Having just recently stayed in the Carriage Inn, I feel like firstly I need to comment on some of the reviews that seem to imply that the SoMA (South of Market) area the hotel is located in is in some way unsafe - if you have ever stayed in a large, cosmopolitan city then these implications are totally overblown. There... More

This is a tale about booking a hotel online at a "deal price" only to find out the about the outrageous daily deposit for "incidentals". Yep. I feel like a sucker. I booked this hotel on Priceline/"Name Your Price" at $109 per night -- good deal for SanFran, right? Not the most amazing spot for a hotel but a good... More

The location is terrible!!! Dont beleive is close to Union Sq because it is not! Scary location to walk at night. The when we got to the bed room the AC doesn't work, It sounds like a airplane engine. The breakfast is not from the hotel. The hotel gives you tickets of 6$ to go in front to a dinner... More

So they say it's a non-smoking hotel, and yet 100% of the people in there were either eastern europeans or middle eastern from what we saw. Guess which part of the world REALLY likes to smoke? We woke up in our very quiet, and overly wallpapered room totally stuffed up because there was smoke coming from somewhere. The management was... More

I came here on a business trip. When I got out of the taxi the first thing I noticed was graffiti on the buildings not too far away. The people around the area where pretty questionable. We were attending a conference at the Moscone Center, and if you want to walk there, you have to go through some pretty bad... More

Spent a week in SF after a 2 week coach tour & a week in Hawaii. This hotel gave us what we were looking for - a smaller, affordable base to explore the SF region. It was quirky enough to be interesting but not so as it detracted from comfort or service. The staff were very friendly & helpful and... More

Each room is different as it is cutomized for the famous (?) person it is named for. VERY clean bathroom with great sample sized shampoo,..... Comfortable bed and pillows. Roomy and user friendly rooms except the coffee/tea set up is in the bathroom which is very unsanitary! The hotel has a deal with the Best Western across the street where... More

I'm the travel coordinator for my company and I handle extensive travel all over the world. Mina (British) on reception was fantastic. Really helpful information about what to do for the 2 days we were there. She saved us lots of money and time! Breakfast across the road was fab and good value if you want a cooked meal. Great central location Only improvement would be the wifi was a bit slow

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
