I just can't get into San Francisco and no matter how many visits or where I stay, I don't like the city. So I was pleasantly surprised to stay at the W recently for work and enjoyed the proximity to a number of non-touristy areas, including the convention centre. It's close to some funky restaurants in walking distance, offers a... More

Trace, the restaurant at the W, is one of my all-time favorite lunch spots. The food is fabulous, particularly the classic cheese burger with fries (yum!) and the lamb pastrami. All of the wait staff are friendly and attentive but Damian is a standout. His food recommendations are always spot-on and his warm, friendly yet professional manner keep me returning... More

Stayed three nights here and fully enjoyed it! Great service and friendly staff always willing to assist with a smile. The location is awesome and the city Center within walking distance. I can warmly recommend the W as a great place to stay!

The restaurant at the W, Trace, is one of my absolutely favorite lunch choices. Great folks work there, my favorite being Damian. He makes lunch a special experience whether I am rushed or feeling leisurely. Trace has several dishes I love (classic burger, lamb pastrami, carrot cake, gnocchi with pork) and the bar is also great (and you can eat... More

It was my first time having lunch at the Trace and it was great! My waiter, Damian, was friendly, welcoming, and courteous. He recommend that I try the chicken sandwich and I loved it! definitely recommend this place for the food and service.

Overall, the hotel is very clean and in a good location in the center of town. It is an easy walk to the bay, museums, and several nice restaurants. I was disappointed that there was no WiFi, but there is a Starbucks nearby that offers free WiFi so I was able to get my work done. I forgot my laptop... More

The hotel chain boasts itself as a hip hotel destination however it is a bit dated destination. The hotels appearance is very dated and the bar area is also very run down and not appealing at all except at late night when it's dark and packed. The room also needs some updating as well, iPhone 5 came out over year... More

I stayed at the W because I was in San Francisco for a conference, and this was listed as a nearby hotel. The hotel started off on a bad note when I entered, and the lobby is essentially a night club. That night club feeling never ended, not in the elevator, not in the hallways, not in the room. It... Wish I could give this place 0 stars, but the review system requires 1 star. This place is not even worth my time so I'll cut to the chase. You want a Wi-Fi connection? Pay $14.95 or $19.95 for a Wi-Fi "package". Want a room? Well don't make a reservation here. They sold our room as they "sometimes oversell the... More

Another great stay for a business trip. Nice spacious rooms. Only complaints are that the hotel had run out of umbrellas during a week when it was raining every day, plus the printers on the second floor were both out of service. The staff was helpful and printed some files I needed printed. Would definitely stay again during my next... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
