We stayed at Hotel Tomo while on holiday in San Francisco. It is a lovely, quirky hotel with Japanese themed rooms, each with different murals on the walls. Our room was clean and spacious and very comfortable. The beds were very comfortable and the room was quiet with no street noise. The staff were very friendly and were very helpful... More

Thanks so much, Wallbert! I'm happy to hear that you had a chance to experience the many facets of our neighborhood here in SF. In addition to the Sundance theater at Japantown, Fillmore Street has a neat little independent cinema nestled in among the restaurants and bars. It's quite charming, too! More

I was fortunate to spend a week in SF on business and selected the Tomo on the basis it was all I could find due to numerous conventions taking place. A typical Kimpton it is not but I understand it's being remodeled at the moment. That said, as a place to stay it's comfortable and clean and I loved the... More

Hello, Westofcenter. I am glad to hear that you were comfortable here with us (the room size does make all the difference, doesn't it?). I will make sure to pass along some of your other observations to our brand team. I know that the rates throughout the area were definitely out of the ordinary when two big conferences overlapped this... More

Hotel well located in a nice and quiet area. Close to bus stop to access city center. The rooms and bathrooms had a very decent size and were very clean. However, when we arrived, noone informed us that a restaurant was available in the hotel. we found out the day we left... Very poor information provided by the reception.

Thank you so much, Marie C! I'll give that tip to the front desk and perhaps we can make the lobby sign for Mums restaurant larger. Their shabu shabu and bento boxes are a lot of fun. I will also share your kudos with the housekeeping staff. Hopefully we'll see you back in the neighborhood again soon! More

I am checked in, after a disastrous airbnb and looking for a last minute hotel. Tomo had availability... so for that I'm thankful. But, there's a reason. I am stunned that Kimpton allows their good name to be on this. Kimpton is my favorite hotel brand, from the Palomar in DC to Ink48 in NYC and the Monaco here in... More

Hello, PJM783. I see that you are a Kimpton fan and I would have loved to meet the expectations set by our brand. Hopefully you did enjoy the comfy beds after you settled in, or I trust the wifi improved? Our signals are usually so good, I can see it was just one thing after another happening in this case,... I loved this hotel and the staff. Typical of a Kimpton property, the hotel was clean with a fun decor and daily happy hour. It is located in Japantown, and while I was in town for work, it wasn't centrally located for the hour breaks I had to explore the city. On the plus side though, I never spent time... More

Hi, tikidream, and thanks for all the praise of our staff and this fun little neighborhood. We are pretty lucky to be right at the intersection of Japantown and Pacific Heights. Some of our other hotels are closer to the tourist shopping or financial districts, though we're pretty excited to be steps from the boutiques and local spots, as well... More

I'm a frequent guest ok Kimpton Hotels. With the exception of Hotel Tomo I have really enjoys these hotels. I thought I could count on the Kimpton brand to deliver a consistent level of style and comfort. Alas,The Hotel Tomo could only ever be raised to the level of the rest of the Kimpton hotels if it first met the... More

Hi, PeteMass61, I can understand the sticker shock of the JPMorgan week in San Francisco. I know it might not help at this point, but I can assure you that we are back to offering some great off season deals now that that huge demand has passed. I hope that we might have the chance to welcome you back, and... More

First the location. This was great. It is in Japantown, a part of San Francisco I'd never been to before. We found great restaurants nearby in Japantown AND in lower Pacific Heights on Fillmore Street. There is a bus stop right across the street and a couple of blocks walk to other lines. Thus getting to and fro is really... More

Just an update. We always stay here when in SF and it has changed ownership (now Kimpton). Staff was the same (remembered us), rooms still very clean, same decor. I haven't stayed in a Kimpton before so I can't compare it to other hotels in that chain, but it's still our go to place in SF.

Thanks, NMBomber, and I'm glad to hear that you felt right at home with the staff here. They have been showing me the ropes and very welcoming as we develop the property into a "Kimpton look and feel." You should check out our Kimpton Karma Rewards program if you have not already. It means you always get a welcome treat,... More

Staff was helpful as expected from a Kimpton. Hotel was tired and lacked character--unusual for a Kimpton. Bed was comfy but the decor seemed forced and the boutique charm was non-existent. Better Kimpton options in San Francisco to consider before this one, and, without a facelift, I'll be skipping this one.

Hello, Kimptonite, and thanks for coming to see us as the Tomo begins its evolution as the new addition to our family here in SF. I am glad that you already felt the service love and hopefully enjoyed some Kimpton perks like the wine hour and free wifi. While the current j-pop look is a lot of fun (and the... More

This is a former Best Western that has been taken over by Kimpton, but they have yet to remodel. Other than high quality management, there is nothing Kimtpon about this property (yet). The rooms are tired, there is an odor of fish, no morning coffee or room service. Its also not cheap. The night I stayed I contemplated checking out... More

Thanks for keepin' the faith, MonkeyGreen! The hotel will be fully renovated on a floor-by-floor basis starting in January. Meanwhile, we have already dialed in the wine party (complete with sake), bikes for a spin around Japantown/Pacific Heights, and free wifi for all members of Kimpton Karma Rewards. I have been with the company for 8 years and am so... More
