What a wonderful surprise! After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit skeptical and unsure what we were getting ourselves into. We were pleasantly surprised to find very helpful and curteous staff, a clean and comfortable room and a conveniently located place! We had one of the best weeks of our lives last week while staying at Hotel... More

Stayed at this hotel for four nights. The bed was super comfortable, the amenities top notch. Check-in and check-out were a piece of cake. Most of all, the people who worked there were all very friendly, from the restaurant hostess to the maintenance guy I saw in the hall way.

I stayed at Hotel Whitcomb again for a major scientific conference. As a repeat customer, I have been pleasantly surprised at the consistent level of service and comfort that the hotel and its staff provide. The lobby was welcoming and decorated to fit the season. My room was clean, well stocked with towels and linens, and turned down appropriately every... More

I can imagine that in its hey day, this hotel had charm. It once served as City Hall for San Francisco. Today it is worn around the edges, and lacks some of the basic qualities we often take for granted. My first realization that we would be on our own was when we arrived and needed change to pay a... I was in San Francisco for a short visit with my wife, I have booked this hotel because other friend where staying in the same Hotel. Unbelievably ugly, as soon we arrive the Hall was desert, none around, we went up with one of the 4 elevators, which was stopped twice on other floors because one of the maid had... More

If you are looking for history, it's the place to go. Lobby is impressive. Nice employees for sure, and a great location. I found it a little spooky though. I think with a little more upkeep, it could be a top hotel in San fransisco.

I checked in very late and didn't realize how run down and gross the hotel was. There was disgusting hair on the floor, sink, toilet, and shower. I almost showered with my socks on it was so nasty. The room and bathroom were very small and not updated at all. I realize this is a "historic" hotel but it is... More

I am a consultant and was In San Francisco for a client that booked me a 3 night stay. The only positive thing I can say about the hotel is that it is directly in front of the BART Civic Center stop. One needs to then bypass numerous homeless people and the smell of urine before entering the hotel lobby;... More

The architecture and old charm of the lobby is intact. There is a starbucks right on the side of the lobby. Perfect location right next to the Civic centre BART station with easy connectivity to almost anywhere in SFO bay area. Good knowledgeable front desk staff and concierge,

The pros: Decent looking clean rooms. I'm not very picky about size, but I suppose some might find the rooms a bit small, especially the bathroom. They were fine for me, though. The cons: the wifi here is TERRIBLY slow, I expect at least halfway decent wifi when paying the rates that were paid here. there's virtually nowhere to plug... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
