Easily the dirtiest hostel I have stayed in. Two of the toilets didn't work, dirt and sand everywhere. Had a fun three nights though probably couldn't stay there any longer. The location is prime - literally on the beach, has a great deck over looking the beach. The staff are all friendly and simply love the place. One of them... more

Stayed for one night in private room $65. Was told on arrival that there was no water for the day so no toilet, cooking, washing and NO reduction was offered. Room was dirty, sheets and bedding stank and were stained, there was an empty condom wrapper between the bunks (i took photos of all this). The beds were really uncomfortable... more

Overall as a hostel, it serves it's purpose though ultimately could be a tad bit cleaner than what we seen during our 3 day stay. It's perfectly located on the beach front and local shops & restaurants. Some of the staff weren't overly welcoming but seemed to prefer the young single girls checkin in, if ye know what i mean..!... more

Me and my friends had a great four nights stop at BB. Every night was a blast, a big alcohol infused party with a group of awesome people who were all having a great time. We spent our days on the beach or deck chilling out and the nights either getting drunk playing games on deck of in one of... more

This place in one word is "DIRTY". Unfriendly, unhelpful proprietor who like cash only (pretends doesn't know how to use credit card machine). Remainder of staff were friendly but pretty useless. Arrived into a room, who's floor was dirty, sheets stank, mattress like a concrete slab (whcih caused severe backpain for remiander of stay). No blinds or curtains that resulted... more

I had been in the area while traveling for business, so I figured I would continue my stay at the banana bungalow hostel. I have traveled all through europe in hostels and this one had some of the friendliest people along with best location(directly on the beach) The beach side deck is great, plenty of people hanging around playing games.... more

I stayed here earlier this year and I have to say it was the worst hostel experience I have ever encountered. The fifteen or so people that work there basically live in the dorms. They come from all over the world, Australia, Scotland and Ireland. This means you are constantly being watched. You may even get the impression that you... more

I have made it a habit of going to San Diego every summer, and although it is fun each time, the lodging is drab and boring. However, this last time, a friend suggested Banana Bungalow. WOW! I had a blast, made friends, and didn't have to give up any comfort. The rates were so cheap that I was able to... more

I loved the BB. I met many amazing people, and had loads of fun. There's a little 2-week sliver of my life that was spent there, happily, freezing on the deck by the beach in one of San Diego's coldest winters, huddled around a keg every night. I still keep in contact with many of the staff and other hostellers... more
