This is a good, no-frills accommodation in the heart of San Fran. Only a 10 minute walk to Union Square and close by shops and bars, and in a safe area. Rooms not quite as flashy as shown in pictures, but were clean and big enough for two. Full sized fridge and stove top useful for those looking to save... More

We stayed here for five nights. We arrived at around 3pm in the afternoon and there was no one at the front desk. There was another gentleman waiting to check in as well. He had been waiting 10 minutes before we got there. We called the hotel and recieved no answer, we then called the main office and they were... More

Stay here at your own risk. We arrived it was 3 o’clock in the afternoon. The front door of the hotel was locked . It took 10 minutes t raise anyone. We had 2 rooms. 1 one bedoom & 1 studio deluxe. In both case the word deluxe must be used ironically. 30 years ago things may have been new.... More

The Steinhart is more an appartment hotel that a "typical" hotel (no bar or restaurant). It's located in an old historic building in walking distance to the financial district. If you are travelling with kids there is not much to see nearby (e.g. no playground, need to take a bus to most of the attractions). We stayed in an one... More

Good location about 40 mins to the pier about 10 mins to union square i would recommend to anyone who like their food head down to pier one great market style places. The... More

I've been in San Francisco for the last couple of weeks by myself and knew when I was searching for a place to stay that I wanted to feel "at home" for such a long stint in the city. Normal hotels just don't provide that vibe and the Steinhart was the perfect place for my trip. I stayed in a... More

We recently spent 11 days at the Steinhart and really enjoyed our stay there. It is great to be able to do some cooking for yourself, if you want to, and to get the feel of being a SF resident. The hotel is historic. This means old. Mostly this is a good thing, if you like your accommodation to have... More

You get a pretty good ides from the reviews here that The Steinhart is indeed authentic and full of character, but there is a price to pay for those features. We had a one bedroom apartment which was pretty dark and looked out onto a wall, so you feel somewhat disinclined to spend too long in the apartment on sunny... More

My wife and I spent 5 nights in San Francisco and stayed at the Steinhart throughout. I initially booked it on the basis of value (Sterling was much weaker against the dollar than it is today so accommodation was expensive). The hotel is in good condition and has a lot of character. We had a deluxe studio, which was spacious... More

This little hotel on the fringes of the Tenderloin is a residential hotel meaning it has no amenities such as room service and limited hours on the reception desk (it is not staffed between 11pm and 9am). There is also no air conditioning at all in the hotel. It has had an update but be aware it is only the... More
