Clean, pleasant, quite nice --- but as was said before, it is very Japanese. Or really, a hybrid of Japanese/American. This applies to the decor, furnishings and restaurant. Room quite large for a hotel in Japan. Bathrooms nice in size and very clean. And the area is good - Japan Town, with only two blocks to Filmore street and its... More

Thanks, traveljunkie26! I love it, we San Franciscans can head to Monterrey and you can zip up here. California is great like that. Anyhow, I'm glad you loved the neighborhood and Japanese-American fusion experience here. We are lucky to have Japantown to the south and Fillmore Street/Pac Heights to the west. Though it becomes expensive for me to sit so... More

This Hotel was recommended by the travel agent maybe as its just become part of the Kimpton group they are putting it forward. The Hotel has a quirky Japanese theme going on which is quite quaint but not quite sure it really works for me but I guess some people love it. On arrival we are booked in and given... More

Hello, 202vwcamper, The good news is that we can cater to those with and without dogs since we do have a pet-free floor. I hope that you will consider coming back due to this bit of good news, and also if you've seen Japantown already, you can still enjoy Fillmore Street and the other boutique shopping/dinign neighborhoods adjacent to here,... Located in Japantown and bordering the New Fillmore, the most recent member of the hotel chain fits neatly within the Kimpton Kulture. From its anime palettes, portraits, and pastiche, the Tomo is a welcome change from the bustle of the other Kimpton properties downtown but still accessible via the number 2 line or a longer walk. It lacks the amenities... More

Hi, Mr. Dimaggio, It is exciting to see a nice review like this from a TripAdvisor Top Contributor and such a loyal Kimpton fan. (Speaking of fans, yes we do have new hair dryers in the rooms already, and they are the great new company standard with the strong power and retractable cord :) ). Stay tuned for more good... More

Neat little hotel in the heart of Japantown. Great location, central to many cool neighborhoods and within walking distance of a LOT. Being a slightly less popular area, the traffic (both foot and auto) around the hotel is a little less, making for a quieter, more enjoyable neighborhood. The hotel itself was quaint, simple, and had the basics covered. There... More

Thanks, PJ J! I'm glad we are among your list of faves for "awesome accomodation" here in lovely San Francisco. We are definitely lucky to have this unique location, and the proximity to great sushi and shopping at Japantown, plus of course the boutiques and restaurants on Fillmore Street. I'm sure you've learned already that in SF it's all about... More

With it's Anime wallpaper and light airy rooms, Hotel Tomo is a nice change from the typical hotel chain. With it's recent acquisition by Kimpton I am sure the best is yet to come. The Japantown location is great. Japantown has shops and many restaurants. A few blocks up on Filmore are many non-Asian places to choose from for shopping... More

Thanks so much, stpauliewoman! I see you are a Kimpton Woman through and through :). We are pretty thrilled with this new location, and the large & sunny rooms as you mention. Things are off to a great start, and the renovation will bring some neat Kimpton design elements while keeping the individuality that draws people to this truly "boutique"... More

This place has become our first choice when staying in San Francisco. There was a flat screen TV, refrigerator and coffee machine in our room with two queen beds and plenty of pillows and table with chairs. We did some more exploring on this stay and found that there are many different choices for restaurants and bars within about 5-7... More

Thanks so much, FrequentD! I'm glad you had such a nice time, and enjoyed the bounty of restaurants around here even if Asian cuisine isn't your thing. It's a fun and eclectic neighborhood, and I'm definitely enjoying it so far. Very safe and quite. Glad your room was quiet for those zzz's as well. More

I was in San Francisco for the Salesforce/Dreamforce convention and this hotel is not close to the Moscone Center, but it is in Japan Town which is a very nice location. I didn't rent a car and it is a good walk to get anywhere which helped me get my exercise in because the hills between where Hotel Tomo is... More

Hi, RJS99, Aren't those window nooks the best? A bay window experience in the City By the Bay. I'm glad you enjoyed the uniqueness of the hotel and the neighborhood, out of the fray of the convention center area. The Fox channel issue did cause quite a ruckus here with the Giants in the World Series and all, so we... More

I expected more from a Kimpton Hotel. Lobby was stark, rooms so so, but nice enough, clean and comfortable. Service was pretty weak, 3 star, no more. If you want to be in Japan Town, ideal location. Not exactly central to the rest of the city though.

Hi, BruceMogels, It is true that we lack bellmen at the hotel, though I hope the charms of the front desk team and the sweet housekeeping staff shined through? I hope that the low-key and playful vibe of the property will appeal to those looking for a neighborhood experience in the city. Definitely a "locals" area, and a 25-minute walk... More

Hotel Tomo is reasonably priced and in the heart of Japan Town, conveniently located at the corner of Sutter and Buchanan. The interior decor is anime themed which is beautifully designed. While some reviewers seem for some reason to be put off by it, my advice is to not be a stick in the mud grouch and relax & enjoy.... More

Thanks so much, bsmith45. I just love the expression "stick in the mud" and your rave review certainly brought a smile to my face. I have already shared your kind words with the team, particularly the friends folks at the front desk. Appreciate your time! More

Why Yes - Nice views overlooking Japantown from certain rooms - Location if you want to stay in this part of town Why No - No sign that this is a Kimpton Hotel. Acquisition is new, but none of the signature Kimpton touches have been adopted yet (No mini bars in room, no coffee out in morning, etc...) - Rooms... More

Hi, Jonathan Q, I definitely understand the pain of those huge rates across the city for the annual Dreamforce convention. Things have calmed down now so I hope that you may consider returning. We are also planning a renovation and, in the meantime, we have rolled out Kimpton's "Raid the Minibar," "Forgot It? We've Got It!" (toiletry program), free wifi... More
