My husband and I stayed here due to the location and price. Surprisingly this hotel and our room was clean! We even pulled the sheets off the bed to check the mattress and examined it for any signs of stains or bugs. The bathroom was small but had a nice shower. We requested a room with a tub like many... Location: Terrible at night. Some nice small restaurants near by but the walk is a bit dangerous if alone. Close to Fishermans Warf and the beach. Room: Similar to a low end motel 6. Old furniture and bedding. Nothing special about the room just a bed. Staff: A bit rude and unpleasant.

The rooms are ideal & the reception is perfect! I just reached at San Francisco for congress with mistaken reservation for one month before at hotel Fusion! However the lady at reception of Opal was very kind & cooperative: she just explained everything and let me see room before reservation! They propose the best Bus tour, the breakfast is great... With Orbitz our cost per night (including taxes & fees) was under $95 & free continental breakfast (fruit, HB eggs, Eng muffins, toast, juice, 24/7 coffee.) Van Ness and Geary perfect location for exploring SF by foot and muni/Bart (senior clipper card allows $0.75 rides good for 90 min.) Our room #305 quiet w/ street view, large comfortable bed, clean... More

This is an older hotel. The room we stayed in was clearly dated. The room was big, but bathroom was small and would definitely need some renovations and modernization overall, although everything was clean. Location of the hotel is great, bus stops right in front which brings you to the Pier/Marina area easily. Also very easy and close to walk... More

The older building has a slight tilt to the floor but large rooms. Some have shower stalls and some have bath tubs. A good price and located in the middle of the city. Neighborhood is a little scary with people sleeping on the street but it is on a major street (with bus service). There is a diner next door... More

Overall the room was decent. Breakfast was cheap, though they did have fresh fruit to grab. Plus for a recycling bin in the room, but minus for disposable plasticware in the room and for silverware. Minus for awkward bathroom door that you had to maneuver around to get to the toilet. Wifi was solid. Hard to say whether it was... More

The Opal is a very nice clean hotel about 7-8 blocks from Union Square. The hotel itself is an older building, as are many but perfectly fine for our two nights. The lobby area has free coffee and tea all the time, which was nice along with newspapers, tourist maps etc. Breakfast was continental and was perfectly fine for what... More

The Opal is a convenient hotel to Union Square. The front desk staff makes the hotel a gem. They are more than helpful, they listen to your needs and do their best to accommodate. There is a 15 plex movie theater next door and Mel's Diner on the other side. The breakfast is adequate, get there early because the crowds... More

The rooms are large with full sized bathrooms in most. Older hotel that have rooms that are on a slight slant. Furnishings are a little worn. Location is a little sketchy (people sleeping on the street) but along a major through fare. Parking is available for an additional price. A small diner is next door and a theater is down... More
