This has become our annual summer fishboil. It holds up every year to great standards with tasty whitefish, potatos, onions, cole slaw, bread, and raspberry shortcake dessert. The two who run the fishboil are also the waiters and are so hospitable moving as fast as they can to accomodate. Call ahead and put your name in for the night you want to... More

I visit the Bayfield / Apostle Islands area every summer and have for over 25 years now. I particularly enjoy my stay at Gruenke's. A historic building(s) built in the 1800's - it now features several lodging options - from complete rooms to sleeping rooms sharing bathrooms. Over the years I've stayed in all and have always been happy with... More

We stayed in Gruenke's one night, in room 3 - which is called the "cowboy room". It was very comfortable with a half bath. There was a shower available to us on the floor that others could use as well. This reminded me of a quaint B&B where the rooms seemed more like bedrooms, rather than hotel rooms. The price... More

Our group of 5 stayed here in June in 2 rooms. Some of us had stayed here about 10 years ago. If you like history and antiques, and a "shabby chic" decorating style, you will be comfortable here for a day or two. The decor is similar to a stay at your great-grandma's house. I personally would not stay for... More

I stayed here recently on a romantic getaway for a few days. We had a room over the pizza place, surprisingly it was still quiet and comfortable. This is a quaint and dated B&B, but still affordable, clean and cute. Judith is a wonderful hostess! This inn is definitely a historic piece in Bayfield, whether you enjoy just food or... More

Ate breakfast here. The food was good but it took a long time to arrive even though the place wasn't busy. The staff was friendly if slow. If you are in a hurry this probably isn't the place for you but if you don't mind chatting with local customers & waiting awhile, you will enjoy the quirky charm of this... More

Greunke’s First Street Inn is not your spot for an overnight business trip where you want a shower, a desk and good firm bed for a sound sleep and an early departure. It’s more of a local experience in which to immerse yourself. Built some 150 years ago (and, yes it shows) the Inn is part of Bayfield’s history and... More

The first time I tried to stay here, I arrived with the reservation I had made on the internet, and they had no record of it and were full. However, they called a condo development just outside of town and arranged for me to have a room there. I was disappointed that they didn't have a room for me, but... More

My wife and I drove to Bayfield to see the Apostle Island Ice Caves and do some cross country skiing. We chose Greunke's because they allowed us to take our dog. I don't think this was the main hotel. It was basically the existing remains of an old boarding house. Directly below our room was a pizza joint. It was... More

We stayed at Gruenke's during the Apple Festival. They were very accommodating and the staff was so friendly. Great location! Right in the middle of the festival and easy to get to local restaurants and bars. We will definitely stay again.
