An average hotel but walking distance from metro and from union square ,but the hotel is fine with rooms and breakfast is average, but walking to centre you see a lots of homeless people who create a lot of ruckus at night, no coffee maker in room

I stayed at the Whitcomb while I attended a conference at the nearby Moscone Center. The hotel has seen better days. It may have been majestic half a century ago, but now everything is old and tired looking. My room was small, the walls thin enough to hear conversations next door. The stretch of Market Street where the Whitcomb is... More

I feel obligated to post a review to defend some of the bad messages here. If you have spent any time at different hotels in San Francisco you know it’s a very expensive city for lodging. And if you are accustomed to visiting large cities you would be aware of what can be expected on the street. Someone approaching you... More

The hotel is in a terrible part of the city. Almost got mugged twice getting into the hotel. Checked into the room and found there was no hot water. Asked the front desk to switch room and was told no. Tried to cancel my stay but since I booked through AMOMA and already checked in was denied.

This truly was a beautiful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly greeted by Larry, the doorman, and then the check in procedure with the Front Office Team, Clem and Sean was faultless. My room was quiet and elegant and a sanctuary to return to in the evenings after a busy 3 day business trip in San Francisco.... More

We stayed there for 3 nights at the end of March - at first glance I was pleasantly surprised as the entrance was lovely and the reception staff were also lovely. Our room was on the 4th floor and as we stepped off the elevator my heart sank - the hallways are dark and depressing with wood paneling on the... More

I stayed here with my two children for 5 nights. Very well located with public transport such as the Bart, bus and street cars right outside the main door of hotel. Union Square is only a five minute walk from hotel. Hotel itself is lovely and the bedrooms are fine. It is quiet considering how well located it is. Staff... More

me and my husband stayed at the whitcomb hotel, and the price was fair. San francisco is a very expensive city, but the whitcomb is average. the location is very good' in the middle of Market street, in front the hotel you have a great transportatio and the best part is that the metro is under the lobby, and its... Worst hotel selection ever. We booked three nights for our first visit to San Francisco. It looked well-rated at the site where we booked and was marked as 4 stars. Pictures were great so we were confident it was a great choice. First we arrived to discover that parking lot was not included, it was 35 USD + Tax per... More

This hotel was very accommodating. We had a nice large room (693) and all staff were helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. While the neighborhood is not the best, it was fine walking to and from the hotel. Additionally the F line stops and drops off right in front of the hotel, as does... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
