My husband and I stayed at the Opal for 3 nights. We had a fantastic time in this city. One of the reasons our experience was so good was due to the expert advice from Ofelia who is very knowledgeable about San Francisco's attractions, restaurants and best tours. It was our 30th wedding anniversary and it was made memorable by... More

The Opal was OK - Was here for 8 nights for vacation - Room was clean service was good - Room rate was good when you consider room rates in San Fran - The location of the hotel to attractions was great but, the area around the hotel is just SO-SO! - Homeless in San Fran is horrible and the... More

Our family of four spent two nights here. On the positive side, rooms and hotel are clean, beds comfortable, central location great for public transportation. It's a short walk tio the California cable car line, twenty minute bus ride to Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square, Pacific Heights. On the negative side, the neighborhood is borderline, the breakfast is minimal, bathrooms had... More

My stay was in March 2014 - for two nights. While our group would have like rooms at least on the same floor, we were happy with the rooms. Clean, although tight quarters for three women in each room. We made do with it. The rooms were a little dated, but definitely not a "chain" hotel. Location was good -... More

Very reasonable place to stay location and price wise. Easy to walk to where you need to go. Found room cleaning service to be of the highest standard, our bathroom floor was actually vacuumed daily... They have an area for smokers in the back court yard away from front entrance. The staff were very helpful and informative. Mid week they... More

We got a reasonable deal, but paid more than other cities during our holiday for a lot less. The rooms were spotless, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The entrance still shows the impressive signs of a bygone era, But the rooms are tired and lack fridges, coffee making facilities etc. However the bedding was clean and we were... More

Spent 2 nights at this hotel. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom clean. There was free wifi but the signal was weak in our room. The hotel is located near Union Square, just about a 20 minute walk. However, it is located at the dangerous Tendeloin area of San Francisco. The surrounding streets were smelly and dirty, and there... More

I spent 4 nights here and it was a pretty decent stay albeit kind of pricey. But based on other reviews I've read about SF, the rates seemed par for the course. My biggest complaint was the smell in the hallways. It smelled like a hotel that just recently instituted a non-smoking ban. I don't really know what it was... More

Dear Edgar312, Thank you for your review! We have not heard many complaints about the smell in our hallways, but we will investigate and see if any of the housekeeping chemicals we use are too harsh. Thank you for your feedback, and we are glad that our service exceeded your expectations. We look forward to your next visit to The... More

The hotel is located in the heart of the city, so it was easy for us to travel to various downtown attractions with buses and cable cars. The older gentleman that checked us in was super nice! He gave us a larger suite (free upgrade, woohoo!). I'm not sure about the other rooms, but this one had really high ceilings.... More

During our recent trip, I ran the San Francisco Marathon. Our first few nights in SF, we paid the big bucks to stay at the Hyatt Embarcadero so I would be close to the start/finish line. Our stay at the Hyatt was not perfect . . . it was expensive, very noisy, and the area was of course touristy. The... More
