Old hotel with an awful smell. Went out to get food early and faced near on 100 homeless people, most of whom were drunk or high. Very very scary ! Got as far as the local cvs to pick up some food to take back to the hotel room and witnessed a theft and fight. Was told by sales assistant... More

Don't come to this hotel, not worth it! The room is not clean and they have a very poor customer service. The guy who works at the valet parking at this hotel is very impolite. The parking is now raise to $38 per night and they will also charge for additional fees like parking tax for more than $5. I... More

The positives: ok location for Union Square and uptown shops. Negatives:- really small room and even smaller bathroom, ok we didn't plan to spend much time in the room, but as we had there case with us the was no room to store them except the floor at the end of the beds, not ideal. the management have seen fit... The services and amenities belong to 19th century. Smells like a rotten rat; dark-- some rooms with ONLY two lamps; EXTREMLY difficult connection to Internet; have spent more than an hour on the phone to be connected while their ad suggests differently, some rooms simply don't connect; had to move three times; the mattress very UNCOMFORTABLE; torn and stained bedding... While checking out we called the front desk people about getting the valley parking which they said would take 5 mins. When we went to get the car, it took over 20 (and nearly missed a flight, while the people in front of us waited over 40 mins). While waiting we went in and asked about the hold-up. He told... More

So, first off, I need to say: it's in a terribly dirty area but surrounded by convenience and decadence. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are littered with homelessness and supposed addicts. The sidewalks aren't a pretty sight, and although I did not see anyone defecating in the streets, it apparently happens. However, despite all this, there are police everywhere... More

The hotel is located on the main market street in downtown SF which makes it easy to access all the tourist sites. The hotel does not have a proper breakfast place but has a Starbucks attached to it which helps at times. The hotel is a heritage hotel but because of that the rooms are very small specially for families.... More

To sum up my experience here, we moved rooms a total of 4 times. They kicked us out of the first one, the second one had ants in the bathroom, the third had one bed (we needed two) and then the fourth was finally what we stayed in for longer than 24 hours. The halls smelt like pot, the rooms... More

About the location. When we first saw the reviews we thought that we didn't care about the homeless people that much. Since we both have lived in NYC and Boston. But I've never seen so many homeless people and crack addicts around here. Civic center can be better called crack center. While walking around they didn't even hide it, just... More

This is a beautiful hotel. I would have loved time to explore more of it but we only stayed two nights. In the room we got I found it spacious (had high ceilings), smart and clean. There were two of us staying but we're both little. The bed was very comfy. But while the air conditioning was effective it was noisy.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
