Booked the Whitcomb Hotel directly through their website because they had a great half-price special just when we needed it. $100/nite for a double-double room. The hotel is historical and old, BUT there is no peeling paint or worn carpeting or other signs of it's age. They keep it in tip-top shape! Taking the BART from SFO to Whitcomb Hotel... More

It was our first trip to San Francisco we used our Thank you points to book. This was one of the recommended hotels. There were Bumms every block. The hotel was nice but location was tooo close to the Tenderloin(sp) District. Rooms and bathrooms need updateing badly!! Stay at the Fairmont or St Frances

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking time to write about your stay at the Hotel Whitcomb. I am pleased that you found the hotel to be nice. I am sorry you did not like the area but the homeless situation does exist throughout the City as with most urban areas, including the Union Square area. Kind regards, Darin Sturgill More

We love SFO. The hotel is very close to the trams/bus stop, in fact just 1 min walk away. I say that was a blessing(read on) and very convenient. What a brilliant idea to have Starbucks just next to the hotel. You could always grab a coffee and muffin to go. The car park service was extortion, each night we... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking time to write about your stay at the Hotel Whitcomb. I am glad that you found the hotel's central location to be so convenient. Regarding our valet parking service, our price is actually much lower than most valet services in San Francisco. As the hotel is in a major cosmopolitan area, the City does... More

Hotel is very convenient to BART stops that run up and down market street. However, if you are going to walk the city, or walk to Union Square, 8th--5th and Market are some of the WORST sidewalks to commute due to homeless / run-aways / Adult Theaters / etc... Currently, I live in Philadelphia and I am used to 'City... More

Dear Guest, I am very sorry you did not like the location of the Hotel Whitcomb. The hotel is very centrally located with all major public transportation right outside our front doors, including the BART system. This makes exploring San Francisco very easy and convenient. A friend and I stayed at this Hotel from May 9-May 14th. We paid 99 dollars/night for the room. (two doubles). We had no problems with the cleaning staff. The rooms were always cleaned, supplies refreshed, and everything in its proper place. Check in and check out were a breeze, and the service at the front desk was excellent. We... More

The main problem with this hotel - aside from the inconsiderate and dismissing staff - is its location. There are homeless people sleeping, urinating and begging all around the hotel. The worst thing is - that the homeless people around the hotel are vulgar and harass hotel guests and other passers-by. I stayed at the hotel for 6 days for... More

My daughter and I stayed 5 nights at Hotel Whitcomb during her spring break. My husband suggested this hotel because of the special rate at the time and the fact that the BART stopped right outside. We stayed last weekend and it was clearly stated when we checked in that we had booked through Travelocity. Our reservation clearly stated a King size bed but we were given a room with a Queen. Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
