My sister and I found Laurel to be very unaccomodating and grouchy. We were there early in the season and the place needs a deep cleaning. She asked us why we didn't call first to say we're getting in late. What are you? My mother?! This is only one of several reasons I wouldn't stay here again, and was the... More

We always welcome walk-ins if bunks are available. The trouble with your arrival is that you skipped the step of registering and paying and went straight into the hostel. Guests are welcome to come after 9 pm and those who do usually let me know of their plans so that disruption to other guests is minimized. More

A nice, tidy hostel. Two separate bunkrooms with bunk beds, and waffle breakfast is included! The kitchen is also available to guests all day, and is well-stocked with cookware (BYO food). Laurel also has a good stock of maps, brochures, and books in case you want to spend an extra day in the area.

Laurel was a fantastic hostess. The layout was clean, orderly, and organized. It was truly a great place to stay during my one day break. I will definitely stay here again and I hope to stay longer next time in order to explore more of Harpers Ferry! Thanks so much, Laurel!

Laurel is a real second-mile attitude Laurel's shuttle service for the airport and Applachian trail drop-offs. there are two bunk rooms, one smaller, one larger. there are mix of younger hikers and older cyclists on the C&O canal trail. there was a nice mixing between people and Laurel helped this along, showing a genuine interest in people and their activities.... Stayed here for 1 night while on a biking trip. I should also make it a point like an earlier reviewer that for bikers who are already tired biking the C&O tow path, the climb to the hill to reach the hostel is a killer. I had already done 50 miles that evening but the last mile, I almost gave... More

I enjoyed having you and your family visit the Teahorse! I want to add that there are 2 full bathrooms in the hostel, not one, that are available to everyone in the hostel. We have three restaurants within walking distance of the hostel: Mena's Pizza and Italian Restaurant, the Anvil Restaurant and the Canal House Cafe. All are open Wed.... More

We stayed here recently during a road trip through the Shenandoah Valley and found it to be a great alternative to the relatively weak hotel scene near Harpers Ferry. Our group rented a private "family room" with four beds and a reasonable amount of space-we didn't feel as though we were on top of each other. Laurel, who runs the... More

This facility is not bad for hostel but I would not recommend it if you are riding the C&O Canal bike trail because it's located too far off the trail - about 1 mile away and up two (2) steep hills. The bunks were comfortable with fitted sheets and the bathrooms were clean but the room rate was expensive for... More

After our first 58 miles of cycling the C&O Canal (en-route to Pittsburgh) - seven friends and I were thrilled to arrive at the Teahorse Hostel. Our host Laurel welcomed us to a comfortable second floor bunk room with great hot showers and colorful bunks. The waffle breakfast (beautifully prepared by laurel's son) with fresh fruit was a great way... More

I have stayed at the wonderful Teahorse hostel three times when biking the C&O from DC to Harpers Ferry. This place is very special, with a unique blend of thru-hikers, section hikers, folks biking the C&O and just fellow travelers. The evenings I've spent at the Teahorse getting to know people whose stories are all different and interesting have been... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in May having cycled out from DC on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath and back on the Washington & OD trail. 2 weary cyclists were welcomed by Laurel and it was wonderful to have a hot shower and relax in light, airy and clean surroundings. Although the hostel has mixed dormitories, Laurel makes... More
