We rented 2 rooms for 2 nights here recently and were quite pleased. It's not a four-star hotel but it does have character and is more than adequate. I loved the old elevators. I felt like I was in a European hotel especially at breakfast. It was easy to get around from here. You are very close to the dodgier... More

Built in 1929 and still very much in it's original condition, the Mayflower seems only to get better with age. I first stayed there -- and reviewed it -- several years ago, and decided to drop back in on a recent trip to SF to see how the old gal's getting along. As before, my stay was delightful. OK, I... Visited this hotel for the second time, this time only together with my son. If you can fit your car into their parking lot, this is a great plus. In addition, everything is of the same level and of course when their friendly staff already knows you, it becomes even better. Highly recommended!

This little hotel was our home away from home for three nights, and we found it to be clean and comfortable. We stayed in a suite, which was a one bedroom with separate living area and small kitchen and bathroom with bath. We had a toddler and it was perfect for us. The kitchen and bathroom were all kids friendly... More

"It is what it is" This is the motto posted behind the reception desk, and it sort of establishes the bar. And it was: comfortable, a little shabby but clean. The breakfast was OK, the bed comfortable, the cranky old elevator definitely a plus, in my opinion, being a little old and cranky myself. We were a little disappointed to... More

Stayed for five nights in March, and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. The desk staff were helpful when asked 'touristy' questions. Be aware that the 'hairdryers' in the rooms, as listed under the amenities, consists of an ancient, powerless hairdryer that is brought to your room, on request.

We stayed one night after arriving in San Francisco late. We had read the earlier reviews and knew the Mayflower was a grand old lady, The elevators with the metal gates hearkened to a bygone era. The room was large enough and the bed comfortable. The lobby is beautiful and the staff attentive. Great location in Nob Hill and close... More

The Hotel Mayflower is fast becoming my favourite hotel in SF. It's a European style boutique hotel, with large rooms, generous continental breakfast and a great style and decor. And, the staff is super friendly which I love. It's definitely a budget conscious hotel, so don't expect "fancy" but do expect great value, great location, very clean and lots of... More

Europe's great cities have their grand hotels -- but are also dotted with well-run little guys, and that defines the Mayflower. Built in 1929, it's been upgraded just enough: flat-screen TVs, microwaves and fridges, plus fresh paint and carpeting throughout. But traditional touches (notably a pair of elevators with metal gates right out of a Bogart movie) provide charm, and... More

Making a SF vacation affordable is a challenge and the Mayflower really helped us out. Great rate comfortable and clean rooms and a Dash Hammett feel to boot! A delicious continental breakfast is included as is parking (for small cars---don't attempt to shoehorn anything larger than a Jetta in the hotel parking lot and survive unscathed) These sorts of extras...
