When you stay at Hotel Whitcomb, you stay in a turn of the (previous) century San Fran hotel - complete with cracks in the marble columns in the lobby from who knows how many earthquakes. The rooms themselves are old, but fine - if you can deal with having doors which lead into literally every adjacent room. I suppose they... More

I travel to San Francisco for business fairly often and when my business is at the San Francisco Superior Court I stay at the Hotel Whitcomb. It's location is walking distance from the courts and the accommodations are adequate. The hotel has an older feel, but not in a bad way. It is well kept and the staff are friendly.... More

1. We had things taken from our room. 2. A friend had someone enter his room at 3am. 3. The linen is threadbare. 4. Everything is slightly dusty or faded. 5. There are few hotels in SF, and the management don't particularly seem to care if you are not happy, because they can always fill the rooms - hence no... More

Not a great deal to say really, the room was average and very basic. The shower is the reason my rating is poor and not average, there was very little water and even less pressure pushing it out. Construction work at the rear of the hotel was a little noisy but not disturbing. Very little communication with any of the... More

Very easy to travel to from airport by BART. Nice to be a historic hotel but I have to say the room is small, bathroom is small, not much air, old carpet make you feel not too clean. We were with our 14 years' old daughter so the room is even smaller. Average really - I would rather stay in... More

It's hard to fault a property for their location since that is out of their control. However, be advised that the location, while ideal and adjacent to the BART and Muni station, can get quite colorful. Pros: Rooms are clean and well appointed with FANTASTIC bedding. Location! You would be hard pressed to find a better value when considering exploring... More

First impressions are reasonably good. Clean and tidy, though upon closer inspection, things start to turn. Very slow elevators, small rooms, tiny shower with no pressure, wifi works only for first minute and drops out. But all of this could be overlooked if it wasn't for the noise! The first night someone was frantically banging and screaming somewhere surrounding our... More

I stay regularly. Kazi the manager always makes me and my clients feel welcome. He and his staff will go to any lengths for the guests. The wifi functions pretty well, they have new TVs, and the building has old-school charm and class.

When speaking to Mgr. Shawn Clark to discuss wifi not working, cleaning staff waking me up at 8am & issues with the charge on my card his only response was, "That's awesome" and hanging up in my face.

I've stayed at the Whitcomb before and have had good experiences. The area is a little rough around the edges but is improving. I made a mistake with my reservation and was almost out the cost until the guest services manager Kazi saved the day. He went out of his way to assist me and was a breath of fresh... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
