Spent 5 nights at the Fairmont on Nob Hill and believe it or not I like this better (except for the bed). The location is perfect for exploring Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, and Haight Ashbury. Cannot believe the value. They serve a huge full breakfast, afternoon tea with snacks and fruit and then they do wine and cheese in... More

Well cared for older hotel. Very helpful staff with good info on restaurants, parking and things to do. The location couldn't have been better as it is across the street from Golden Gate Park. We rented bikes at the shop next to the hotel and pedaled around the park. The hotel is located in a nice walking area of town... More

We stayed 6 nights in the cupola deluxe queen (top floor overlooking the park). Very spacious, clean and comfortable room. Good shower. Lots of windows. The breakfasts were fine (yogurt, waffles, hard boiled eggs, scones, muffins, fruit and the normal beverages), tho nothing special. We werent there for afternoon tea or evening managers wine and cheese. a bit of noise... More

10 - 13 Feb 2015 I booked this hotel because I wanted a suite for 5/6 in a decent, clean hotel and I'm not a millionaire & I'm happy to say I got this one right! I read the trip advisor reviews and they seemed positive, without necessarily being OTT (particularly about its location), so it was with some reservation... More

The Stanyan appears to be a old apartment building converted to a boutique hotel. The hotel shows it's age, but is clean and decorated/furnished well. I was greeted by two very helpful front desk employees who were very informative and helpful. The hotel offers a breakfast, afternoon tea and wine/cheese social daily included in the price. We were not able... More

I start this review with a caveat. San Francisco hotels often come in three varieties: large, upscale hotels; generic chains, and boutique hotels. Boutique hotels are generally smaller, older hotels which are generally well located, often less expensive than the upscale hotels and can provide a SF charm that other hotels lack. At the same time, you won't find the... More

This hotel has a perfect location on the eastern edge of Golden Gate Park. It's in a beautiful part of the city and the park offers a breather from the intense urban atmosphere of an over-crowded and choking San Francisco. The hotel is a conglomeration of row houses linked together by funky stairwells. We had an enormous suite that was... More

We stayed at the Stanyan Park Hotel in San Francisco because of it's location and the fact that there were no other decent options in the immediate vicinity. It's website suggested a historic building but was somewhat less than forthcoming with some of the more pertinent details. While the staff was reasonably congenial, the rooms were a bit depressing. This is a quaint little hotel in a great part of the city. It's clean, the rooms are a reasonable size, and the pricing, while not cheap, is also not outrageous. That said, I don't believe that I would stay here again as the old-fashioned and dowdy vibe of the place just isn't my cup of tea. . When we... More

Just finished a five night stay in San Francisco splitting our time between a standard room at Stanyan Park hotel (2 nights) and the larger suites (3 nights). Both were very comfortable - with the suite being larger than most San Fran 2-bedrooms, and excellent for our family (2 adults and 1 child) and would have even worked for a... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
