Being as it is one of only five US hotels with its own adjoining recording studios, I was fascinated with it as an unusual beddery and was delighted with my choice. I'm an Australian travel writer and sleep around a lot in all classes of hostelries so I am happy to make this one of my top five choices for... More

The Mosser is situated at a great location, especially if you want to shop. I thought that it was priced at a good value-for-money level. Of course, to a certain extent you get what you pay for - the rooms are tiny. There's barely any walking space, and given the limited space, it was really strange that they decided to... More

Overall great stay. Comfortable bed, clean room, ceiling fan with controls. Wifi worked well and was free. No issues with the room itself. Location is great, right around the corner from the Market-Powell Bart station. Lots of restaurants, places to eat, etc. However, there was some noise as a result of this central location. For me, it wasn't all that... More

The Mosser is a very nice boutique hotel with a couple of current drawbacks. If like me, you feel neither of these is a deal breaker, you can't do better in San Francisco for the price. First, the inexpensive rooms are small dorm-sized rooms with a nice bed, chair, sink, closet, wall mounted TV and ceiling fan. It's basic, but... More

Dear LenWh, WoW, thank you for the glowing 5-star recommendation and for taking the time to write a review! Our property is unique because we do have some economical rooms with a shared bath in the hallway, which is the room you mentioned you stayed in. It makes me happy to hear you found these rooms to be comfortable—we really... More

I stayed in a queen sized room on the 8th floor by myself for a conference. I love the location of the Mosser (very near the BART station as well), and the price is excellent. However, I do have to say noise was a bit of an issue. From the top floor I could hear construction going on late into... More

The price for the Union Square area is great--$66/night in April. It's close to great shopping and a few restaurants. Yes, you share a common bath and toilet on each floor but they're very clean and it's really no big deal if you've never stayed in a hotel like this before. People across the street are paying quadruple rates for... More

This hotel isn't even worth the name, I'm sure you couldn't get less if you booked a hostel...but then at least, you know what you get and you pay less. We slept very badly because of different reasons: -the beds and the rooms are horribly small. We didn't have any place left for our bags, so we had to put... More

I booked this hotel looking for a low cost alternative to the other options in the city for my daughter's birthday weekend. Boy, were we surprised by how nice this hotel was! Although we shared a bed and walked down the hallway about 10' for the shower and bathroom we could not have been happier! The hotel has tons of... More

Accommodation in San Francisco is not cheap, at least it wasn't when we were visiting. So our primary focus was the most comfortable place we could find at a reasonable price. The Mosser definitely fit the bill. It's an older building and the rooms are on the smaller side. There's no air con so it can get stuffy. But the... More

The Mosser's best quality is its location; it is in downtown San Francisco less than 10 minutes' walk to stops for the major public transportation methods of the city, including BART and the Cable Car lines. What makes the hotel ideal in my book is that in addition to the location, it offers comfortable, quiet, clean lodgings at affordable rates.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
