This is a remarkable building on top of Nob Hill with breathtaking views of this great city. This building is all about history and the brand Fairmont is all about class. We had two bad experiences here but I will have just put them down as bad luck. If you have the money you should try and take in this... More

I've stayed at a lot of great hotels. This one is tops. The staff, the hotel itself, the guest rooms, the location on Nob Hill with the awesome views simply make it the best. The staff always make me feel welcome and special. The amenities are first-rate.

Walking into this hotel is like stepping back in time. It has a grand lobby and hallways of pictures of the hotel and San Francisco's history. We stayed for 3 nights here at the end of our mini-mooon and were really impressed with the hotel. Our room was an end unit that had 2 walls that were completely floor to... More

The Fairmont San francisco is just one of those reasons one visits SF. Located on Knob Hill and one of the few long standing hotels that set SF apart. Completely renovated and the rooms are now a beautiful looking contemporary look, and the lobby has maintained its grandiose look of the past. Service great, wonderful location right on the cable... Was here about 7 years ago and it was really good, but now, after a renovation, it is GREAT! Rooms were clean and spacious, lobby elegant and gorgeous and the staff very helpful, especially the concierges. Highly recommend staying at this classy, elegant hotel on top of the hill.

The hotel is very nice and well maintained. Certainly the old world charm of this place can not be overlooked. We were in the main portion of the hotel, not the tower and the room was very nice and the walk in closet was great so I could get dressed for work while my wife slept in. Odd numbers in... More

From the second we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed warmly by the reception staff. Through a good friend we managed to get a very good rate on one of the top rooms in the tower section of the hotel right at the top. Once getting into the room the view from the two different windows was amazing. The... More

a wonderful hotel in a good (but hilly) location, staff really friendly & go out their way to be helpful. while there join their free presidents club to get extra benefits, we had a lovely spacious room with a great room of the bay & Alcatraz , if returning to San Francisco would definatley pay that little extra for the... Certainly a top contender, but elegant and classical, Positioned at the top of Nob Hill it is the flagship of the ultra luxury chain that took its name. Everything here is first class and beautiful. Every major San Francisco landmark and attraction are a cable car (which passes by) ride away.

I wanted to stay in the Fairmont because of it is a well know and a historic hotel in San Francisco. It also is a beautiful building (and has a great lobby). We checked in Friday August 21st for a one night stay before an early flight back home (end of the vacation). The hotel (from the outside) is the... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
