I love staying at Joie de Vivre hotels in San Francisco. Each one is unique, usually an older hotel/motel property that's been brought back to its funky glory. Phoenix Hotel is a great renovated motel with an attached restaurant/lounge. JDV staff are always exceptional and the front desk staff at the Phoenix doesn't disappoint. Always accommodating and full of great... More

My friends recently stayed here for their wedding evening & flying all the way from England, I wanted to make their evening special. From the moment I made contact with Diana, to Luke sending me pictures, the service was fantastic! I firmly believe it's people whom make any business and especially hotels and that's why this place is a cut... More

Though almost all the reviews raved about the hotel, I was hesitant and concerned purely based on the location, at the edge of the Tenderloin district which is similar to an area in my home city - people struggling with various mental issues, substance issues, homelessness, etc. I loved my stay! The hotel staff are fantastic, professional and eager to... More

Chose this hotel mainly for the free parking and room price point. Nice vintage feel. Room was upgraded and actually used the heated pool as it happened to be one of the hottest weekends ever! Comfortable courtyard, felt safe. Didn't eat at the on site restaurant, walked up the block to a Thai place that was great. Can't remember the... More

The hotel staff are polite and helpful. The room was clean and lovely. The beds were comfortable. The parking lot is small but staff helped us keep our vehicle safe from dings. There were a couple parties going on during our visit but noise levels ceased relatively early. Staff were very professional and easy going at the same time. The... More

I love staying that the Phoenix. The hotel is pretty basic - but it's super clean, the staff is friendly informative and helpful, and the pool is great (even on foggy days). On sunny warm days (which do happen) it's incredible. It's also the best priced hotel in SF (That you would actually want to stay at).

We stayed at the Phoenix only one night for our wedding at San Francisco City Hall but wished we could have stayed all week, we absolutely loved it!! It's a true oasis dead center of the Tenderloin! The staff were all so awesome, they even had chilled champagne with a sweet congratulations note waiting for us! The property is super... More

Convenient location near Civic Center - fairly short walk from BART. Really nice updated room with *space* to move around - not something even higher-priced SF hotels have. They even have parking for one car/room. I had a great corner balcony - view's not the best. Can be a little noisey with the tropical windows facing the pool that don't... More

I don't normally write reviews, but since I felt pretty strongly that this place deserved a five-star rating I thought I'd take the short bit of time and write that out there. I'm an expat living in Asia and have been in Beijing/Shanghai for a while now. It is amazing to me that considering all the "hardware" that gets put... More

we stayed two nights here in February and loved it .....very comfy beds , great courtyard built round lovely heated pool. Really warm and welcoming staff and a generally civilzed and personal feel to the whole hotel. Dont be put off by comments about the area ....it is a bit edgy but we felt OK walking around ......and took a... More
