The owners are milking this property and not keeping it up to the standards it should for the price. The grounds were unkempt versus pristine grounds at other B&B's in the neighborhood. Here's an example of why you want to go to a B&B run by the owners versus staff. While everyone was quite pleasant, they were out of touch... More

The owners are proud of the Inn and the service we provide. Our gardens are vastly different from the surrounding B&B’s, whose largest feature tends to be a lawn. Ralph, owner and master gardener created a cottage style garden with an enormous water feature that stretches from front to back on the property. Our garden harbors unusual plants, like black... We were guests for three years running. The first was good, the second tedious, the third horrible. The boys (owners) are so into themselves that you do not feel like a guest, but a privileged minion. If you question the menu you are admonished; you are a dolt. I hurt myself in the bathroom and, in their opinion, it was... More

Frank and Ralph have owned and operated the Inn for over fifteen years now. Their unique personalities are what set us apart from other establishments. When the owners are not present we have at least one staff member able to service guests’ needs. We serve a maximum of 24 people, a 3-course gourmet meal promptly at 9 a.m., accommodating dietary... Met an old friend for a girls night getaway. Was incredibly impressed with staff, room and food! Loved all the special touches including snacks and drinks and coffee and fire place in our room. We stayed in the Robert frost room which was perfect! We walked to restaurants downtown although it might be a tad far if weather was bad.... More

Our children gave us nights at The Whitegate Inn and Cottages for a gift....what a treat!!! We stayed in the Ralph Waldo Emerson cottage which was a separate cottage from the main house....it was quiet and romantic! We chose to go in October for the Fall leaf color on the Parkway so it was too cool for the gardens at... More

We just returned from a relaxing trip to Asheville. We stayed at the White Gate based on reviews from this site and the impressive website for this B&B. Even though it was pricey, we didn't mind paying for quality. However, this B&B didn't live up to expectations. The room was very nicely constructed, but the bedspread was in need of... More

If you are a literary type, you will love this gem in the Montford district of Asheville. Close enough to town to walk, friendly corgis to greet you and awesome food. The rooms are named for great authors and are tastefully furnished. Wonderful hosts and a beautiful greenhouse to boot. Nice small wedding venue too.

A friend recommended this B&B to us. We were graciously welcomed and we only attended one afternoon wine and appetizer session and a pleasant experience. We were able to bring our dogs and that was a real treat. We walked downtown every day and it was just the right distance. Because it was a very cool weekend, it was an... More

We booked two nights here in August as a mini-vacation after dropping our daughter off at college. Asheville has so many B&Bs and inns that it's hard to pick one. We chose this one because of its amenities, because we saw a TV segment about it, and because it advertised it is within walking distance of dowtown. Keep in mind... More

From the moment we checked in we felt very special and welcomed at the B&B - the welcome glass of champagne was a great touch! The attention to detail in the rooms and passion the owners have for hosting their guests shines through. Lovely room and fantastic breakfast! We hope to visit again one day.

The attention to detail at this B & B is top-notch. My visit started with a personalized welcome and tour and got better from there. The food is wonderful. You do need to be aware however, that the three course breakfast is set so you do not have a choice in what you are going to eat. The other B... More
