We were there on a Wed afternoon and practically had the place to ourselves. Next day is was sunny and there were more people but plenty of room for all! Not camping, just enjoying the beautiful wide, clean Atlantic beach. Had sandwich from the little snack shop and it was delicious! Restrooms and changing area are clean and convenient.

This is just 2.5 hours outside the DC area, but it is a world away. We really enjoyed our stay there! Horses everywhere (watch out for all the poop), beautiful beaches. The campground had pit toilets, but were clean. The Park staff were really knowledgeable and friendly. We did not have any problem with bugs but it was incredibly windy,... More

We enjoyed a stay at the campground in early July. We tried to get an Oceanside site, but missed the boat and didn't book early enough. Luckily we had some flexibility with dates, and booked mid-week at the Bayside campgrounds. These sites don't look as "pretty" or magical as the Oceanside sites, but were well-maintained with all the camping amenities... More

There is a reason this place is basically booked solid on weekends throughout the summer. It is one of the best places this experienced and well traveled camper has ever been to. Great and unique camping, but also several other activities to keep you occupied and having fun. Did we see more horses or more piles of horse s***? The... More

Wild ponies are amazing. Nice beach, relaxing with wild ponies. Ponies are mostly in the marsh so be sure to check them out. Tranquility. My kids enjoyed the beach. June was cold but we plan to go back in August.

We got our week pass and went everyday. My daughter will tell you best week ever. Lets see awsome seashells, 2 dozen clams in 2 hrs, 8 keeper crabs, picnic lunches, wild ponies, and she is an official junior ranger

I grew up in Washington DC and thus had many opportunities to go to Chincoteague and Assateague, enticing places due to the book series Misty of Chincoteague (and her foal, etc.). While it is jam-packed at the height of the summer, I recently decided to try going in early spring, hoping for smaller crowds. Surprisingly, it was still pretty crowded,... More

I lucked out and somehow got a campsite practically on the dunes. At night you can hear the waves which is so peaceful. Be warned that half the campground is under construction so it is even harder to get a reservation.

We tent camped and it was January so it was cold, but we had a blast until the storm rolled in. We were a drive-up. They never told us about a storm coming in. We do not have "smart phones" and even told the gal that. We ended up sleeping cramped in the truck cab because the wind was horrible.... More

Ever since I've been a child, camping at Assateague has been a must. I used to go to the state park next door, but now as an adult I make a point to go at least once a year for a weekend trip in July or August with a bunch of friends here at the cheaper national park next door... More
