There is so much to say about the hotel im going to do it in point form ● the photos on the web site must have been taken at a different location because the hotel DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THIS ● There are aggressive homeless people that are on both streets of the hotel that abuse people as they walk... The location is great. The bedrooms are a bit tired and dated but you probably won't be spending much time in your room because there's so much to do in the city. There's free coffee in the lobby. Mel's Diner, which is nearby does great food. The room rates are very reasonable for San Francisco so if you're on a... More

I was hesitant because of some of the negative reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was clean and the staff was friendly enough. It was admittedly loud (our room faced Polk St) but bring some earplugs and you should be fine. It's walking distance to Union Square and Polk Street has a bunch of bars if you're into... More

This is a very nice hotel with narrow stairs and a small elevator, has 6 floors with very nice rooms. WiFi is very slow, sometimes lots of patience is necessary. It has a bus stop (line No 38) in front of the building goes straight to the ocean! To go downtown you have to go around the next block and... More

We stayed at Monarch Hotel and were disappointed. This 1927 hotel could be beautiful with its high plaster ceilings and moldings, but has been allowed to run down. The bed was comfortable and water pressure was great. The room was clean but the furnishings are faded and out of style. It is close to public transportation. The staff was helpful. On... More

Where do I begin? This place was beyond terrible. The neighborhood was run down. There were a LOT of shady/dodgy people surrounding the entrance of the hotel. I booked it thinking it was close to Union Square and I had only 1 night to spend there. It was not cheap at US$200 a night. The first thing you noticed when... More

Stayed here while road tripping around the country on a budget. The service left much to be desired. It was hard enough to even get acknowledged, and when I did all the clerk said was "credit card". Was double charged for parking. They do not have their own lot, but suggest you park in the car repair place next door.... More

After putting souvenirs in a tied plastic bag, I found them taken from my room. Talked to front desk and after hours later she told me housekeeping thought it was trash. Horrible. Money down the drain. Had to check out the day later and was told I'd get a call to see if they could do anything else. Of course... More

Feb 13 - Stayed one night only, i booked not expecting too much and i was ok. Bed, cleaning, bathroom, everything ok, don´t expect too much, it´s old but conserved. It was on Feb, cold but the room was warm. SF don´t have much options for nice and not expensive hotels. Parking is too expensive, so go with insurance car... More

Dreadful experience. They LOVE money. Before any niceties of greetings are exchanged, the phrase, 'where is your credit card' comes out of the receptionist's mouth first. The bedroom is OK but you have to be prepared to be constantly woken up by the noise outside and the sex screams in the nearby bedroom. As for the Bathroom, its a joke.... More
