4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I picked this place based on Trip Advisor reviews. And no disappointments for sure. The room was actually a bit bigger than normally found in these older properties. No AC, but not a problem this time of year. Could be in the summer. WiFi worked well. The place was distinctive due to the decor for sure. Again, as normal with... More

Cornell Hotel is one of the most wonderful secrets of San Francisco. I (now 'we') have been staying here since the 1960s. Oui, 50 years! A remarkable, personable and warmly hospitable hotel. Chapeau! famille Lambert and all the staff!

First of all, I'm very surprised that this place has such a top score here. We stayed there for a few days, the room was on the small side but didn't bother us at all. But it was very cold at nights, there was no AC and the heater was not working. If you plan to go there in the... More

We stayed overnight at the Cornell Hotel de France when we were going to see Jersey Boys. When we arrived, we were greeted by incredibly friendly and welcoming staff, who gave my husband directions on where to park and then showed me to our room. They also have a very friendly golden retriever who greets you upon arrival as well... More

Location was great. Downhill walk to Union square. Ride the cable car up the street to get back. Rooms were small. Had to get two rooms for the 4 of us. Our mattress was fine, daughters mattress was bad. Downstairs is restaurant with free breakfast. It was decorated with French theme. Pleasant surprise. Choice of eggs cooked your choice with... Dear Sir, Thank you for posting a review on Trip Advisor. Sorry for your daughters' bed...! All the small San Francisco older hotels, generally, do not have rooms big enough for four persons. It is unfortunate but what could we do ! With our regards Claude Lambert - Owner . More

My husband and I like boutique hotels and this small hotel is comfortable and quirky with it's French touches. Close to Union Square, the cable cars and good restaurants, we found it a perfect place to stay. The staff were warm and helpful. It's good value!

I stayed recently with a friend at the Cornell Hotel de France and we loved every minute of it. Walking into the entrance was like walking into a charming B&B in France. Everyone at the hotel was very gracious, to the concierge who locked up our luggage until we could check in, to the waiter at the amazing four course... More
