I've been going to this Hotel for many years and we love it. The people (staff) are so nice and helpful. The restaurant is first rate and the beds are comfortable. Many of the rooms have these big claw-footed, old fashioned tubs. The lobby is beautiful with lace curtains and beautiful tapestries. It's walking distance of downtown and Chinatown. It... more

I live in San Francisco, so it takes a lot to impress me but everything at the Cornell Hotel is impressive: from the staff, to the food, to the atmosphere, and most of all, to the lovely rooms. I needed to vacate my apartment while work was being done. I had been to the restaurant many times but never stayed... more

The location of this place is very good. Also staff is friendly. What I did not like, was the reminder, that even though, the breakfast was included in the overall hotel rates, the tip was not: To my opinion, it should be either - or. This is just not a convenient style. Anyhow, you are not advised to choose this... more

We chose the "Cozy Queen" room, which was $100 a night (week night). Our room was on the fifth floor (Matisse-themed). My husband and I have a small bedroom at home, so unlike some others we weren't bothered by the room's dimensions. We fit, along with our two large bags, and we still had room to move around. Everything was... more

I stayed at Cornell previously some five years ago and it was not as nice this time as then. Problems started with breakfast which included either eggs/bacon/toast or French toast. There was only one server weekdays this visit and she was responsible for seating arrivals, taking orders and serving all food. This was an impossible task and made breakfast so... more

If you crave a bit of French flair combined with San Francisco history in a great downtown location for an affordable rate, you will not be disappointed! We had a delicious meal at the very atmospheric Jeanne d'Arc restaurant , decorated with tapestries, pieces of armor and hand painted medieval fresco paintings. After a dessert of Grand Marnier souffle to... more

I loved my stay at the Cornell Hotel de France. The staff was very nice. It was homey and beautiful with all the art on the walls: both hand painted and framed. The morning breakfast was my favorite - with the friendliest servers!!!. Fantastic and safe location. - Loved being blocks away from San Francisco landmarks. I really enjoyed my... more

If you like France - and I mean all of France, not just Paris - you will love Cornell Hotel de France in San Francisco. It's the real deal, run by a wonderful French Family who came to San Francisco back in the 60's and over time turned this 1908 6-story Victorian into an authentic French country style hotel and... more

A stay at the Cornell Hotel is a tiptoe into another country and another time. I love the feeling of contrast when I step out the front door, back to the hubbub of Bush Street and the cable car turnaround at the base of Powell. Tucked inside the Cornell are its welcoming proprietors, Madame and Monsieur Lambert; an elevator that... more
