Located in the heart of Union Square, Herbert is on Powell Street which is the hub of all the public transits. You can walk out the front door and hop on a cable car which will take you to Chinatown, Lombard Street, and Fishermans Wharf. A block and a half down the street takes you to the Muni and Bart... We recently stayed in The Herbert Hotel on the first leg of our West Coast drive and had a lovely stay. Our room was on the 6th floor (i had emailed ahead requesting a quiet room as advised by other reviewers) and i have to say, i did not once wake up through noise. the room was very clean and... I saw 2 rooms in this hotel. Both were the ones without washroom facilities. Each had different amenities. One had a coffee maker & fridge, the other had a chest of drawers and table and chair. When I moved to the 2nd room, without the coffee maker, I asked to have one in the room, & although it took some... More

Very small rooms and musty smell. One night and it was OK. Come with a small fridge and 1 shared bathroom and shower on the 5th floor. Common TV room and lounge on second floor.Nice to have key to get in and felt safe with locked lobby. There is quite a bit on people on the street all nightlong. Right... More

Management response:

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that your room has a musty smell. We do not have this complaint usually and make efforts to not only make sure that every room is freshened daily but also have made our rooms with materials which do not absorb smells (wooden floors ect.). There are also many different room types so... More

Great location, Clean, convenient and economical. Within a block from Bart. Transit to and from the airport was painless. I will stay there on my next visit to the City. Great restaurants and shopping close by.

Poor service at reception. Room (size, decor, amenities) certainly NOT as advertised. Should be classified as a motel. No WiFi service beyond 2nd floor.

I am so sorry that you did not have a good stay with us. Service is definitely something one of our top priorities. All of our rooms have been newly renovated and although we do keep our rooms simple we make sure that we have a good quality and fresh and clean environment for our guests. All of the pictures... Room 717 was clean, tidy, and comfortable. For $100 per night (plus tax) for a queen-sized bed and private bathroom, this was fantastic value. The location is excellent - close to Union Square and Market St (and easy walking distance or near public transport for anywhere else). The bed was comfortable, the room had a coffee maker, and the woman... More

I love this hotel! The location is unbeatable, the rooms are adorable, and the price is very reasonable. Considering how inexpensive the hotel is, I initially thought the place would be a dump, but each room comes equipped with wifi, flat-screen tv, fridge, coffee maker, chic writing desk, books and colorful vases that match the bedspreads/the exposed brick wall. It's... More

S.F. was our first stop on our road-trip from San Francisco to San Diego. We were visiting SF for three days so I was looking for a hotel which was conveniently located, and reasonably priced, and the Herbert Hotel fitted the bill. Other pluses I found during my stay were cleanliness and friendly staff. Our accomodation was on the Powell... More

The Room and the hotel is perfectly located. Clean and bright, it has been splendid. The people... Everything, except internet difficult on the top floors but that's nothing. It is definitely a Good Value. Cole & Jeremie
