We stayed here two nights at the end of August and Boston was roasting hot! We were in a double bed room on the 7th floor it was like being in an oven. We had the windows open, top fan on and a small fan that was in our room on and we were still sweating the entire night. You... More

I have stayed here for two times now. The experience has been the same both times. It's absolutely great value. Basic, secure and clean. Not that much excitement or any special atmosphere, but if you need a good place to sleep, this is it. Not much else to say. Thanks again! Here's one happy customer.

At first glance this looks ok and bearable for a couple of days. The lobby looks nice, iPads available to use, looks clean, looks just like you'd expect a hostel to look, until we got in our room! After traveling through the night we couldn't wait for 3 o'clock to check in, sleep and shower! We opened the door and... More

We arrived at 40berkley and had a great first impression. Big Entrance, nice Stuff, billiardtable, movieroom and a lot of things. but then we arrived in our room, it smells like a lot of cleanser and the floor was Dirty and sticky. and there was no plug socket working with our converter. The baths are ok. We choosed 40Berkley because... More

The hoStel is really spartan, the bathrooms are not always clean and toilets don't have any privacy, since lateral walls and doors have a 4 cm gap between. The breakfast is really good but it's given in a nearby restaurant ( you'll receive a ticket and it will grant you a choice between 4 different types of breakfast ) Staff... More

Definitely too expensive for what you get, but i couldn't find any better. The position is quite good, you have two bars (one is where you get breakfast if included) a supermarket just across the street and a couple of pub close by. The room was clean and the bathrooms too (you have three showers and three toilets for the... More

It's an old building that was remodeled partly. It is located on the corner of two streets, Berkley is a moderately busy street. We were given a room on 6th floor. The room was very tiny which in itself is not a problem, but I think you need to be aware of the size. The room was for 2 guests.... More

I stayed in a standard single room and it seemed very clean. The view was great, but with the blinds closed, the lighting and simplicity of the room made it feel a bit like jail or something haha. I have heard a lot of complaints about air conditioning, but honestly if you open the windows it's not a problem. The... More

Pros: The only nice thing they have is a lounge downstairs. It's pretty much it. The location is good too, but the negatives outweight it. Cons: It was so bad that I don't even know where to start. The room was small, smelly and not renovated for at least 20 years if not more. The halls and stairs looked like... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
40 Berkeley is your best bet for affordable, dormitory-style lodging in Boston. A great alternative to expensive hotels, this clean, safe and quiet hostel is located in Boston's hip South End — a fantastic downtown neighborhood for walking to the best shopping and restaurants. It's a safe and well lit residential neighborhood just steps from Copley Square, the Back Bay, and Boston's many universities and colleges. Boston Common and the Public Gardens — with the famous duck pond and swan boats — are just a couple of the beautiful parks in the area. The location can't be beat. ... more   less
