Stayed as a couple during July for 5 nights. We were very disappointed with this place. The lobby gives a nice impression, there are sofas sat by portable air conditioners, with iPads for you to use, an area for simple food preparation and two computers with internet access (for a nominal fee). There is a spacious lounge area and a... More

I was in Boston for one night and needed a good value place to spend the night. The staff at the front desk were very helpful. My room was basic but all that I needed for the night. The room reminded me of old halls in residence at a university as there was a single bed, wardrobe, drawers and a... More

don't choose it if you don't want to make a worst memory of Boston dirty, unkind staff, old building, 10min far from station, no air conditioner in rooms, in lobby as well, lowest speed wifi... how do they have all of these!? FXXX it was third time to Boston.. i saw something never been experienced.. I will stay here when... More

So baring in mind it's about 45-50 for a double room I wasn't expecting much... And I wasn't disappointed. The rooms are beyond basic. There is no AC so during humid hot summer nights it's pretty unbearable. As there is no AC only a fan we had to keep the window open all the time. It was therefore SUPER noisy... More

3 of us stayed in the hostel and it was very basic indeed. the room was extremely hot, NO AC which is ridiculous. we had to get a fan blowing into the room so we could cool off. breakfast was okay. lifts were slow as ever. quicker taking the stairs. showers and toilets were okay. we got by. you have... I rented a single room, which was very basic (squeaky bed, dresser, desk, chair and lamp). BUT, it was SO HOT! My room, which faces west, got extremely warm and uncomfortable with the morning/afternoon sun streaming in through the window. Nowhere on their website was it clearly indicated that there is NO A/C in this hostel. Why are they hiding... More

No aircon in rooms fan does nothing it is like a sauna. Location is good but I've felt more comfortable in the middle of the Sahara.. In desperate need of cool air in the building. Wet towels shouldn't be needed to sleep anywhere

As a hostel was nice. The room was simple but clean. The environment is nice and the internal garden is beautiful. The toilets were ok and the location good. However it was not worthy the price we paid. For that price we could go to a hotel!

This is the cheapest place to stay in Boston if you want a private room (which is not to say that it's cheap, but it's an expensive city). It is marketed as a hostel, not a hotel, and so it has to be accepted that the standard of accommodation will be as such. I stayed for four nights - two... More

As myself and my partner are travelling across America for 3 months we wanted to stay somewhere relatively cheap but also clean and comfortable for our stay in Boston. Unfortunately the 40 Berkeley was cheap but neither clean nor comfortable. Don't let the nice clean, air conditioned lobby fool you, once you get into your room it is like stepping... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
40 Berkeley is your best bet for affordable, dormitory-style lodging in Boston. A great alternative to expensive hotels, this clean, safe and quiet hostel is located in Boston's hip South End — a fantastic downtown neighborhood for walking to the best shopping and restaurants. It's a safe and well lit residential neighborhood just steps from Copley Square, the Back Bay, and Boston's many universities and colleges. Boston Common and the Public Gardens — with the famous duck pond and swan boats — are just a couple of the beautiful parks in the area. The location can't be beat. ... more   less
