My wife and I decided to stay at a different hotel this New Year's Eve and Hotel Vitale was highly rated, but a bit of splurge for us. We decided to do it, thinking it would be quite a step up from the Hyatt Regency, where we normally stay for New Year's Eve. The staff was wonderful and the hotel... More

Dear mpdharley: Well, first of all, thank you for giving us the opportunity to win you over on New Year’s Eve. I am pleased that you enjoyed our atmosphere and the team was accommodating, and the room service enjoyable. Our room service is provided by our restaurant, which is fantastic because you can receive high-quality restaurant food delivered straight to... More

I booked a room for the New Years Eve last minute and was very delighted about the Bay view option to see the fireworks. 2 hours later I received a call telling me that they made a mistake and only have a city view room available. Unfortunately the room rate would also be 75% higher, since its a special occasion,... More

Dear Peter F: I am disappointed to hear that we were not able to honor your reservation as booked on New Year’s Eve. Please contact me directly at 415.278.3710 to discuss; I would welcome the opportunity to make it up to you so that we are able to keep you as a loyal local guest. Sincerely, Antoine Berberi More

We stayed at the Hotel Vitale on the long Christmas weekend for the first time and were very pleased with our experience. The location is terrific since it is convenient to the BART and allowed us easy access to visit our daughter in Oakland without traffic delays or expensive taxi rides. The hotel is also very near the Embarcadero and... More

We decided to relocate to the Vitale having spent 3 nights in a more central hotel (which was actually less than 10 minutes away in a cab). I glad we moved as the Embarcadero is quieter but still close to downtown shops etc. Our top floor room had a great view of the Bay Bridge and would recommend spending the... More

I'm an SF local, and the Hotel Vitale is our favorite for an urban weekend staycation. I've also been there for company conferences and it's a very solid business hotel due to its central and easy location right off the Embarcadero (easy access to BART and MUNI as well as taxis, or a nice long walk or run). The hotel... More

We booked the hotel via Booking.com and prepaid for the stay. Upon check-out, we noticed an additional & undisclosed charge of $30 per night for the 'free wifi, gym, biz room, etc.', the very services their competitors either disclose in advance or, more often, provide as standard complementary services. When I returned and asked Denise at the front desk about... More

Dear OnTheGo307: I apologize that our front desk was not more accommodating in explaining all of the benefits associated with the charge, we will work with our team members on a refresh of all the advantages that the Urban Retreat Fee has to offer. While it could always be clearer, Booking.com does state that the advertised room prices do not... More

Nice Touches: when you stay on business you expect a certain standard of hotel with all the food, comfort, WiFi, location needs ticked. Vitale does this, but had some nice touches - a selection of CDs in the room (including Christmas songs!), lovely toiletries in the bathroom, and the room service food was better than expected. Concierge was great and... More

Bar is very crowded in the evening. In the morning sit by the window if you want to read. I would stay here again because of the proximity to the farmer's market at the Ferry Building, which outside of Paris is one of the best that I have ever visited.

It's been 3 years since we stayed. We reserved a superior water view. The room was on the second floor directly over the clear plastic tent that covers the restaurant patio in winter. The tent effectively blocked any view. In addition, we were so close to the patio I could identify the food items on the plates of those dining... More

This hotel is on Mission down near the Ferry Wharf, home of farmer's markets. It is almost on the Embarcadero Bart station, which is handy, and right across from one of the best restaurants in the world - the Boulevard ($$$$$$$ See my other review) It was right across the street from the office I was visiting, and my wife... Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
