Stayed during the week of Sept 22. The room was a bit larger than a jail cell at Alcatraz. No ventilation only a ceiling fan. The room was facing an alley so the window had to be kept shut. Because it is the heart of a busy area you can hear the police car sirens at all hours of the... more

We stayed here from Sept 17th-20th. First when we checked in… we checked into one of the “Petite” rooms... All I can say is the room is about the same size as a jail cell or perhaps better yet a closet... It was sooo small that my luggage wouldn’t fit around the sides of the bed. To make matters worse... more

Family of 4 (ch. 11 & 9) spent 4 nights here and from the moment we checked in the stay was wonderful. Front Desk staff and Concierge were very helpful. Our Rm308 Deluxe Dbl Dbl was located on Ellis St side with views of cable car. The hotel intself has been extensively renovated, very modern inside with charming facade. It... more

After attending a wedding in Saratoga at the Villa Moltalvo, our family's next day in San Francisco was marvelous. Our room was so beautiful, service very warm, friendly and professional. We particulary want to compliment the front desk staff - they gave us an enthusiastic welcome and made us feel they were happy to have us stay at the hotel.... more

My problems with this place are mainly that it was old and the rooms were tiny. Even though we did not have a room facing the street, it was very loud at night. Common areas: They smelled kinda foul, like the carpets needed cleaning. The morning coffee was icky. The room: It was very tiny - imagine a 10 ft.... more

First, I would like to note that I do not complain about minor details with a hotel (bellman slow picking up bags, etc.) but this I can say was the worst stay at a hotel in my life and a total ripoff. When I arrived at the hotel, wearing a sweater because it was 50 degrees outside, around 10 pm... more

I checked the website for rates and found them reasonable for the location. Now, I asked for a room with a view of union square. The view was great and I could hear street performers from my room on the fourth floor, which I liked but the noise at all hours of the day might not be for everyone. Rooms... more

The Hotel Union Square offers many perks: windows that open, free phone calls, free internet access, free newspapers, free morning coffee, and free California wines at afternoon happy hour. Its unadvertised and better-kept secrets include regular cable car runs and a constantly surging sea of world travelers viewed from its second floor windows. The chaos generates many gem-like surprises, such... more
