We have stayed here the last few years and it's a neat, fun place to stay right in the heart of Bayfield. You just need to keep in mind this is an "Inn". You can walk to every place in Bayfield including, and most importantly, Lake Superior. We tried the authentic fish boil and had a lot of fun. We... More

We were up in Bayfield last weekend. First time at Gruenke's. My wife and I really loved the character of the place. The room we had was #2 and it did not have a bathroom in it, had to use the ones just down the hall. This was not an issue for us. The bed was very firm, and a... More

Grenke's is a small Inn that is located just a short 5 min walk from Lake Superior. This Inn has been around for over 40 years and is part of the local community. Rooms are adequate and clean but clearly out of style. If you just want a place to sleep and shower, then the decor won't bother you. The... More

First off, we were a bit late to get there but we called in advance and they said it was fine. When we showed up there was an extremely intoxicated old woman at the desk. She was yelling at employees who seemed to me as being busy. She didn't know who we were even though she was the one I... More

You don't come to Bayfield to stay in your room. Apt advice! We stayed in the part of Gruenke's above the pizza parlor. Our room had it's own bathroom. Room was clean, funky, comfortable. That said, it looked out onto the garden area for Gruenke's (where the fish boils take place), so (1) things smelled a little fishy, but more... More

Truthfully, the hotel is a bit shabby but the people here make up for it. They were short staffed the day I arrived so I don't think my room got the cleaning it might have otherwise. Not a big problem though because I wasn't looking for 5 star luxury. If I have to choose, I much prefer nice people to... More

I wanted to get away for a bit, and I was told that Bayfield is a beautiful place to visit. So I booked a room at Greunke's Inn and headed up! I am soooo happy that I stayed there! The staff are absolutely wonderful, genuine people. Everyone made me feel so welcome. Location is great - just a short walk... More

We rolled into Bayfield for Labor Day weekend to find that the WHOLE town was full, no vacancies. We walked around to every single hotel/motel/inn looking for a room. Finally, we found Gruenke's. We spent 105.00 for two nights, and got the room on the spur of the moment on a holiday weekend, how lucky are we! The staff is... More

This place is so fun for a fish boil. They do it right outside their restaurant and you can stand around the fire and watch and have a refreshment or you can just wait for it to be done. Delicious whitefish, tasty coleslaw, red potatoes and melted butter, onions, marble rye bread and butter, and dessert served to you when... More

This was a first for us- a hotel room with a half bath- no shower (shared shower down the hall). It was a hell of a value compared to hotels in similar locations so we thought it was worth it. (Just FYI- I believe some of the rooms don't even have a half bath- so read room descriptions carefully if... More
