the room I had was small (I had to turn sidewise to get past the table to the bed) but it was clean, quaint, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was also quiet, and convenient to Union Square.

This was our 4th stay at this charming hotel. The complimentary breakfast (limited to usually eggs and French toast) is substantial enough to get you on your way for exploring the City. The last block heading up Powell from the BART Station isn't for the faint hearted, but the hotel is conveniently located in the Union Square area. Our room... More

I selected this hotel out of every one i reviewed in San Francisco and i was not disappointed. I do not like modern, trendy hotels so this charming old hotel, vintage elevator, lovely staff, clean facilities and the lovely Michel, the resident bouncy golden retriever, made this hotel perfect for me. Location cannot be beaten - just steps from cable... More

A friend told me about this wonderful hotel, and we were not disappointed. We loved the old world elevator complete with the hand painted flowers on the doors, and the handprinted flowers on the ceilings of the sitting and bed room as well as on the wall of the bathroom. The bed and sheets were perfect. We were able to... More

Dear JoanHeron, Very happy that you were sensitive to the "old charm" of our old fashioned Cornell Hotel de France. It is a reward for us when a customer appreciate what we are doing, mainly regarding art. We have a talented artist who has been working with us for the past fourteen years three full days per week. It would... More

Can't beat this location, on corner of cable car stop, walking distance to BART, walking distance to Nob Hill and great restaurants! Very friendly staff. No AC though, but not too much of a problem in San Fran. Fan provided. Free served breakfast, delicious but not huge portions (one piece of bacon - although they will give you one more... More

Dear Maggie V; Thank you for posting a good review on Trip Advisor. Glad that you enjoy your stay at our hotel and notice the uniqueness of it with the "touches of art". In San Francisco we hardly need air- conditioning ( no more than ten very hot days in a year). We shall be happy to welcome you again... More

Friendly family run Hotel in great location near Union Square. French themed with excellent dinner in the Jean d'Arch Restaurant! Value breakfast included. The street cars stop at the corner which is about 50 yards away, very handy. If you want to ride the street car don't go all the way to Market Street or you will have a VERY... More

We stayed for one night mid-week. Had a fine room at the back of the hotel, fourth floor. Rooms are about what you might expect for a 100-year-old building - but everything worked, bed was of good quality, in-room WiFi worked with a strong signal, etc. What makes the property really sing is the staff - friendly, accommodating, and full... We thought we had found the perfect place to stay for an evening in the city. We live about 30 miles south of San Francisco. We had plans for dinner and the theater and this small hotel, located just a short walk from the theater, seemed to fit our needs. I had planned to write a very positive review as... More

We loved our stay at the Cornell. The place is on Bush near Stockton and a short walk to China town and North Beach. 30 minutes to the wharf are, 20 minutes to Fillmore.
