We made our reservation here based upon a special given to Kimpton rewards members. We usually stay at the Argonaut on Fisherman's wharf. Check in was a breeze - the front desk staff was efficient and the doorman was great - as expected based upon our experience with Kimpton hotels. The room was very small - no dresser - so... more

I have travelled extensively both in Canada and the United States and a bit in Europe as well and although I have stayed in nicer hotels (and certainly far worse) I have never stayed in a hotel with nicer staff than the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. They were extremely friendly and most helpful with whatever request we had. Their recommendations... more

We stayed at the Sir Francis Drake for one week with a 4 year old and a 5 year old in mid June. The first thing that struck us was how friendly the staff were. This is the strongest point of the hotel. The rooms are tiny - the bathroom is so small that they can only place a soap... more

Dear megey, I'm glad that you found the staff friendly here at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. I am vey happy with the fact that the staff take great pride in working at the Drake providing a memorable experience for our guests. As you noted, the size of a room in a vintage hotel needs to be considered when making...

Location, location, location is what it's all about. Great upscale shopping steps away and within walking distance to China Town. Hotel room was nice. If your looking for new I would look elsewhere. We had an executive suite ....well worth it for the price as the average rooms are small. The bathroom leaves a lot to be desired as it... more

Thank you 19Trey74, for reviewing the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. You bring up a good point with respect to parking a car. If you are renting a car, consider renting one for the dates that you need it only. As you pointed out, we are centrally located and it's easy to get to almost anything you want by walking or...

I travelled with my husband to San Fran for business and leisure and we stayed at the Drake. The room we got was one of the smaller rooms, but I honestly did not mind. It was cosy and if anyone has stayed in hotels in NYC, they are very similar. I mean really at the end of the day, you... more

Thank you stb3Toronto for a very informative and useful review of our hotel. The staff and I are pleased that you put such thought into reviewing the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Rice a Roni! Exactly what I think of as well :) I'm sorry about the AC in initial room. I'm glad that we were able to move you to...

Hotel is right in the heart of the everything! No need for a rental car. We arrived early (10:30am) and our room was ready. WOW! The front desk service was exceptional. We were looking for a comfortable room, and that is exactly what we got. This establishment is a very old building, so don't expect updated rooms. No frills. Our... more

The plus: location right in the center of SF, cable car in front of the hotel, old world charm beautiful entrance and lobby. Drawback: the noise ! Be sure to ask for a room on the back side (not on Powell street). The hotel is old and the windows are badly isolated. The cable cars on Powell street make a... more

Dear readers, it is true that the Sir Francis Drake is a vintage hotel that embodies old world charm. It is situated only one block from Union Square close to most everything that one needs for a visit to the City by the Bay. The historic nature and designation of this hotel requires that the building be kept as close...

My husband and I recently booked a Friday night at the Sir Francis Drake through Hotwire. Admittedly, Hotwire can be a gamble, but the 3.5 star rating assured us that the hotel would be decent at the very least. I loved the location of this hotel and I'd often walked by the impressive exterior so I was excited for our... more

This has to be one of the noisiest hotels I have stayed in. Single glazed sash windows that didn't close properly = police sirens all night long. If you stay here take ear plugs. Bathroom is the smallest I have seen in any hotel - If I had swung a cat it would have no head. The staff were helpful... more

My husband and I stayed at the Sir Francis Drake from 5/24 through 5/28. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, so we ate lunch next door at Scala's (great food, but pricey) and returned to the front desk after 1.5 hours. Our room was still not availalbe, so we did... more
