I stayed at the Steinhart while traveling for work, and it was just fine for what I needed. It is vintage, and definitely could use some updates. However, it is quiet and has modern TVs and appliances in the kitchen. The front desk staff is very nice. However, they are only here from 8-5 each day, so if you're looking... More

Loved this darling apartment/hotel in San francisco- great place to stay especially if you are in the city for an extended period of time. Front desk service is always helpful, and available 24/7. Wifi is fast, good space within the hotel (I stayed in the one bedroom apartment/hotel), with appliances that make u feel right at home, plus there is... More

Reason for Travel- Roadtrip Holiday with Partner Location - A very short walk away from Union square which contains some lovely restaurants and is pretty much a hub for all things tourist. For Fisherman's Wharf i recommend getting the tour bus tickets for a day from union square (Big Bus etc) to get over there as the direct walk required... More

I stayed in this hotel for a couple of weeks while my wife was working in SF. If you're looking for a modern hotel, this is not it. If you're looking for something with character, definitely check this one out. The elevator alone, as noted in other reviews here, is a classic, with the old-style metal folding gate. The room... The place is not all bad, however, i had a couple of disappointing incidents in a one night stay which will not make me return again. The room i ended up in looked nothing like the pictures they have (including the one up here) and didnt even look like it was in the same hotel all together. I ended up... More

Quite a shock when I first arrived as I had not booked the hotel and expected a "boring modern hotel". This is no such thing. The apartment-style rooms were reasonably spacious, with a complete kitchen including oven, microwave, toaster and dishwasher. The bed folds up into a cupboard in the wall, and the (modern) TV was in a beautiful old... More

I'm a 27 year old women who travels often to San Francisco for work and I test out a new hotel every time I go. The Steinhart is by far the best quality and quantity for your money. Disclaimer: know that every hotel under 5 star in SF is old, outdated, tiny and not sound proof. This really surprised me... More

A beautiful old building with loads of period charm. We spent 6 days here in a large roomy apartment with a full kitchen. We did not want to eat out all the time, so the kitchen was great. Not only was the kitchen fully equipped, but they supplied dishwasher powder, dishwashing liquid etc - instead of us having to buy... More

There is a very thin red line between "vintage" and "old and dilapidated". The Steinhart dangerously navigates between both sides.. Reception experience was good. I was given a key and explained the rules, which are simple enough. The elevator is outright dangerous. I am surprise this is up to par with California code, but it must have been classified as... The Steinhart is an older hotel, so some of the amenities are a bit old fashioned - like the old-style manual lift - but we found it charming! We had a one bedroom apartment on the 4th floor with a murphy bed in the living room. The apartment was huge! The bedroom was very comfortable and so was the murphy... More
