The staff are very pleasant and it is very cheap for this part of town. However, our room had some quite bad staining on the bed base and carpet. There was a problem with the window blind which had obviously had many failed attempts to rectify the issue judging by all of the staples. This meant we had to leave... More

We stayed here for four days before renting a car and driving down the PCH. This English-style hotel is comfortable and clean even though the carpet and decor is dated. We stayed right before Christmas so the decorations were up and it was very pretty. Our room was tiny, but the bed was comfortable. There is no A/C: OK for... More

We had a room next to the elevator. All night long the elevator was going up and down. The bar is open till 2, there was no soundproofing. It was so loud it sounded like a party was going on in our room so between the 2 we did not sleep. Other than the noise it was great but with... More

Excellent location right near Union square. Small room but was fine for a few nights and limited time spent in room. Resturant was ok for a convienient meal if needed. For the a budget hotel it is simple and what you would expect. Breakfast was a good addition although very carb orientated which was fine for us.

We were a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but needn't have worried. Yes the rooms might be a little dated but the room was large and the housekeeping was spot on, VERY clean, beds/ towels changed daily...I e-mailed the hotel to ask if they could give us a room in a quiet part of the hotel as... Budget priced hotel as was expected, staff were great, helpful and courteous, room was clean and OK! The meals were enormous typical american fry ups and were very good, on the last night my wife and I shared one dinner and we still could not eat it all. The bar was great-we imagined it as being there for a couple... More

you go to San Francisco to get a taste of the charm of a city constructed pre-automobile, and that's what this hotel has to offer. It's no glass tower with modern amenities, but it's centrally located, clean, rooms spacious for a hotel built in the 19th century, and service is just fine, i.e. valet parking for $30 overnight while St.... On balance this hotel is a great value. Ok, so it's older, etc. but for the price who's complaining. It's clean, the staff courteous, has a homey feel, and, if you ask for a room not on the street, it's quiet. Just a few blocks from Union Square for the shopaholics.

The hotel was clean. We stayed in the room next to the business center so we thought it would be loud, but it wasn't. The room was small which is pretty typical of older hotels in cities. There was not a view as we were on the bottom floor facing the court yard. That wasn't a problem I was only... More

For those looking to spend less money for a hotel in downtown San Francisco, this place is great. Remember folks, if you want the Fairmount Hotel then be willing to pay more! Don't complain when YOU skimp on the rate and then expect a five-star hotel. It just doesn't happen that way. The hotel opened in 1913. That means it's... More
