The lobby and many area's of the hotel are very impressive, our stay was excellent! The rooms are small, as well as our bathroom! They were clean and presented well, reflecting the era!! The neighborhood was not the greatest, but we certainly didn't feel that we couldn't leave the grounds. The restaurant service and food was excellent as well! For... More

First of all, DONT bring your car. Its $38 a day for valet park(in a disgusting parking lot) and on day 2 i went to retrieve an item from my car and there were puddles of piss all around the only accessible door. I complained - no results. They tried giving me a room with NO WINDOW! Dark & dingy.... More

The Hotel Whitcomb is a blend of many things. The hotel is historic and beautifully updated. The rooms are older, but nicely furnished. The bathroom could have been cleaner, but nothing terrible. The location is great and easy to access public transportation, walk downtown, Chinatown and many of the sights. Just be aware when booking that this is in downtown... More

Where do I start. We took the Bart from the airport and this was very good and easy however as soon as we got into lift on platform we knew this was not looking good. The lift and area stunk or urine! The streets full of homeless and drug dealers, and I have never seen human poo in doorways and... More

Oldest hotel in the city. Nice rooms, not as big as standard but still big enough. Our bath room was quite big, but some of our fellow travelers had very small bath rooms, we heard. The hotel itself is quiet, but the soundproof sealing of windows (and walls??) is insufficient. Lot of noise from airco outlets and from the streets.... More

The Hotel Whitcomb is conveniently located close to the subway and has many restaurants within walking distance. I would have LOVED a coffee pot in the room, BUT there IS a subway in the lobby!! The architecture of this historic hotel is very beautiful and elegant. Yes, there are some homeless people camped out at the entrances...but it's San Francisco!!!

This hotel is not first class but comfortable enough for a shorter stay and absolutely well situated for all kinds of sightseeing. You can say it is a middle class hotel and a little bit old fashioned styled. But the beds are comfortable, the bathroom clean. The room has enough space( we took one towards the yard because of the traffic in Market... The hotel is very old and very out dated, lot of homeless in the lobby....lol and out side on the street. Only 2 people working in the lobby, so which take us an he to check in, with the same price you paid for, you could of get a better hotel close to union sq, at least it is way... More

It's a little bit expensive, but what's not expensive in SF? The location is good, it's situated in the centre of Market Street but it's not that great considering the homeless issue downtown. I stayed just for 3 nights. Room and bathroom were old but clean. It doesn’t have any minibar. I'll consider to stay again only if I can... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
