly and pointed us in the right direction multiple times. All three nights we stayed here there was a bunch of people on the deck... More

I stayed here with a number of buddies and wasnt overly impressed with my stay. We booked our stay last minute but I did not feel we got great value for money given that the hotel was not busy at the time. We had a private room with ensuite bathrooms and it served a purpose at the time although i... More

The Banana Bungalow hostel was located right on the beach in very close proximity to bars and restaurants. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the deck area overlooking the shore is a great place to socialise. Bit far from other attractions in San Diego but if you're looking for a beach break and decent nightlife this is definitely... More

I travelled to San Diego solo for a week starting 10th Dec and decided to stay here after reading a few reviews. I was preparing myself for a week of 'slumming it' and just using the hostel as somewhere to bed down after exploring. However, the hostel provided a home from home. During the few days of rain we had... More

I stayed at the Banana Bungalow after a trip in Europe when I decided that while I was in my younger twenties, I wouldn't splurge on hotels unless I couldn't find a decent hostel. The Banana Bungalow was a great little spot tucked right in on the amazing beaches of San Diego. Our room was okay, the bathrooms were okay,... More

I stayed here for a week with six friends (we were UK students studying abroad, so spent Spring Break in San Diego). It was the first hostel I'd ever stayed in so was apprehensive, and having now stayed in a few others it's definitely not the best. Rooms, bedding etc could be cleaner, and there is sand everywhere, but that's... More

I haven't been to a lot of hostels in my life but this experience was amazing. 27dollars per night and being in front of the sea, meeting people from all over the world, that was great. The people working there were nice too and willing to help me for anything.

Great location, Right on the beach. The rooms very very sandy and basic. - Very Busy, I stayed over 4th July Weekend Staff were helpful. Not the best but is a a very busy time so i put it down to that. Bike hire was cheap and good fun. I would definitely stay again.

Reviews are not great so was a little apprehensive but mates had stayed here before. If you are looking for a quiet private stay then this isn't for you. However I really enjoyed it despite the lack of sleep. Location was amazing straight onto beach. Rooms were average but it's a hostel. The best part was the social area a... More
