It's an old fashioned hotel which offers good value. The location's good - Union Square a couple of blocks away and some good Thai restaurants opposite. Superb pancake cafe nearby which was a relief as the breakfasts were inadequate - muffins and pastries dumped in a box and nowhere to sit - not even any orange juice. The rooms were... More

What was previously a grand old building is now an old hotel in a rundown area of San Francisco. It's well maintained, with clean rooms. Staff are friendly. But the experience is shabby, not sophisticated. First, the wi-fi doesn't work in the rooms. After wasting an hour trying to connect from my room, the front desk finally told me "It's... More

My friend and I spent 4 nights here. The staff at the front desk were clueless as to how to charge us for the room. They tried to over charge us by almost $300.00 and we had to explain to them how to fix the problem. Be careful especially if you don't speak English well enough to debate on incorrect... More

One of my prerequisites for booking overnight accomodation these day is free wifi. 'Wifi is available in the hotel rooms' says my booking form, but this isn't the case. Yes there is a user name and a password helpfully supplied but when it doesn't work and you ask at reception they admit it is 'temperamental' which actually translates as meaning... More

We stayed here as a group of four 21/22 year old girls from Australia for five days in July 2014. The room was perfect for our needs - olden decor, but clean and perfect size for our group. We had two well sized beds, enough room for all four suitcases (just), additional storage (side table, wardrobe and closet, although we... More

It was obvious that the management of the hotel is working hard to keep the guests happy. There is a complementary breakfast with coffee, bakery products and fresh fruit, there is a mini-bar with very reasonably priced drinks and snacks, and there is a wine-and-cheese hour from 4:30pm to about 6:00pm. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The worst... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. The staff was helpful and very friendly, and rooms were clean. The fixtures in the room were more dated, but not a big deal. Our room was spacious and had a kitchenette, complete with plates and silverware- very helpful for little meals in the room. The hotel is a couple... More

We stayed in a standard room with 2 queen beds for 3 people. The furnishing were right out of 1978-1982! It had a kitchenette, sitting area and large bathroom with 2 sinks, bidet, large jetted tub. The fixtures are older but in good condition. Soap, shampoo and conditioner provided, not lotion. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel had old charm.... More

I stayed at this modest hotel in San Francisco early June 2014. Again, it's clean, nice complimentary continental breakfast, but is a bit dated when it comes to decor and technology (TV). Our room was facing 3 adjoining walls to the hotel. Windows had no screens so you could not leave them open fully in fear of a visit from... More

The hotel is conveniently located near the downtown area (though a few blocks from the Tenderloin so know your streets) and in a great place to lots of good food and public transportation. The rooms have older furniture, but they are very clean and if all you plan to do is sleep there, it's a great place. The staff is... More
