Our three night stay at the Donatello was great. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. The people behind the desk were helpful and informative. The location is great....we walked all over...to the whalf (around 40minutes), China Town (5 minutes), Italian District,(15-20 minutes), Union Square,(one minute) etc. Also near public transportation for those who rather ride. We would go back... More

I did alot of research about the downtown area and friends told me about the Union Square area. We didn't want to pay $300 per night for a room and found this gem online! GREAT roomy rooms, awesome staff and perfect location were just perfect. This is one block off the main square so it was perfect for hopping on... More

As we are accustomed to East Coast hotel prices, we were suspicious that somehow the $111 per night deal we got through Venere.com would not be honored by the hotel, considering the quality of this hotel. You can hardly get a bed in a shared room at the YMCA in Manhattan for that price. However, we were charged exactly the... More

I was skeptical. A downtown San Francisco room rate, including parking, for $145. Was this going to be a deal or a dive. It was a fantastic deal. With nearby Union Square five star hotels towering over us, I was pleasantly surprised that the Donatello Hotel has its own underground parking garage (enter on Post St.). This equates to fast... We always stay at the Donatello when we can get away to San Francisco. The staff are always so pleasant, friendly and helpful. Parking is right on the premises unlike some other small downtown hotels. Sometimes they have specials where they include the parking. Again, this is something to inquire about when booking a Union Square hotel. The location is... More

I stayed here for only one night, but will be staying here on my next trip to San Francisco. The staff was very friendly. Chuck the concierge was very knowledgable on the area and can help with setting up wine tours, restaurant reservations and more. He actually recommended a great chinese restaurant that delivers ( Was too tired from walking... More

I can't say enough wonderful things about this fabulous hotel. We are Shell Vacation club members and booked our stay through their reservation service. The hotel is one or two blocks away from everything: Union Square, cable cars, public transit, shopping, fine dining and family restaurants, We had a car and used their valet service. We never waited more than... More

The donatello was a great hotel right in the heart of San Francisco, just a block from Union square, and 3 blocks from the very busy Powell street public transportation stop that includes BART, Muni, Cabel Cable Cars, and the F-line stop. The hotel is a small boutique with the service of a 4 star hotel. My wife and I... More

Stayed 5 nights over 4th of July weekend on vacation. Great location! Friendly staff. Big clean rooms. The only possible negative point was that the shower heads were about 5 ft. high. But even that is stretching. I highly recommend this hotel. Would definitely stay here again when I visit SF.

To begin, I thought The Donatello was an excellent value. The room was huge and nicely appointed. However, it was clear that the hotel (at least our room) had seen better days. The mattress was well past the point of needing replacement. While most of the room was nice and clean, the tub was quite grimy and looked like it... More
