I expected more from a Kimpton Hotel. Lobby was stark, rooms so so, but nice enough, clean and comfortable. Service was pretty weak, 3 star, no more. If you want to be in Japan Town, ideal location. Not exactly central to the rest of the city though.

Hotel Tomo is reasonably priced and in the heart of Japan Town, conveniently located at the corner of Sutter and Buchanan. The interior decor is anime themed which is beautifully designed. While some reviewers seem for some reason to be put off by it, my advice is to not be a stick in the mud grouch and relax & enjoy.... More

Why Yes - Nice views overlooking Japantown from certain rooms - Location if you want to stay in this part of town Why No - No sign that this is a Kimpton Hotel. Acquisition is new, but none of the signature Kimpton touches have been adopted yet (No mini bars in room, no coffee out in morning, etc...) - Rooms... More

Hi, Jonathan Q, I definitely understand the pain of those huge rates across the city for the annual Dreamforce convention. Things have calmed down now so I hope that you may consider returning. We are also planning a renovation and, in the meantime, we have rolled out Kimpton's "Raid the Minibar," "Forgot It? We've Got It!" (toiletry program), free wifi... More

We stayed in the Tomo Hotel while visiting family in San Francisco. We found it to be a small, and yet very efficient hotel. Our room was clean and a bit stark but perfectly adequate for our needs. The best part was the location. It is right on the border of Japan Town and an easy walk to Fillmore Street... More

Thanks so much, polly m. We do feel pretty darn lucky to have this location adjacent to the heart of Japantown and the Fillmore Street shops/restaurants, etc. After work, I love that I can live the "local life" by strolling up to Elite Cafe for a biscuit and sazerac fix, or across the way to one of any number of... We stayed here in Oct 2015 for pleasure. We paid $231/night as there were a lot of conferences going on in town and the prices were high for all hotels. This hotel was not worth the $ 231 we paid. I would say $100 - 150 would be the range this hotel should be in. The rooms are basic and... More

Hi, Rocketchu, I can see that we didn't clarify some of the perks of staying at a Kimpton Hotel, though I am glad you got to appreciate this prime location and the convenience of the free wifi at least. Please feel free to drop me a line if you're headed back this way! More

I had booked the day Tomo changed from a JDV property to a Kimpton property and my reservation was lost. Tomo is my #2 when I make the 6 hr drive down to the city (Kabuki is my go to), I have always paid cash and please note that they now only accept credit. When I arrived after my all... More

Hi, Michael A, Thanks so much for taking the time to praise Gerardo (and Rey) for the heartfelt service and care they showed in that difficult situation. I hope that you will still consider frequenting us (perhaps as your #1 hotel :)) in spite of the fact that we do now have the strict credit guarantee policy. And though a... More

We stayed here overnight and booked the room on Hotwire. The hotel is basic and not close to downtown. We felt it was overpriced specially compared to what we payed for a room for a 5 star hotel in Union Square the following week. Shop around as I think you'll find better value.

Hello, macgregoryguy, I am pleased to announce that crazy fall double-header of the Oracle and Dreamforce conventions has passed, and rates in the city should be a bit more stable from here on out. I hope that you'll give us another shot, especially if you want to be walking distance to the square but not elbow-to-elbow with others in name... More

I stayed at this hotel for a big conference in San Francisco. Because of the conference I got a great rate (around $200 for a double room), but had to book an additional day, which cost more than twice the special price. The hotel is nice, "boutique" style and trendy but not that special for that rate (no gym, no... More

Hi, AlberVisitingPlaces, I know just what you mean: Oracle convention week brings the highest rates of the year to San Francisco. And often those who don't book in advance end up staying in the East Bay or by the airport when the city sells out! Please do check us out another time when things are calmer, and prices more in... We spent 5 nights in this wonderful hotel in San Francisco (little Tokyo area). The rooms are large and clean, the hotel staff is always friendly. I really recommend this hotel of you're looking for a trip in San Francisco.

This is not exactly a boutique hotel - but then again, you can get rooms here for not exactly boutique prices. But it has a nice Japanese concept, and is clean and well-organised. The actual building is not very new, nor is it in a very interesting specific location (no views, and no immediate street life), but the rooms are... More

Hi, jmanooch, and thanks for visiting us! I think we need to do more to give visitors the "lay of the land" as they arrive since our location is the best of both worlds: steps from the Fillmore Street boutiques, cafés, and bars of Pacific Heights or the exotic cultural immersion of Japantown, and easily connected to Union Square without...
