We stayed at the Sir Franis Drake for 5 or 6 nights back in May. It was my first time to San Francisco and I fell in love with this mystical city. Everything about this hotel was the essential San Francisco experience. It is a perfect location with a significant amount of history in the building. The famous SF street... More

We spent 6 days in this Hotel. First three days we had a very small room on the 8th Floor. For three adults a real threat. The room was clean and good maintained. Fortunately we were allowed to use a bigger room from the 4th day. The personnel is really very polite and allways willing to help. Especially one Person,... More

Excellent location. 20 minute walk to Chinatown & North Beach (Little Italy). Nice rooms, very comfortable beds, although bathrooms are a bit small (but then it is San Francisco). Staff is polite & helpful; very knowledgable of places to see & places to eat. Will definitely consider staying here again on my next visit.

Used priceline for this hotel so turned out to be a decent deal. Agree with some of the others-weird smell, but only from the bathroom. So must be a cleaning product that is used? Otherwise, the room is spacious and the bed was comfortable(a little of the soft side). There's only valet parking which is pricey but there is no... More

We stayed for five nights, family of four. Location perfect to see all we needed to see, you may prefer to be closer to the wharf but we liked the variation and the hop on/off bus tour provided easy links across town. The two boys (19 and 10) shared a bed and on arrival we were disappointed with the size... More

Dear pushnglide, Thank you for a wonderful review. We always aim to make the best out of 'not-so-best' situation; we are glad that we found you a bigger room! Hopefully, your 2 children were happy, too. Please know that our parking operations is managed by a parking vendor who operates at similar hotels in the same area and charges about... More

Stayed here one night with my husband for a quick get away. Good central location for exploring the city by foot. Close to sights, stores and restaurants. The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathroom size was average and clean. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Feels like a city boutique style hotel.

A friend and I stayed here during our time in San Francisco. It was an excellent location, just off of Union Square and a short walk to the waterfront. The room was nice and had everything we required, although the bathroom was quite small. In terms of food, the restaurant adjoining the hotel wasn't the best, however there are plenty... More

Dear Ash10592, I hope you had a fun visit with your friend! Our location is very central, a 1/2 block to Union Square and surrounded by world-class shopping and dining, not to mention the famous cable cars run along the street right in front of our eyes. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy Scala's restaurant, but Starlight does... More

I recently stayed at the Sir Francis Drake for a business trip. I booked it on Priceline as a 4 star express deal. I requested and paid for 2 beds, as I was traveling with a coworker. When we arrived we were taken aback by the terrible smell of stale smoke and what I can only describe as old cooking... More

Dear jlmeyer9, First off, I appreciate your comment. I am sorry to hear that your experience wasn't what you expected. Please know that as part of the hotel maintenance, we conduct what we call 'grease trap' to extract all used oil from our restaurant/kitchen. Unfortunately, there was an accident during this process; thus the smell had gone up to our... More

This hotel was very nicely appointed and the staff made me feel like a celebrity. Although a little pricy you do get free Wifi and some other amenities that you will not find at other hotels. It has the trendy feel of a Kimpton and we will recommend to others.

Dear Frampton P, It'll make at least 2 of us who love this hotel! It is a 1928 historic building that went through a renovation in 2011 to add few modern amenities, but we definitely wanted to keep the 'old-world' charm. Please know that you can often find a good deal on our web site so hopefully you'll visit us... More

Large hotel. Some furnishing a bit tired. Room was adequate size although not large. Thin walls. Free wine reception each early evening was good. Limited choice breakfast on inclusive deal, which was fine; no buffet style.

Dear DavJo12, Thank you for staying with us. The Drake is a 1928 historic building that houses 416 rooms. Very typical of the 20's building, the rooms vary in so many different sizes. Some are cozier whilst others can accommodate a family. Our wine-hour is very popular and hopefully you enjoyed meeting other hotel guests as well as our managers.... More
