I stayed at this hotel at the start and at the end of a tour of the West Coast of USA. The reception area is very pleasant and the complementary wine reception in the early evening was very welcome to get to know others staying at the hotel. The rooms are a good size and clean. I only used the... more

I have to add to the positive reviews of the Hotel Carlton. Our experience here was excellent. The front desk was super helpful and friendly, helping get us checked in early even though we hadn't requested it and showing us how to take the train to the huge embarrassing Bears game we were in town for. We had absolutely no... more

Like several people before us we had a perfect stay at the Carlton from start to finish. We were there for 5 nights from Nov. 4th to 9th. The staff was of very friendly, and helpful like others mentioned. When we arrived they worked it out so that our friend who also booked a room for the same time was... more

We've stayed in plenty of San Francisco hotels, from fancy (on various company nickels) to fleabags. Hotel Carlton was definitely the nicest. From the moment we checked in and Theo handed us a map and a copy of the Bay Guardian while other guests were enjoying the free wine reception in the lobby, we knew we had hit on something... more

The variability of the reviews for this hotel show how people's expectations can vary. I found this hotel to be an excellent choice when you consider the difficulty of finding a reasonably priced hotel within walking distance of Union Square. Yes, it's an old building, and you can hear street noises, and the neighborhood isn't Nob Hill (although it's nearby).... more

I admit that when my husband and I checked into our room we were a bit taken aback. We got a corner room which was a good size and the walk in closet was a plus. But the walls are paper thin, you can hear every conversation and worst of all - dogs barking. BEWARE that this is a pet... more

We stayed at the Hotel Carlton while my spouse attended a convention in nearby Union Square. I found this hotel to be a true delight. The rooms were clean, modern and stylish. I was impressed with their environmental emphasis which included filtered water available on each floor to avoid having to buy bottled water. Also, great free Internet service in... more

Rooms were ok, bathroom is bit shabby and theres alot of noise from outside (fire engines). Not really that many amenities at the hotel - but the lobby area was nice. more

This was our first hotel in a road trip across the US and it made for a perfect start. The staff were welcoming and funny, the rooms were fine and the food & service in the restaurant was good, if a little expensive in the evening. We particularly enjoyed the regular evening wine & music. Being a bit cynical we... more
