Our room was small with old furniture but everything was clean. The staffs were O.K. The price is affordable considering that hotels are very expensive in San Francisco. The area is considered safe; we could easily walk at night to our hotel. Our biggest complain is that it is an old building with thin walls. During each night of our... More

Stayed here with my in-laws while touring San Francisco. It is an old hotel, but I sort of like that...Takes me back to the 1930's, especially after touring Alcatraz. It is literally right next to the entrance to China town which is great to begin your weekend of touring and there is a mini-mart across the street to grab a... More

On arrival the check-in was quick and the receptionist was welcoming. This hotel is very basic, the furniture are old and as for the TV it is very old fashion,. the bathroom was very basic, old fashion and not very clean. It was the cheapest hotel at the time in San Francisco. If you are looking for a cheap short... More

We went to the World Series 10/26/14 and needed a room. the bed was like sleeping on a rock and the floor would have been just as good (or bad). Service not great. For Wi-Fi you have to go to 2nd floor conference room to use internet. Rooms are small and a bit dirty. I really comes down to what... More

Hotel Astoria is a decent hotel when on a budget. It's immediately situated next to Chinatown. Is that a good thing? I'm not really sure, make of it what you will. The rooms are small but do have their own (very clean) bathroom. You're right above the noise of San Francisco so if you're a light sleeper, think again. The... More

We picked this place because we have limited budget for our month long vacation. So we lowered our expectations right from the start. However, despite of lowering our expectations, we were shock with the service and the state of the room. During registration, the lady at the reception threw a pen on the counter to fill up a form. That... More

As agreed by most, this is fantastic location you can easily locate it and I actually walked around to city hall, union square and other malls. Forget about huge luggage if you decide to go for this hotel as the lift is too old to handle the bulk and weight, I had to carry my 30kg++ luggage up 4 steep... More

Super central hotel, was clean but basic, which is exactly what we expected for the price we paid! Advertised as having wifi.... Not available in the rooms, just the lobby. The elevator didn't work in our whole 6 day, 6th floor stay, every day they said it would be fixed 'tomorrow'. Very peculiar smell to the place & we were... More

The good: -The price of this hotel for its location in San Fran is unbelievable - The Chinatown entrance is about 2 doors down. - 1 block away there is a bus that costs $2 that takes you down to fisherman's wharf. - You can walk easily to Union Square and the shopping mall. - The rooms were clean -... To find something in this central location at this price - you can't expect 4*. Our room was clean, comfortable though tired and we appreciated the 'eat as much as you like' breakfast for $4 - details listed by another reader so we didn't go out hungry. The Hop-on-hop-off bus stop is over the road. Though there were no tea/coffee... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
