The hotel itself was comfortable and the rooms were nice and clean. Staff members were nice and loved the free WIFI. The only downside was the location, I did not feel safe walking to the hotel at night due to several people loitering out on the street. Was good that security were always in the lobby at night though.

Hotel Whitcomb is a decent hotel for the price and location, but one thing to keep in mind is that this is an older hotel. The mirrors at the end of the hallway were a little creepy and reminded me of the hotel in the Shining. Here are some of the positives and negatives: Positives: Next to BART station and... More

The room was small but very nicely decorated and clean. We chose it because we were seeing Dame Edna across the street at the Orpheum Theater. There is also a wonderful restaurant off the lobby. We will stay there the next time there is an event we want to see at that theater.

This is a great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Rooms are nice. Although the mirrors in the halls are a bit creepy. Has a Starbucks downstairs. The only problem is that it isn't in a very good location. There is nothing around. Lots of homeless people at night too. Much better off near the Fisherman's Wharf or Union Square area.

If you like historic old buildings, then this is for you. If you are a modern business traveler and you are use to your Hilton's, and more business centric travel facilities this is not for you. The homeless situation is pretty bad in the area, and all in all it is not a clean part of the city. I would... More

My boyfriend's first visit to San Francisco, CA was a SUCCESS! It's all because of our marvelous stay at the Hotel Whitcomb. This hotel has everything you could imagine. Great location, wonderful staff, and atmosphere - it's amazing!!! Our stay was far better than staying at a Five-Star hotel anywhere. From the manager, Kazi Ahmed, to guess service staff, Christy... I recently concluded a large event held at the Whitcomb -- the 7th annual Salsa Rueda Festival. The venue with its early 20th century elegance is perfect and has become an identifiable element of this Festival. But I want to really give a shout out to the staff of the Whitcomb: competent, helpful and gracious people who never lose their... More

The lobby is beautiful and overall a decent place to stay. The area isn't the greatest...lots of homeless... but it's easy to get around quickly and within walking distance to The Warfield and The Orpheum. The rooms are small but quaint....however ours was loud at 4 am--outside noise that woke me up. Munch Haven across the street is delicious.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
