This place is fine if you are okay with the minimum level of amenities. It's in downtown, and a few blocks from the BART. Shared showers/toilets and the homeless near the property are something that you will need to be comfortable handling. You should probably bring earplugs (the homeless folks are loud) and flip-flops. There are two showers and toilets... More

I think all the reviews of this hotel are pretty accurate. Dodgy area so if you are intimidated by groups of homeless people this isn't for you. The entrance and common areas like staircases are functional and basic. Shared bathroom is a bit of a pain but that's why the place is so cheap. The room was spotless and spacious,the... More

It was not difficult to get there but since the entrance us small and there is no sign board at the door, me missed the entrance. The room is clean and a good thing there is a sink and tap in the room. Bt location wise is superb. It is walking distance to Union Square, bus F to go to... More

The reviews I read before staying at the Winsor prepped me for what to expect. The price indicates what you're going to get. The rooms, hallways, bathrooms, etc., are very clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm. Understand that the toilets and showers are shared and you have to leave your room to use... More

This place is great if you need a cheap room and want a classy, old fashioned, clean place to stay with super great service from the staff (it seems to be mostly family operated). My room felt like it was pulled from a Raymond Chandler novel. 6th Street is pretty darned shady, even though Winsor is a literal stone's throw... More

The area outside the hotel is a bit scary at night with lots of questionable looking people. I had no problems with my one night stay. The hotel is old, but clean and seemingly well maintained. I didn't have a toilet or shower in the room, but the shared accommodations were just fine, albeit a bit cramped. My room on... More

Nice hotel that is well managed. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and the wifi works decent. The neighborhood sucks but walk one block away and it is okay. A good value for the month in San Francisco. Will stay again.

Before booking this, I knew that this place would have a shared bath (as it clearly states on all hotel booking sites), and that the area wouldn't be that great. In truth, the area is OK if you mind your own business and walk like you would in any other bad neighborhood (walk quickly and look straight ahead). As far... More

First of all let me start by saying this is really a hostel, not a hotel. In saying that, this place is a perfectly fine hostel. Staff are very helpful, rooms are clean and the location is very close to the city centre/union square. It's on the edge of the Tenderloin so there is a homeless problem on nearby streets... More

The only good thing about this place is that is good located in the city, it wasn't dirty either. But the wifi barely worked during our stay, we had to share the shower and the toilet and the bed we had for two was just for one person. The room was tiny and you could hear the noises from outside.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
