With my love of historic places, I booked a room for several nights here. The location is great - on Market street - albeit a little spotty with houseless individuals lurking outside in hoards. The sirens, shouts and overall ruckus from the street was very loud at night - the windows being older. Service was good - the bellman in... More

Great service! The rooms are nice and the hotel is located nearly in the middle of san fran. The personal helps you with your problems and is always there if you need anything. Right in the building is a starbucks, which is very beneficial in terms of a good breakfast

We stayed at Hotel Whitcomb in April 2015. On booking our trip to San Francisco our travel agent Trailfinders advised there was limited availability in the city and this hotel would be suitable, slightly outwith the normal tourist area, about a 10 minute walk from Union Square and slightly dated. We were unaware of the Tenderloin area and we were... More

Have you ever stayed in antique hotel? That is an opportunity, for good or bad. The hotel was built ins the 20s (I think), so imagine you will stay in a place where modern amenities are all adapted. But is nice, kind of luxury and makes you imagine that hotel was one of the tops in the 50s (really do... More

After reading many reviews, I was very skeptical of this hotel and was very unsure of what to expect. Getting there at night, there were lots of homeless people in the area. Where we dropped our car off in the back, it was away from all that. The hotel lobby area is gorgeous. We ended up going across the street... More

Good location for all the places to visit in San Francisco. On the Main Street for Tram. There are quite a few vagrants around but don't cause any problem. Bar shuts at the latest 1030pm even when busy. Staff courteous and helpful. Wifi is next to useless, but if you stand in the lobby you can use Starbucks Wifi me... More

My girlfriend and I traveled to San Francisco as the first stop on our America tour and stayed between 20th-25th July 2015. Getting to the hotel from the Airport is very easy - you can take the BART to the Civic Center stop and you will be almost at the hotels door. Checking in was easy, and we were happy... More

When you stay at Hotel Whitcomb, you stay in a turn of the (previous) century San Fran hotel - complete with cracks in the marble columns in the lobby from who knows how many earthquakes. The rooms themselves are old, but fine - if you can deal with having doors which lead into literally every adjacent room. I suppose they... More

I travel to San Francisco for business fairly often and when my business is at the San Francisco Superior Court I stay at the Hotel Whitcomb. It's location is walking distance from the courts and the accommodations are adequate. The hotel has an older feel, but not in a bad way. It is well kept and the staff are friendly.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
