i like Klimton hotels and looked forward to visiting the historic Sir Francis Drake. Like many older hotels the rooms are smallish, but they have been nicely updated and are quite charming. The downsides were the worn out towels, which certainly didn't fit with the rating or price of the hotel, plus the shower was either dirty, mildewy, or had... More

This is a really good hotel. Everything is above par... except for one crucial thing. It is slightly smelly. It smells like cigarette smoke in the lobby. The room is big and very nice. The food is very good. Also, the location is absolutely wonderful.

The hotel is conveniently located near Union Square and plenty of high end shopping if you like that. The convention center is about a 20-25 minute walk downhill to the Moscone buildings. Under Union Square is a parking garage (pay before you exit). Outside the hotel is the Powell cable car stop and a Walgreen's is across the street. The... More

Just been to this hotel, very good centrally located on powell street. around the corner to union square, rooms clean beds comfortable bathroom a little small no shelves to put your toiletries on things kept falling off sink to floor, and not enough coat hangers in wardrobe, but apart from that we were very happy with the hotel, we were... From the outside of the hotel you see a marquis like at a theater and standing below is the doorman dressed in period wear. The doormen were super friendly and knowledgable, ask them where something is or where you should go and they have the answer. The lobby is like walking into a museum it's just gorgeous. The elaborate staircase,... More

I travel to San Francisco frequently on business because my corporate headquarters is located there, so I've had an opportunity to stay at many different nearby hotels. I ended up at the Sir Francis Drake because the room was less expensive than my usual hotel and my limited budget required me to save a few dollars. Savings aside, I was... More

Pros: The hotel is located centrally in Union Square. Everything is within walking distance -even the Westfield Mall. The doormen in costume were memorable, friendly, and consistent with the Sir Francis Drake theme that continues onto the grand hotel lobby. They also offer complimentary items (like curling irons upon request), which was a nice touch. Cons: As other reviewers have... More

We arrived at the Drake after a long overnight flight and lost luggage to a quaint room in a great location close to Union Square. The rooms are a little small but clean with unique period furniture. After a good night's sleep in a comfy king size bed, Michael, the Concierge, was very helpful with sightseeing suggestions. We caught the... More

We have enjoyed our 4 nights stay here. The hotel is very good, friendly staff, clean, kind of old style. The rooms are not too big- for the two queen room there was not too much space, but it was ok. Everything is clean, but looks kind of worn out. Air conditioner did not work in our room - it... More

The Sir Francis Drake is a lovely boutique hotel on Union Square. I arrived on a Friday morning and opted for valet parking; the fee was a little high ($64 per night), but it was a fee I was willing to pay for the convenience of not having to find parking on my own. My room wasn't ready when I... More
