A bit of delightful French ambiance in the heart of San Francisco! When in San Francisco, I do not need a pool, spa, or workout facilities (walking the hills takes care of that). I need a clean, quiet, comfortable - and affordable - place close to Union Square, the Financial District, and easy access to public transportation. The Cornell meets... More

Beautiful boutique hotel, complete with elevator that closes with an interior gate and an old-fashioned claw-footed bathtub. Great location near the cable car and Union Square, 5 (steep!) blocks from BART, walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. A great night's sleep listening to the occasional ring of the cable car's bell passing by (but other than that very quiet).

A few blocks from Union Square, this hotel is nicely situated and it offers a more personal and interesting place to stay. The French theme is carried out throughout the hotel, ranging from the lobby to the dining room, and it also leads to a nice aesthetic in the rooms. Our room was very comfortable and very quiet, though the... More

We only needed accommodations for one night and didn't wanted to break the bank. Booked at the Cornell, Hotel de France with no expectations. The rates are very reasonable and it's well located. The blue and white sign on the building made me nervous as we approached the entry, but as we walked in the front door, the Cornell began... More

This adorable hotel had charm to spare, and gives you an experience you simply cannot get staying at a chain hotel. The staff was polite and very helpful, breakfast in the restaurant was wonderful and the building itself had something of interest around every turn. The location is super convenient as well. I would recommend making sure there is a... More

Dear TGeoff, Glad you had a good experience with our small Cornell Hotel de France and were appreciative of the work of our different talented artists. We are so upset when some customers use the word "kitsch" to describe our decorations. A fan is supposed to be in every room. Thank you for your good comments Best regards Claude Lambert... More

Very good value hotel. Centrally located for shopping and Union Square though the last block a steep climb back. Easy access for transport to Chinatown, Little Italy and Fishermans Wharf. Very clean the room was on the small side though Bathroom had good light and great mirrors. Would not like to stay in Summer as there is no air conditioning... More

Cozy, clean and like stepping back into time. This little hotel is a few blocks from Chinatown, Union Square, Bart and the Powell St. Cable Car is right next to the place. A real bargain in San Francisco even at the height of summer @ $200 for the large room. We had Room 501 and had a front row view... More

Stayed here again recently and just walking in the door, felt like I was Europe again. From the homey sitting room with French background music playing,to the cozy hotel rooms on different French artist-themed floors, to the gentleman who helped welcome us at the door and move our bags in, I felt I should have been trying to speak French.... Very small rooms with poor ventilation. The rooms are tired. Very noisy at night. Staff nowhere to be seen. Breakfast is served and has limited choice. No selections apart from eggs. No breads, fruits, yoghurt etc Overall very poor and only positive sign would be location. Rather book at a chain hotel as they are in abundance.

My third time in San Francisco and first stay here. Overall, the stay was fine and I would return because of the good value. My room needed upgrading and I did see one other which was smaller, but much better (newer paint, carpet, tile). My room size was average, although the bathroom was tiny. It faced the back (not Bush... More
