Make no mistake, this is a very tired property. The only reason we were forced to take stay at this hotel is the airline cancelled our planned PM flight out of SFO one week before our arrival. The hotel we had booked for this first part of our stay, The Donatello, was unable to extend our stay so we moved... More

The hotel was located on a very busy street in SF. The service was average. The room was rather small. There were no fridge nor microwave. We stayed on the 3rd floor and the street noise can be heard during the night. However, it is one of the cheaper hotels we can find over that weekend, so can't complain. The... More

The faded glory of what used to be a decent hotel is not enough to make up for the lack of amenities and run-down facilities. Unless you are deaf, the noise of the running water in a utilities column positioned in a corner of the room will keep you awake. The breakfast area looks and feels like feeding time at... More

The Opal was the hotel used by myself and two of my friends during the New Year's week. We had chosen this hotel mainly because of the central location to some music venues we were going to see concerts at (Great American Music Hall, Bill Graham Civic). Because there were three of us we booked the junior suite. The room... More

I don't understand what everyone is complaining about. After reading all thr reviews I was expecting the worst. But I loved the hotel. The receptionists are very nice and helpful! Every wed they have free wine cheese tasting in the lobby. The breakfast is the same every morning but it's not bad at all: eggs, 3 types of muffins, toasts... More

We planned a trip for the Steeler/49er game in Dec. with my daughter's in-laws to be. We picked The Opal and got the thumbs up from friends who live in San Fran. We were all VERY HAPPY with our stay at The Opal. The breakfast was enough, but if you prefer a bigger breakfast there are great walking restaurant choices... More

Came to SF with some friends and was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Located on the corner of Geary & Van Ness, with Mel's Diner attached & Tommy's Joint right across the street, so you have immediate access to food & alcohol. And if you like walking you can walk to Japan Center & Civic Center. Paid under $100 for... More

The staff at the Opal were very professional, courteous and also managed to be exceptionally approachable and friendly all in one fell swoop. It was a pleasure to meet and talk with Angela, Carlo, Brad, and all the others whose names are not mentioned. We were upgraded to a king size bed and this was at the end of a... More

Cool hotel. Central location. Even has a Mel's diner attached. The room was small but nice, bathroom worked properly, parking was fairly easy. But I got NO sleep. Oh my god, the locks on the doors are INSANE. When you put your key in, the lock emits a loud, high-pitched beep. Then there's a clunk as the lock disengages. Another... More

Decided to take a last minute "day trip" to San Francisco, so we booked this hotel through travelocity, as rooms were going quick in town right before New Year's Eve. The photos of the property made the hotel look as if it were a quaint but elegant antique SF hotel. When we arrived, there was little to no "check-in" parking... More
