A fantastic experience. The hotel is close to everything. We were able to walk everywhere in the city. A little noisy at night but it's nice to be part of the city vibe. You can stand at your window and watch the world go by. We were very impressed with service and the rooms were exceptionally clean. more

I stayed with my mother when she attended a conference in December and we lucked into one of the renovated rooms. I spent a day in the room working, and the desk was great and well-lit. The beds were very comfortable and the staff friendly. The downside of the central location is that people party out in Union Square late... more

I stayed at the Handlery Hotel In October for 4 nights. The hotel is situated right in the middle of Union Square which is the shopping district. We got a taxi from the airport which cost about $50 and took about 30 minutes. The Hotel is a lovely boutique style hotel which is very nicely decorated inside. The room was... more

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at our hotel. I was happy to read that you enjoyed your stay and I agree with you that if you come to San Francisco, Alcatraz is a must see atttraction. I'm glad that you were able to make it off "the rock" and enjoy our city. Thank you...

The Handlery is in the best location for walking to shops, museums and Union Square. We stayed over New Year and I was not looking forward to having to put up with rowdy guests. Well, you wouldn't have known it was such a busy crazy time while staying at the Handlery as even though the hotel was booked out, everything... more

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel on TripAdvisor. I appreciated your nice comments and was pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I will admit our New Year's Eve celebration can not hold a candle to Sydney's but we still enjoy it. Thank you again for staying at the Handlery. Cheers, Jon S. Handlery President,...

This is probably my 12th time at the Handlery. The location and parking packages keep me coming back. This time we were greeted by a newly redecorated room - nice. The mini-fridge didn't work but they replaced it right away. There are reasonably-priced (even bargain) restaurants just steps away and everyone we encountered on the staff was sincerely nice. If... more

No window, completely dark (even in the daytime), dusty, full of awful smell, and horrible hotel!!! I was really regret to have paid $196 for this kind of hotel. I travel for business almost half of each month but this hotel is ranked the worst. The room was almost same as ones youth hostel in Manhattan I used to use... more

Dear Guest, I recently saw your review of our hotel and let me apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. I wish I knew what room you were staying in so I could have a better understanding of your comments. Unfortunately, our Historic Section was constructed in the early part of the century and inherent in it's Victorian style is the...

I recently stayed at the Handlery over the holiday weekend. This was my second visit to their hotel. I have been staying at boutique hotels all around the city over the past few years and really enjoy their historic charm and unique appeal. I like the Handlery because of its' cleanliness, decorative appeal and its' location to some of the... more

All-though this hotel is in the heart of San Francisco once you step inside the very comfortable lobby it does not seem like your in the heart of the city....The front Desk staff was very friendly and accommodating...our room was in the older part of the building and had not yet been remodeled...The Room was huge, I would call it... more

Having read a couple of negative reviews on this website regarding the size of the rooms in the historic part of this hotel, I was concerned and emailed them. I received a reply from Jon S Handlery, the President of the hotel, who assured me we would be delighted with the size of the room we would get. We were... more

What a superb hotel. As they go in SF probably a little on the smaller side but this gave a friendly feel which was enhanced by the helpful staff. Our room was in the new block looking out of the rear of the hotel but with views of the surrounding shopping streets. This meant a little bit of a walk... more
