We chose the Fairmont to be away from the hustle and bustle, pamper ourselves and to enjoy the historic elegance. We are a couple in our early 30's and we found the hotel to be swanky without being stuffy. I got a big kick out of the classical pianist in the lobby dining room that played Metallica's Enter Sandman and... More

I have stayed here 10+ times over the last five years, and the recent upgrade of the rooms makes a huge difference. I stayed in room 1901 in the tower, the room was recently upgraded. Very comfortable. The hallways are also updated, which are nice. Now they just need to work on the elevators and some of the lobby areas,... More

The room was beautiful and so was our view. Slept very well here and the service was wonderful. Love the Fairmont. I've attached pics from our room. The one thing I didn't like about San Fran were the streets, felt like I was on a roller coaster - lol!

The reception gives this hotel the WOW factor. Marble stair cases and gilt. We arrived just before the Xmas decorations came down, which showcased a two storey gingerbread house of real gingerbread and a huge trimmed tree. The rooms were of a very good size for a historic hotel and our views looked out over the surrounding Nob Hill architecture.... More

Thank you for your kind words about the hotel. As you mentioned, our lobby is quite grand and a true example of "they don't make them like they used to". I'm pleased you were able to visit during the holidays, as they are a truly special time at the hotel. Thanks again for your kind words and we hope to... More

This hotel exudes luxury. Attention is paid to even the smallest detail and checking in is actually a pleasure. Once in one of the gorgeously renovated rooms you will be blown away but the glorious sound of NOTHING. It's rare to be in a hotel in such a large city and not get noise from other guests, or even excessive... More

We stayed here after flying in from Boston on the way to Napa. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The check in/out process was a breeze. FYI, Nob Hill is quite steep if you're not ready for the SF terrain. After walking down to the market area with a baby/stroller we caught a bus back up. Make sure to... More

I'm pleased to hear you were able to visit en route to Napa, as I'm sure it was a welcome introduction to Northern California leaving the East Coast Winter. Wonderful Fairmont service. Once again, Fairmont lived up to its reputation. My husband and I went to visit my daughter and would stay again! The staff is friendly and always willing to help. Our room was wonderful, but no view and noisy neighbors. The bed was so comfortable my husband and I slept like babies anyway. The Tonga Room is... More

Just stayed at the Fairmont for a birthday celebration. We had a corner room with a spectacular view of the Bay Bridge! Coit Tower, Chinatown and downtown SF. The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfy.

Stayed here recently on business. It's a lovely old hotel; a bit gaudy for my personal taste -- in fact, very Gilded Age, in the Mark Twain sense of the word (emphasis on gilded, and 'all that glitters is not gold') -- but with the old-fashioned historical surroundings come old-fashioned top-rate service and very polite and efficient staff. I would... More

A first trip to San Fran for a conference. The hotel and the staff made it one of the most special trips I have taken. The conference space was comfortable an the rooms were clean, spacious and offered beautiful views of the city. I would definitely stay here again!

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
