But as other reviewers mention it is not up to standard expected from a Kimpton. In fact, couldn't really find any aspect to my room that had been upgraded from when it was a Best Western except: 1) a yoga mat in the closet, and 2) a 'hotel logo' umbrella in the closet (which actually turned out to be quite... My family and I had high hopes for our first experience with Kimpton Hotels. Sadly, we were very disappointed with Hotel Tomo. The staff was the only bright spot in our experience. The hotel was an old run down facility with less than acceptable cleanliness.

I have to admit, as a frequent traveler to San Francisco I was thrilled to be getting out of the Union Square area and intrigued by Japantown and Pacific Heights. The hotel is a Kimpton hotel so it had the usual glass of wine waiting for me upon my arrival which is always nice and the hotel did offer free... More

I was so happy with the accommodations. It was perfectly located to everything I needed and although there on business, it felt like a mini-vacation. The General Manager, Emily, was very helpful and kind. I feel the staff went out of their way to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. My room was very cozy, clean, modern and welcoming.... More

I know kimpton has just taken over and has some grand plans. The hotel has a sort of Japanese quirky theme. And it's pretty cool. As with all kimpton hotels they do the drinks in the lobby of an evening and in this case it also includes sake. The staff are very friendly and the rooms offer more than what... More

Hi, Aussie_trekker, It's always fun to read that a "Top Contributor" with TripAdvisor is happy. Thanks for being a part of our Kimpton Karma Rewards program as well. We are already having fun with the wine hour, yoga mats, free WiFi, bike rentals, and all those Kimpton goodies you mentioned, and stay tuned for more good things coming your way... More

Located in lovely Japantown, this hotel is well situated in a quiet neighbourhood! Stunning views from the 8th floor of SF. Walking distance to lots of fantastic bars, restaurants and shopping. Room was quite spacious and clean considering we were in the city - cute Japanese anime decor. Bed was okay, sheets were better, carpet a bit outdated and gym... More

Hi, Oh D, and thanks for coming to check out the hotel we're wedding into the Kimpton family! It is pretty exciting, and the views and neighborhood are breathtaking as you mention. We'll give kudos to the front desk team for their friendliness, too. Thanks for your review, and hope to see you again in the new year! More

Decided to try out this hotel when I was in San Francisco visiting a family member at CPMC. The price was even lower than the hotels that offer hospital discounts and is closer. It was about a 10 min. walk. But, up a pretty steep hill. It's a cute hotel with a Japanese Anime theme. I booked a room with... More

Thanks, Kimmyineka. I worked in Union Square and at the Wharf for years myself, so it is also a fun change for me to get out into a true San Francisco neighborhood -- while still being near attractions, and of course Japantown and those tempting Fillmore Street shops... and restaurants... and bakeries/frozen yogurt!! Thanks so much for being an Inner... More

I was excited to try out Kimpton’s newest SF hotel in Japantown. It appears to be an old hotel which has been turned in to a Kimpton, i.e. the carpet, wall hangings, etc. aren’t new to Kimtpon (or they have been worn down VERY quickly). The crowd is mostly tourists and the location is on a quiet street in Japantown.... More

Hi, Zuttoman! I see you are a well-traveled student of our Kimpton brand :). Thanks for all your loyalty! The renovation next year will bring some more elegant and luxurious stylings, as well as the minibars so you can Raid the Bar in traditional Kimpton style. Thanks for visiting - I'm glad you agree that this is a pretty darn... More

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Tomo over Thanksgiving and had a wonderful experience. The Hotel is lovely and clean...the room was a great size with 2 queen beds, desk, table/chair, fridge, new TV, free wifi and balcony. They have bikes for the guests and even umbrellas and yoga mats (can get yoga on the tv). It was... More

Hi, zralos, Thanks for your five-star review! I have just shared the praise with our housekeeping team as well. Regarding the front desk, we do lock the doors during the "witching hours" overnight, and we maintain a security partner for additional support. I hope this helps to set your mind at ease. We're thrilled that the hotel was so convenient... More

I was about to rate this hotel a solid 4 because of so many wonderful amenities. The lobby is super cute, probably one of my favorite parts of the hotel. I stayed on the 2nd floor and the Mum's restaurant was on the same level, so it was super convenient. Mum's is awesome by the way. I highly recommend the... More

Hello, Skylar T, and thanks so much for your love of Kimpton! I don't recall if you received my voicemail, and I apologize if we did not get to connect in person during your stay. I was pretty embarrassed that those painters were sanding the wall next door! Lesson learned as we had thought painting was a very quiet sort... More
