Like most club residences this one has the same pluses & the same minuses. Great location, reasonable/moderate prices (reciprocal club members do not get same advantageous pricing as de jure members), good basic fare food & drink & most impressively a friendly, welcoming staff. Then there are the bedrooms with limited electrical outlets, poor reading light, cumbersome furniture that could have... More

We had a nice stay at University club. Though the club can be improved a lot in terms interior and decorations. Its a bit old fashioned or rather a historic type. Located between Union Square and Fisherman Wharfs makes it a bit noisy. Overall pretty nice stay as public transportation is available nearby.

The reviews for this property tend to fall into two categories: "Historic and Charming", and "Worn and tired". The common areas are a little of both, but my room was clean, in good repair, and attractive. The furniture was a bit old, but the bed was quite comfortable, the linens and towels were all fine, and it was please. I... More

Excellent location between Union Square and Fishermans Wharf. Hotel is old do not expect trendy new or shinny. Rooms very comfortable and clean. If you get a west facing room cable car tracks run in front of hotel, very noisy. Staff friendly and helpful and I would recommend this hotel if Nob Hill is where you want to stay.

Very good location. Could be a bit noisy, depending on where the windows face to. But for the price - absolutely worth it. Wifi was a bit unstable, the further from the router, the worst was the signal. Continental breakfast included - pretty decent. Suits are big and cozy. Beds are comfortable

We were very disappointed with the Club and felt that we did not receive value for money after our week-long stay We have stayed at similar clubs all over the world and I am afraid the the UCSF fell well below the standards of these other clubs in almost every respect Specifically: Room was not clean - dust on window... I have stayed in a number of clubs around the country. This tired shabby establishment should take a close look at themselves. Their answer to 5 am trash pick-up? "We have earplugs". Do you have a business center? No, rather than feel free to use your laptop at a desk on the 4th floor. No napkins at their continental breakfast.... More

It was a wonderful spot, and the building is a delight to wander around. So much atmosphere. The room I had (bedroom and 'parlour') was terrific BUT the windows didn't lock close and the upper sections hadn't been dusted in years. I was on the ground floor and was a little nervous at night. The wifi worked fine and so... More

We stayed here as members of a reciprocal club, and knew pretty much what to expect: A beautiful old building that has not been refurbished as one would expect with pricier places. We love those sorts of place, as we abhor generic, bland decor and shoe-box hotel rooms with windows that won't open and air conditioning that keeps the temperature... More

UCSF is a delightful club in the nob hill area of SF. With the cable car right out front it's easy to get around. The room was homely and comfortable but the real value is the 4th floor bar and restaurant where we mingled with members and bar staff. This club admits both male and female members. The food is... Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
