At one point I had intended staying here. I walked into reception and the staff were disinterested and verging on rude. It smelled odd and the reception area / foyer made it look like a correctional facility more than a hotel. Best avoided!!

The Polaris Hotel is probably the biggest crap hole I've ever stayed in and this includes vacant buildings I had to sleep in while I was stationed in Iraq. If a fire marshal was to do a real walk-through of this place, I'm pretty sure he would pass out before he even got to the area where my room was.... More

The first rule of travel is "smile and be flexible." Yes, this is an old, beat up place. Yes, there are sometimes colorful characters staying in the room next to you. But it's warm, it's dry, and it's about 20 feet from the race finish line. And the staff is great and really do want to please. The onsite bar... More

My husband and I stayed here for the Iditarod 2012. We were very excited just to have a room, It was tiny, clean and warm. The bar below is a little noisy but that is all part of the experience. Staff was very friendly but some guest were a little strange. Had a domestic dispute in the room across from... More

I stayed here back in May of 2008... As three of the four other reviewers so far have said, this er..."hotel" is a terrible disappointment. It would not even qualify as a motel in the Lower 48 (much less Anchorage or Fairbanks). It is owned by an Asian family (or cooperative thereof), and is a combined "hotel", liquor store and... More

This place is the nastiest place I have ever been to. The carpets and linen are filthy. It smelled like smoke and spilt booze. There was drunks sleeping in the hallways puking all over the place. We had a shared bathroom and one of the doors had a fist hole through it, and there was a man sleeping on the... More

The owners were friendly enough, but the room was pretty rough. We booked late and were lucky to find a room (Week of the Iditarod finishers) - but it is not for the faint of heart. One towel (I did get a second towel on the second day but was informed that it was the last one they had). We... More

we picked this location based soley on price and i'll tell you, you get what you pay for. my wife and i came up for her nephews graduation in may and stayed there for 2 nights. we thought the on-site bar would be a plus for a nice night cap before bed but apparantely the party doesnt stop. it was...
