Super location. Buses outside the door or on the next block to bring you wherever you need to go for 2.25. Lots of good restaurants and bars in the area. Hotel clean. Staff friendly. Only downside is breakfast - it is fine for one morning but if you are staying more than that you may just make use of the... More

The Opal hotel is a nice hotel in a central location with the possibility to walk or take a bus to all the interesting places in the town. The room is large enough for 4 persons and the cleaning is at an ok level. The breakfast is continental and the space reserved for it is to small. The people in... More

Not a great part if town, not horrible though. Old hotel, rooms are ok, but outdated. Free breakfast is bagels and bread, nothing to write home about. Price was good for the city. Certainly not a typical hilton or Marriott type, but clean and within walking distance of most things downtown, although u have to walk thru some rough areas... More

Was there last year on a business trip. Happens to be at the Oracle's convention weekend so no single room was available anywhere else at the Saturday`s morning. I got used to Hyatt and Westin kinds of hotels but none of them were available. Opal is not a Westin but I wasn't disappointed. Price included continental breakfast which was a... More

My wife and I stayed at the Opal with no prior knowledge of SF and its attraction locations, we were happy we chose the Opal, as it is truly centrally located to all of the places one would like to see. Very close to the bus and cable car lines and Mel's Diner being the go to restaurant right through... More

I stayed the Opal while visiting a dear friend for 5 nights. I selected the hotel based on its proximity to where the friend lived. I thought it was a very good tourist grade hotel. Not a lot a frills, but the room was comfortable and clean. I also thought the cleaning staff did a great job. I always came... More

This hotel was perfect if you plan to attend the San Francisco Opera or Symphony. It's also a short walk to the Asian Art Museum and the public library. Bus connections to the De Young Museum and the Legion of Honor Museum were very nearby. The diner next door is also good.

The relatively short, uphill walk from the BART to the Opal was interesting and a good introduction to all aspects and spectrums of SF. The locked front security doors at the hotel were initially concerning but nonetheless comforting as the area is lively at night. While we wanted to stay closer to Union Sq., the Opal ended up being in... More

Family of 5 - we stayed here for 2 days. Ok location but not the most central one. Had to take taxi or bus to/from downtown centre to the hotel. Next time we would stay closer to the fisherman Wharf. Hotel not the most modern but nice and clean. Simple breakfast, good enough for us but busy and difficult to... More

The room included two queen beds and a sofa bed. It was perfect for three adults. The staff was very accommodating and the location was centrally located. Having Mel's Diner off the lobby was very nice.
