located a cab ride away from the main attractions of SF, it's a three star hotel with friendly staff. Tidy small rooms and ensuite. Expensive for location and size / quality of room with stained carpets. Don't be too dissapointed with the simple breakfast with jam, bread / toast, bagel. Nice diner next door, where we went for brunch!

If you are looking for a place to basically only sleep and shower this hotel would be a great choice. Have a great location to all the bars @ Polk st. The only issue is its rate... It's overrated but there is nothing to do with it, as all of the SF hotels are ridiculously over priced. On the main... More

The hotel is old but very clean and the staff friendly. It was very busy when we were there, understandable since it was the most 'reasonable' ( nothing in SF is really reasonable) in the hotel class we were looking for. Room was overlooking a busy road so there was traffic noise. Comfortable large bed. Small room with no fridge.... More

Firstly I'd like to say the hotel is very clean and efficient and good value for the money. It is unfair to comment that there are weirdos hanging around outside this hotel like others have commented, as this is a problem the city has as a whole. I never saw anyone hanging around the hotel, but I was surprised and... More

this hotel was quite a good hotel, it has a vintage look about it. I found the rooms were clean and the large bed was extremely comfortable, was fairly quiet too, not too much street noise or noise from other guests Staff were friendly and helpful. The area though is a little rough, and I really wouldn't recommend walking alone... More

We are budget travelers and The Opal had a very reasonable rate for San Francisco. (All the hostels seemed to be booked) Breakfast was included, everything was clean and comfortable, and ask the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bus stop is right on the corner. Chinatown, and more are within reasonable walking distance (for us). Do yourself a... More

Room is fine size, bathroom a little cramped. the reception staff was quite pleasant and most helpful with all of our needs. The continental breakfast was completely adequate and still had plenty of food before closing for the morning. Would stay here again for the price and location.

We arrived and check in was a breeze. We paid the hotel around $25.00 to park in their secured parking garage .It has full locked gate to prevent any break in into your vehicle. We took a taxi to and back from ATT Park and the cost was around $10.00 each way Room was very small but very cozy. with... More

I used to live in SF but it has gotten very expensive. Whenever I come to the Opal I can get affordable rooms in advance. The staff remembers me and the parking is so great and convenient. The upgraded rooms are nice but I do miss the bathtubs. There is strong wifi ;)

This hotel. Presents itself online as opulent and smart. It is neither. It's old, tired and shabby. The room was large and clean and the tv worked. Bathroom had plenty of hot water. It's fairly central but it's not a nice part of town. If there's nowhere else it will do but it isn't a destination stop.

Dear GirlGuideHouston, I sincerely regret that you did not fully enjoy your stay with us. But I do appreciate and thank you for your honest feedback. Although we are clearly not a modern hotel, our guestrooms are mostly spacious & comfortable, kept very neat & clean, and our overall facility is well maintained. Above all our hotel team prides itself... More
