Very helpful staff. Convenient transportation. The room is clean. Price is fair. The only reason I didn't give "excellent" is that the hotel is located in a bad area. When you go back to your hotel, you have to go through some terrible blocks. A lot of black people hang out on the street. They are freaks.

Good hotel/hostel for people with low cash or low expectations. It's very close to Civic Center and everything, but 6th St. is rather sketchy so avoid walking at night by yourself. Other than that, it's a clean hotel, the rooms are small and quiet and the shared bathrooms are nice. One great thing is that they offer free breakfast with... More

Came here with a friend during pride and all hotels where expensive. This one has shared bathrooms and unlike other comments they where very clean and nearly never we had to wait - altough only a few bathrooms available for many guests. The rooms will be not cleaned during your stay but you can ask for a new toilet. There... More

This is a good hotel/hostel. Extremely affordable, friendly staff and functional facilities. The neighbourhood isn't nearly as bad as the other reviews would have you believe. There are some homeless people nearby, but there are lots of homeless people in the rest of SF too! They keep to themselves, and won't bother you if you don't bother them.

I stayed a month here in october 2014.The place is very near to market street and downtown.Service was good also got help from reception.Only issue is the 6th street area which is full of drug addict guys so you should avoid that street and take howard street to be safe side.its good budget hotel.

We decided to come to SF at the last minute and this was the only place that I could find that was cheap and the pictures looked some what decent. I read a lot online about this area and how bad it is, yes it's pretty seedy, I saw a guy shooting heroin in front of the hostel when we... More

This place is a hostel and should be advertised as such. The area is very sketchy, lots of drug addicts and homeless people, we made sure that we got back to the hostel before dark. However the receptionist told us that the area is safe and there is a police station near by. The room we had was very small... More

I made a reservation for 2 nights at the Pontiac for 270$. Luckily something went wrong and the reservation didn't come through. So I had to make another reservation right at the desk which was 180$ for one night(!) But looking back I am glad that I only had to stay there for one night. The Room was okay but... More

This hotel is cheap by San Francisco standards and extremely overpriced by all other measures. The place was unclean, the shared bathrooms should be cleaned on a more regular basis, there was dried crap on the second level bathroom door, my partner preferred the third floor and they tended to cleaner (relative term). Our room was right outside the neon... More

Stayed in the Pontiac for 3 nights. Here is a brief overview: Plusses: + Close to downtown and market street shopping + Relatively close to public transport (BART, MUNI, ...) + One of the cheapest options in San Francisco + Breakfast included (if you manage to make it) Minor points: - Breakfast is served from 7:30AM-9AM on weekdays & from... Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
